Which Villain had the best motivation?

Wow, those "Batman" comparisons couldn't be worse. Is the Nolan crap the only thing anyone knows about Batman anymore? Even then the Joker wasn't in it purely for the lulz like everyone seems to think.

 

I've not seen the third movie, but Bane is actually extremely smart. He spent all his time in prison, serving out the sentence of his father, reading and lifting. He was never defeated in one blast, nor did he have his own army until that Nolan crap. The true Bane broke Batman's back and required Bruce to rethink his usual dealings with enemies in order to defeat Bane because of his tactical genius and physical strength. Bane is an expert chess master.

 

Scarecrow has always been one of the more intimidating villains for Batman because of his fear toxin and ability to read into people's minds from being a psychologist. Every time Batman has faced him, his fears and doubts from when his parents were killed are brought back. The Scarecrow himself is afraid of only one thing as a prolonged exposure to his toxin, Batman, and he willfully seeks him out because of his addiction to fear.

 

Joker is not in it for the lulz. He enjoys what he does, but that's not his motivation. His motivation is more along the lines of just wanting to make things bad for Batman and those around him. He will do pretty much any crime, and even go so far as to put himself in death's way because he knows Batman will save him. He more than likely would never kill Batman, just as he knows Batman will never kill him. Unless he manages to cause the bat to snap, at which point Bruce would turn himself in. He will however kill and harm those close to Batman. He did manage to kill Robin and he is the one responsible for Barbara being paralyzed.

 

The Nolan stuff, while good on it's own, does a piss-poor job of staying true to the lore and should be held as it's own universe. If one wants to discuss Batman lore or make comparisons to other characters, they should be left out and actual DC Comics based facts should be used.

 

I won't comment on Loki since I know nothing about him, not a huge Marvel fan. Only thing I know of Loki is from Norse myth.

 

As for better fitting comparisons, people need to look outside of comic characters. Discord is based on Q from Star Trek, which is plain as day to see if you know of Q. The rest, other than Mane-iac which I've already said, I would have to think on but I'm sure there are better.

 

 

Nightmare Moon. In the comics, it's revealed that she was feeling sad, but not to the point of becoming evil. However, evil spirits called the Nightmare Forces took advantage of her moment of weakness to take over her mind.

 

The IDW comics are a separate universe that has no hold on the show.

And I was referring to him chaining up the Crystal Ponies and having them walk around. They didn't seem to be doing anything other than walking around so I assume the reason he did that was because he found their pain enjoyable

Really? The Changelings have survived just fine in the boonies with no problem. It's doubtful they need love to survive, they just use it as an energy boost.

Eh, that's iffy. I guess you could see it as him using it, but when I saw it, it looked more like Twilight and the Crystal Heart being thrown to the abyss.

Chrysalis and the changelings had the overall better motivation for their crimes. Discord just wanted to watch the world burn, Luna was depressed/possessed by a demonic entity and Sombra and Sunset Shimmer were just power hungry. You could argue that Chrysalis was power hungry too, but she had the added incentive to be doing all this for her people, not just herself.

 

I'm not sure if we can count Mane-iac in here. Her only crime was being a campy comic book villain.

Discord's lack of a set goal was part of what made him my favorite villain. When you've got power like that you don't need a goal, you just need amusement.
