Bronies are a religion?

Oh... a joke book. I can deal with that.

... I've clearly heard some weird shit before if I thought you were serious...

It isn't a serious holy book... yet

Maybe I can start a Food Network Religion and accept tax free donations to support my eating habits?

Nah, starting a generations-spanning religion like what Hubbard did is a better idea. People would be less likely to leave if you essentially have their older relatives as your hostage

Bringing this back to a serious discussion.... I think DT would make a good pony to sacrifice for our martyr... it's not like she's a good role model or anything, but seriously nobody would miss her.

I would say for dome bronys, yes it is and for most that its not.

Its definatly not for me, i watch the show and enjoy it but dont learn anything from it or try and live by it.

For others, however, like those pushing the love and tolerate on people, I would say it is very religeon like.

See, I can see how people would say that... I mean I myself am guilty of using the fact that we incorporate morals from the show into our lives as a way of defending bronies, so I can understand how someone would think that the brony fandom has religious overtones in it.

That being said, I think it's silly to categorize anything that you learn an ethical or moral lesson from as a religion.  I can learn that it's bad to hit people by hitting someone and seeing them bleed and cry in pain, that doesn't make hitting people my religion.

So then you have to ask yourself why they chose to call it a religion specifically.  They could have phrased it a million ways to explain people learn from the shows morals, but I feel like they deliberately used the word religion to make bronies sound like a pony-worshiping cult.  People have certain images that pop into their brain when you call it a religion, and by doing that, you're associating those images with being a brony.

That's why I really am kind of annoyed at the article... I feel like it's deliberately worded to give readers the impression that being a brony means we have pony shrines that we say prayers to and worship so that we'll go to pony-heaven.

Dude... It's a cartoon about ponies... Religion includes not just beliefs, but rituals as well. We don't have rituals.

Yes, I agree with this , religion involves belief but bronies like happiness and excitement, I think rituals but not as serious as religion. :) Cheers!

I don't consider fandoms religions, If they were I would be quite the heretic. Because I'm a brony, whovian, trekkie, and I consider my like for TF2 a fandom. It practically is one.

The way I "religiously" follow MLP could be somewhat close to Buddhism... Except without spiritual aspects. I learn from the ponies, like "divine" teachers, of friendship. But I don't call it a religion due to the fact there is no ritual or actual worship.

Does this mean that I have to renounce being a Catholic in order to remain a Brony? :(

But seriously, maybe there are some bronies who take their love of the show top far and it makes it look like a religion or way of life, but I think that most of us consider the show and fandom an involved hobby, no different from being a huge football fan (someone who watches several games, goes to games in person, plays football either on a team or for fun, and talks about football with friends). No one would call that a religion, but people call nerdy fandoms a religion without batting an eye.

There is an annoying minority of bronies that do treat it like a religion by putting the fandom on a pedestal and get butthurt when they find out that not all bronies abide by their arbitrary standards of what they think a brony should or shouldn't be but most of them aren't like that at all. Quite a few of us have admitted to learning or even remembering old lessons we forgot or even a little reminder that life isn't all doom and gloom but that is very diffferent than the minority of fans I mentioned that take it to that extreme although I will admit this fandom has more of that than any other fandom I have ever been in it is also the most civil I have ever been in so you have to take the good with the bad.

I agree with your interpretation of there motives, I agree they are probably trying to portray it more like a cult (which is obv wrong for 99% of people).

I was getting at that there are 1% of bronys (and I have even seen posts on this forum) that treat and even try and make it a religion and would even say they follow it.

I wouldn't say it's a religion... sure the ethics and morals are good to follow but they are just common sense and decency... If it were classed as a religion I wouldn't identify myself as it... I'm a Christian and that's what I will always call myself!

Brony is not a Religion.

Religion has to be founded on solid belief system, not from an imaginary created world.  Now the ideas and morals presented in the show do follow similarity's with other religions but they kinda are all common sense.  Love and Tolerate, Don't be a jerk, Killing in wrong, Reference 10 commandments for others.   Now I would says it's more of a religion than Scientology, but still not a religion.

No, bronydom is not a religion. We don't have churches or a holy book. We don't have priests, bishops, rabbis, or mullahs. This is a complex fan base of a television show, not a religion.
