Keen Blade 64 March 4, 2014 Share March 4, 2014 So I'm sure you're aware of some of the things that have gone on on Twitter and other places, with fans ganging up on writers, insulting and threatening them. As I saw over in the Why does everyone hate on Meghan? thread, a lot of you are as upset about that as I am. That's not how I want to be seen and that's not how I want bronies to be seen. The rich interaction between fans and staff that I've witnessed in my time following all this is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much. These are some truly talented people, no two ways about it, and their work brings a lot of happiness to a lot of people. So I hate to imagine the kind of impression they get when they have people badgering them over stupid things, accusing them of ruining the show, being unkind, hurtful, and mean. They deserve a whole lot better than that, especially with the willingness they've shown to talk to fans and in working to make a show that can appeal to people of all ages. And I have no doubt it must be draining for them to experience such a deluge of criticism all the time. So I have a proposition. I actually joined twitter for precisely this reason. Starting with this Saturday's episode, I propose we all make a point of turning out to support them. Say something like, "Great episode! I really loved the writing/story/art/whatever." Offer some encouragement, show your appreciation, and give them a reason to ignore the people shouting at them over idiotic things. Show them there are more people who appreciate what they do than there are critics condemning it. You don't have to agree with every decision they make. It's okay to have a different opinion or think something could have been better. But when someone has put months of their life into making something, whatever you may think or feel, you don't waltz in and dismiss it in 140 characters or less. Save the criticisms for another day and focus on the things you still enjoyed and take a moment to say as much to them. Let's use a hashtag in common, something like #weloveMLPstaff, something to show it's a concerted effort. The fact is, these people put a great deal of effort and passion into what they do, and they have to keep doing it despite the best efforts of critics and "fanbrats" to ruin it for them. Let them know they're appreciated. TL;DR Get your butt to Twitter this Saturday and leave the staff and writers a message of support and encouragement #weloveMLPstaff. And try to make a point to keep doing it, because someone has to counteract the negative in the world or the good things in it will be lost.
ghostfacekiller39 23,860 March 4, 2014 Share March 4, 2014 I dig all of the Writing Staff but Corey Powell, bro. I will NOT, I repeat, NOT show her ANY form of support when I feel she should lose her job (can't write the characters correctly, shouldn't write for the show. Plain and simple.) But, I will say that I'm pretty trusting in the most of the writing staff That ain't too bad, brudda, ain't too bad at all 1 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 March 4, 2014 Share March 4, 2014 I don't hate on the staff. The only thing I hate is that Hasbro dictates all of the episodes due to their toy line, which causes bad writing and plots that could've been developed, left hanging. deadprofile 1,122 March 4, 2014 Share March 4, 2014 I don't understand why people hate on the writers so much. I don't see that in other fandoms, so what makes us think we have the right to gripe and moan about what the creators do? Having them being involved in the fandom the way they are is a special treat for us. We should not take advantage of that the way many have been. 1 "In fire iron is born, by fire it is tamed"
Moved to Elsewhere 11,331 March 4, 2014 Share March 4, 2014 Seriously I mean there's criticizing their writing and then there's just plain being rude. Yes, they have a right to not like the writers or where they're going with the show etc. but is it really necessary to just throw insults at them on their twitter instead of well thought out criticism?
Keen Blade 64 March 4, 2014 Author Share March 4, 2014 That's another thing: when a new episode comes out, I'd like to ask you all to lay off the criticism. Legitimate or not, these are people who have put a tremendous amount of time and effort into their work. However legitimate, however gently delivered, dozens of people popping up to tell you what you, a professional, got wrong, can be pretty grating, especially when you encounter it constantly. mars 4,863 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 Oh come on. Nobody's perfect, and the staff isn't either. I know that each episode is put out with loving care, and they wouldn't give us some crap episode on purpose unless they themselves thought it was good. I know they bring their A-game 100% of the time, and perhaps they make a mistake or two but is it really that big of a deal? I don't think sending the staff/writers hate is boosting their morale or will to work on an episode, so just let them be. Let them work their magic. Keen Blade 64 March 5, 2014 Author Share March 5, 2014 (edited) That's what I'm saying. People shouldn't do that. I think we should make an effort to offer some encouragement, try to counteract the hate. Edited March 5, 2014 by Keen Blade
Its Rainbow Dash 151 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 The MLP community is like what 97% Friendship?...one lax community. But Hate exist everywhere no matter what someponies just have to gripe about something but I agree in the long run maybe we should tell the writers good job not out of countering what will always exist but just because we like them. Eloquence 2,076 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 I don't understand why people hate on the writers so much. I don't see that in other fandoms, so what makes us think we have the right to gripe and moan about what the creators do? IDK man I see an awful lot of writer hate going down in the Doctor Who fandom... (perhaps not undeserved though, switching from Davies to Moffat was a horrible mistake in my opinion) I think it's present everywhere, no matter who you are or what you do if you're popular enough someone's going to hate what you put out. I do love the ponystaff though, and if I tweeted I would totally tweet them my love My Equestrian Empire Characters Fluttershy - Eloquence - Chamomile - Ginseng - Lovestruck Ask Me Questions! OptimisticNeighsayer 478 March 5, 2014 Share March 5, 2014 I just have one question: Had you actually seen what goes on on Twitter (before you formally joined, of course), or are you only familiar with the things that are shared by the brony community? It's entirely possible that the staff does get plenty of praise already, but the fandom is better at highlighting the bad stuff because... well, there's more room for discussion, we'll put it at that. And also, if I want to support the staff, I'd do it in more than 140 characters. Hablo español--Je parle français--日本語を話す--我说中文--...and sarcasm (yeah right!) I compose music. Scootalove 10,689 March 16, 2014 Share March 16, 2014 The writers do get some praise every now and then, where we try to analyze the bad episodes that they write so that we can see which outweighs the other. I wouldn't mind supporting the staff. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Oblivion 20,271 March 16, 2014 Share March 16, 2014 `Yep, Awesome, The writers are like anyone else, they wake up, go to work, work many hours on the show.....then go on twitter and get bashed......If you don't like something the writers are doing, then sure it's okay to criticize them, but people really should try to at least be respectful while doing it!
