gaming I need HELP installing a Minecraft Mod...

Recommended Posts

My friends and I managed to figure it out :D The game is working just fine

Sorry, I have no idea where to advertise this... D:

Anyway, I need help trying to install the Aether II mod for Minecraft.

So far I have (somehow) properly installed Player API and Forge (1.7.2)

Does this mean I need Aether II version 1.7.2? Or can I still use 1.7.4?

Also... I have no flipping clue how to even install it. I have it downloaded and opened in winrar but otherwise I'm lost. It didn't come with any Read Me or Installation text files... D:

This is making me upset XD And I'm tired of it.

I do NOT want to watch a stupid video tutorial on how to do it. It's a waste of time because I'll probably have to re-wind all the time and just... no. If you post a tutorial video, you are cruel.

PLEASE help me D: Maybe give me a step-by-step instruction manual? If you can, even make it stupid XD I'm not tech savvy. I understand basic things like .jar and folders and junk, though.

Anyway... I don't know if I can offer anything for your help D: Other than my undying gratitude!

My fate rests in your hands.

EDIT: I tried using a mod installer but it didn't work. It might be because I don't have 7za.exe or whatever that is...

I'm sorry to say that I do not know exactly how how to install this particular mod per say, but I do remember it being a royal pain to get right when I played with it for 1.2.whatever

I think I had like, 3-4 different builds as I tested different DL files for Aether/Forge/ect, and in different order (usually one vanilla build, one as far as I got until it crashed, and one before it crashed, and so on).

I think my issue lied in compatibility crud. In that, either my initial DL of Aether/forge didn't work properly together... or the files were misnamed when uploaded and actually for some other version, or some other crud like that, but it's been too long, and may not apply to the newest incarnation.

It's a really awesome mod though, and that's going off of like, it's old status.

Still have two different builds for it in the dark corners of my harddrive.

Though, this new Aether mod intrigues me.

Either way, the winrar insertion method...

Anyways, I honestly haven't messed with the more recent Minecraft mods (I'll assume it's similar though for now), as I've been going largely semi-vanilla, but if it's anything like the older mods, your downloaded mod file should have a .rar or .zip file. Inside that file, should be a mess of .class files and folders with simple names. Open this .rar or .zip file with Winrar, so they show up in a related window.

Sometimes zipped files also have what you need located in a subfolder of the Mod DL, but essentially, you're looking for whatever folder has .class files in it.

* Shove the opened zipped file to the corner for now, but don't close it.

Then, look into your .minecraft folder hidden in your AppData directory. "C:\Users\_insertnamehere_\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft"
Then go to the folder marked 'bin' and look for a file called 'minecraft.' Open this with winrar via right click and 'open with', and you should get another zipped folder full of simple-named folders and .class files. Drag the Mod's .class/folders into the minecraft file, and overwrite anything conflicting. This will either corrupt your minecraft game files (but not saves) or install the mod.

* I suggest you copy the minecraft file before attempting this as a backup, so you don't have to reinstall the whole thing.

You may or may not need to also throw files into a 'mods' subfolder in your .minecraft folder, named exactly that, but that depends on the mod, and usually it will say somewhere if it's necessary.

@@SFyr, Thank you so much for your efforts in helping me :D It is REALLY appreciated! I followed your instructions, but unfortunately they did not work. :< Didn't even corrupt my game/files. It just is same old vanilla minecraft D;

Hmmmmm... well, still! This information is extremely helpful and maybe I can use it to figure out what to do! :D Again, thank you so so so so so so much!!

Huh.

Maybe it's using a different--...

Oh yeah.

Umm.

I just remembered something about the new minecraft version.

I think it stores the (main?) minecraft game files in the 'versions' folder instead, in sub folders for new builds made for the new launcher.

I think those would be the ones you want to mess with (just look for the jar file in the version you're playing with), assuming forge is also on the version/file you're trying to throw the mod's .class files into.

To my knowledge it works roughly the same way.

* Just make sure you're using the right version file with the prerequisite mods installed; I ended up making a version for Vanilla 1.6.1, then 1.6.1 + modloader in preparation for mods, then 1.6.1 with modloader and whatever mods I wanted.

Either way, it's something to try.   Sorry I can't offer exact instructions, haha...

I think it was kind of a relocation deal so that the new loader would be able to keep multiple versions on hand, instead of having the user manually switch out game files or rely on 3rd party programs to do it.

If that doesn't work...

A last ditch effort may be to make a vanilla version, dedicate it to playing around, then manually throw in files for modloader/forge/aether one after the other and in the correct order, stopping to see if it works at each stage.

This is how I used to do it, and it sucked sometimes.  :P

Either way the best solution is to watch a YouTube hot to video and how to do it. Worked for me.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestia

Great to hear! Be sure to cuddle a cloud bunny for me. :yay:  Regardless, I still hold it to be a really awesome mod; definitely up there with Better than Wolves and such.

Anyways,

Enjoy the mod!

Thank you! :D Omg... my friend and I had a LAN server up so we could play together. We finally made it to the Aether but it took us at least 10 tries before we could even SURVIVE because those darn zephyrs kept knocking us off XDD But when we finally made it, we saw the bunnies and I was like, "Awwww! Cute!" while my friend just... ran over and killed them all D: XD
