request Pony Fantasy 6 (remake) [need spriters, writers, betas, and one more]

I am looking for a few people, the type of which listed in the title, who can help me take the mediocre game with bad writing into a great game deserving of the praise given to the original game.

 

I am of course talking about a fan hack of the game Final Fantasy 6. We have a good deal of reference material to use as far as PC sprites go (though even a few of those could stand to be edited) and a few new sprites,namely Discord (since they weren't actually that good), Cadence, Shining Armor, Sombra, and a bunch of Background ponies (like 20-30 at most and even then with only 2-3 frames of animation)

 

Also some writers so that we all can work out a story that follows the original about as well as movies do books that's based around the characters, which I've been working on for a little bit now (today alone) and eventually dialogue and stuff.

 

I also need a programmer who can rewrite some preexisting battle algorithms and enemy AI.

 

And here's about what I have done of the Characters and how they fit into the world.

 

 

 

Cadence (Replacing Locke)

 

Role: Member of the resistance as a spy, Works under cover as an Ambassador between Canterlot and the Empire. (White Mage)

 

Motivations: Much the same as in the game, death of her first love at the hands of the Empire pushed her out of her home town where she met Celestia. She became an Alicorn to show her promotion to an ambassador.

 

She had met Twilight a small handful of times as a 'foal-sitter' but didn't know of the atrocities or reason that the empire had taken to such a young child, misunderstanding it as the fact that she was the younger sister of one of the head generals.

 

Personality:

 

Relationships:

Twilight: Former Foal-sitter, but actually knows very little about who she is. Didn't find much on the top secret training and enslavement program due to Sombra's interference until shortly before the assault on Neigsh.

 

Shining Armor: Being the one to free him from his dilemma of facing execution, she was the first to see that he wasn't actually evil. A romance forms, but she comes to doubt him at the Magitech facility when Sombra convinces them that he's still working for them. Not much changes in the relationship between the two from the original game.

 

Princess Celestia: As she was the first pony that saw great potential in her as a young Pegasus, Cadence holds the princess in the highest esteem. She looks up to and respects her even more then Twilight.

Shining Armor (Replacing Celes)

 

Role: Unchanged from FF6, though the added layer of not knowing that he's Twilight's big brother adds something. (Support)

 

Motivations and History: Shining Armor trained for all of his life to become Captain of the Royal guard for 2 reasons. He had genuinely thought that the Empire was in the right due to the fact that he didn't know about the atrocities, and he wanted to protect the innocent ponies of Stalliongrad. He, along with 12 other candidates, went to the palace and took the exam to join the armed forces (of which the royal guards are considered).

 

Of all of the other candidates, Shining Armor showed the highest aptitude for leadership. He was about to be assigned as the Captain's understudy, until they found that he was the older brother of the foal that was being trained to be the newest super weapon for the Empire. With those facts in mind, he was put under contract as the newest General on the spot. He made the most of it, using his troops mostly as an additional layer of defense for the empire. His first actual deployment was to Mareanda. As much as he hated it, he had a job to do and ordered that his men raze the city to the ground, but leave the ponies inhabiting it alive. He stayed to supervise the rebuilding of the city. When he was called back to Stalliongrad, Emperor Gilda discussed plans to use poison to destroy the resistance at Sweet Apple Acres during the family reunion for the most devastation to them and allow for ease of conquest.

 

Shining Armor spoke out against this, and was held for treason, to be executed the next day.

 

Personality: He is fairly serious, and often barely fights back against claims that he's a monster. He is also fairly independent, and takes to most of the others much slower than everypony else.

Celestia (Replaces Edgar)

 

Role: Mentor to Twilight, Strategist and Moodlightener for the entire group. (Jack of All Trades)

 

Personality: Generally kind and coy, she hates long bouts of protocol and often prefers to bypass the bureaucracy of running a small nation. She makes jokes with other ponies and often tries to lighten the mood. Responds to actual danger with a serious and take charge attitude.

 

Motivations and History:

Celestia had always been the social of the two royal sisters, she attended all of the social gatherings. It was that that drove the crowds, attention, and friends to her and drove her sister into jealousy. Her sister's transformation into Nightmare Night led to the onset of the Nightmare Wars that caused the downfall of magic.

 

As she was favored by the people, she wasn't hunted down like the rest. She did her best to protect the unicorns that were coming to Canterlot, but there were too many extremists that were hunting them down and not enough people to fight the waves of fanatics. So, as she voluntarily stopped practicing magic so that the fanatics wouldn't run her out of town.

 

With her power almost entirely lost, she had her own, most loyal, police gather up the unicorns and help them escape civilization to make a new place isolated from the rest of the world.

 

When magic faded into obscurity, and only the most revered scholars actually knew anything about the Nightmare Wars, she became the figurehead of mechanical growth as her connection to the spells that she knew faded.

 

She saw the empire on the southern content as an actual ally when it was led by the strong leader Ghestal. However, it was on his daughter, Gilda,'s Coronation day that the empire went downhill. They almost immediately mobilized the troops to reinforce the leadership that they had over the continent.

 

Celestia cut technology packages to the empire, but they had started to reverse engineer it. She still publicly has a good relationship with the empire, though she secretly supports the resistance that popped up.

I like your style.

 

And you have some fairly good work. Now, how well do you think that you can use as a reference/edit existing 16 bit sprites?

and that's really all I can I'll need for the first rom hack, and if you want to come back for the sequal it will involve a lot more original spriting since that's a fan hack of an unoficial sequal that will be a lot more original.

Sometime within the next 3-6 months, maybe longer depending on how long it takes for story writing. Since most of the sprites are already in the hack it's the visuals for a few characters.

 

 

 

Why remake the game?

For one very simple reason. The original FF6 was an amazing game, PF6 on the other hand had a lot of atmosphere and writing problems that show it was written by someone who had absolutely no clue what they were doing.

 

Because of that, I want to think that I could do a better job of writing (though if I did all of the writing it would get really weird really fast) than that, and since there are a few balancing issues in the original, and combat was entirely botched in PF6, that can definitely be improved upon.

 

And finally, I also want to bring a sequel into the world that was written by the best writer I actually know, so that would also go to clear up any plot holes generated by the original game.
