Commander_PonyShep 349 February 1, 2014 Share February 1, 2014 So I watched Pinkie Pride, complete with "Weird Al" Yankovich as Cheese Sandwich and everything. I know that Pinkie Pie is the Element of Laughter, but for some unknown reason, despite what she can do, she depresses me. If there was a reason why, it's most likely because of the show's more serious moments. Twilight's final battle with Nightmare Moon. Discord turning Twilight's friends against her. Twilight unintentionally switching her friends' cutie-marks, only to restore them and rise to power as an alicorn princess as a result. Plus, all those numerous fanfics out there about Twilight becoming immortal while her friends die of old age, right before Meghan McCarthy announced, on Twitter, that Twilight will not outlive her friends, even as an alicorn princess. And, we can't forget about the box that might contain Rainbow Power for the Mane Six. And yet, despite all those serious and depressing moments in the show, Pinkie Pie is always arriving to act as the comedy relief, aside from Spike and, just recently, Weird Al/Cheese Sandwich. She makes me laugh, weirds me out with her antics, and puts a smile on my face. But, once the show gets to the more serious parts, it makes all of Pinkie's antics more bitter-sweet. It almost reminds me of Mass Effect 3 Citadel. The majority of Mass Effect 3 was depressing, filled with Reapers harvesting entire races, while Cerberus sacrifices half of humanity to save the other half by controlling the Reapers. And, three of Shepard's squadmates, Mordin, Thane, and Legion, all die to help Shepard save the galaxy, like Kaidan/Ashley on Virmire back in Mass Effect 1. But then, BioWare comes out with ME3's final DLC, Citadel. Like Pinkie Pie, Citadel was bitter-sweet, in that it celebrated Shepard's squad and changed the game's overall mood from dark to lighthearted for a short period of time, yet ends Commander Shepard's career like the game's awful-yet-thankfully-fixed ending. It was a joyful-yet-tearful goodbye to Shepard and his/her squad, just as Pinkie Pie makes me smile before everything in the show becomes depressing again.
Scootalove 10,689 February 1, 2014 Share February 1, 2014 It's weird because, the episode was shifting from a happy atmosphere to a sad/depressing atmosphere but this isn't surprising because in the show we've seen the transition from happy to depressing in just a matter of seconds. You could say that the pacing was good. 2 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Shine 166 February 2, 2014 Share February 2, 2014 I actually get what you're saying, and I think I know the reason. Pinkie Pie's partying, laughter, and silly antics are her way of making up for her depressing past, so whenever she feels threatened in some way, she gets even sillier to try and mask her depression. Every time she acts crazy, it's like a reminder of where she came from and what she's lived through. ... I want to hug her. You are a ghost, driving a meat-coated skeleton made out of stardust. Acchan 232 February 2, 2014 Share February 2, 2014 Pinkie Pie's Lament literally brought me to tears. I felt for her- her feeling as if she didn't quite belong anymore, someone besting her at what made her happy... Please excuse me while I find a corner to cry in.
hawkflame 3,310 February 2, 2014 Share February 2, 2014 I put together an analysis of Pinkie on Youtube (can be viewed here) where I surmised that she really has a tendency to define herself by how much she makes other ponies happy. So her depression from others stealing her thunder like this, and the perceived rejection by her friends, totally makes sense. That's why she feels the way she does. Without the attention, she feels like she has no purpose in life. 4 Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!
King Sejong 859 February 2, 2014 Share February 2, 2014 Now this I can relate, I have been in Pinkie Pie's place, and I am still there, in a position were I can be very happy, or do something I normally enjoy, only to have melancholia smote me. It's amazing how fast and sudden a mood swing can occur, and Pinkie Pie depicted that very well, the writers did quite a stellar job with that, admittedly I do wish I had more of Pinkie Pie's positivity, I could use some reinforcement for my stress, yet to see that look of sorrow on her face was hard to see, and I love how that was animated, I could feel for Pinkie Pie, since that is what I am going through right now, I also wish I had Pinkie Pie's energy, to try to entertain and lift the depression of others, Pinkie Pie is vastly more complex than fans realize, and I love how this episode captures that, although a silly person may appear happy; inside they are weeping.
Motion Spark 7,807 February 2, 2014 Share February 2, 2014 hmmm this makes me think and now I'm seeing Pinkie Pie with different eyes, and she's resulting to be more complex than I thought. Now, I have many ideas going on and honestly, I'm not very organized when it comes to sorting them, but if you allow me, I want to share what I think of Pinkie's complex character. Pinkie is hyper, jumpy and bubbly, but does not makes her dumb (even tho back in season 3, I think she was very dumbfied :okiedokielokie: ) much on the contrary, I'm amazed by how clever and smart she is even if she doesn't make sense and seems absolutelly crazy and out of her mind. Her medium to fix problems is unconventional, but she still does fix them. Like, for example in 'Pinkie Apple Pie', she had me wondering what was going on in her head, because she was literally insane and crazy in that episode, but in the end she delivered the moral to the Apples. Here, in 'Pinkie Pride' she was able to resolve the conflict without a 'rainbow glow' telling her what was the right thing to do, with the differences of Rainbow Dash and Rarity. She is the element of laughter and she's responsible for bringing joy and light to all the folks of Ponyville, job that she enjoys, but what about Pinkie's internal joy and light? who fulfill them? Well, superficially speaking, everyone that she consider her friend, which is everyone in Ponyville pretty much. But most importantly, her true true friends. Until here everything is normal. But now this what makes me see Pinkie as a more complex, 3-dimensional character. She's very dependant on her friends attention and without them, she's prone to have probably the strongest breakdown from all the ponies (which we've seen in 'Party of One') The lack of attention from her friends, makes her take radical choices instead of thinking about things with a cold head and going overboard with her actions, in fact, I think the line between being normal and insane (in the bad way) is very thin in Pinkie compared to the other ponies. Also, even if she's very talkative and outgoing. She's the kind of pony that bottle things up. In this episode, besides her being prideful, I could notice that she hide her true feelings from her friends which she piles up into a mountain of sad feelings that lead her directly into a severe case of depression. I can see that this is something that many people in the real world can relate like, A LOT, even if it's a painful fact of someone's personality. I actually like that Pinkie, is more than songs, parties and laughs. 1 My OC's: Motion Spark || Beat Spark || Rosebelle Sorry, I don't take REQUESTS! Brotaku 18 February 2, 2014 Share February 2, 2014 Pinkie Pie is my favorite pony and I definately see some parallels with her in my life. I've always used humor to help deflect in tense situations and sometimes I sink into really deep depression. Despite Pinkie Pie being the silliest and cartooniest pony, in many ways she's the most real pony to me. GhostPony750 959 February 3, 2014 Share February 3, 2014 In most of the episodes in season four, she was used only for silly jokes, with no real developpement. But in Pinkie's Pride, she was very very well developped. My aunt actually is a Pinkie Pie. Seriously. She always try to make the others smile, partying, trying to have fun. But we recently learned that she was not well treated by her husband. What a shock, she never ever talked about it! She actually care for the others more than she care for herself, and she didn't want to feel like a victim, because talking about it will only destroy the good mood for the others. She live to see the others happy. And that is why Pinkie Pie is awesome.

copper_coat_poni 8 February 4, 2014 Share February 4, 2014 I can relate to Pinkie, she tries her hardest to make others happy and sets herself aside. Emotions and all. Party of One speaks to me because she loses it after she assumes her friends leave her in the dark. The sulking and making up "friends" afterwards is somewhat similar to how I have reacted to similar situations. Basically, she needs to be around others and make them happy knowing she did that, she made somepony's day. Sidenote: she seems like the type that wishes she had a special somepony. This somepony would give her undivided attention which she would love and has been longing for. And then she kills herself/goes insane the second she even sees her somepony talking to another mare, and he gets belittled nightly for looking at other mares. Oh, and the relationship can work out if you spend every waking and or unconscious second of your life being within arms reach of pinkie, never talk to other mares, and spend your entire existence catering to her grievous emotional needs. Tl;DR ya, she needs a boyfriend, or for her friends to stop fucking ditching her when someone who bests her in her only talent shows up, and then mocks her partys, that is really the only thing she does. Tl;DR Part II:get ridda RD and have the rest not ditch her, and she's fine. http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/vera-yeoman-r5921Muh pleb tier OC .http://mlpforums.com/blog/1663/entry-12477-pony-waifu-wedding-13-maiq-x-fleetfoot/ MLP forum's #1 Fleetfoot fan also married to fleetfoot <
