The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker is a good one for this. You must give yourself some credit as well as you say you felt uncomfortable talking to him, you just need to get in touch with why it made you uncomfortable, the gut instinct is important here.

If I get a bad vibes from someone I stop until I figure out why, saved me from a lot of trouble from people.

For me... it was strange. So, I do not like arrogance. I do not like people who lack integrity. I wish to slay them on the spot. However, how do I know he is simply not just someone who is not compatible with my personality? I love and cherish wholesome things -- he literally only liked villains and watching people fall. You might think "Well, is that not the best proof?!" Eh, I wish. Plenty of people are edgy or broken but are redeemable, right? I had NO idea he was capable of sheer malice. I am comforting the users to the best of my abilities but my goodness this was all so unnecessary.

Also, just today, one of his targets was messaging me...  "I am too tired to go to the forums. Need lots of sleep but you are saving me." Me? *sigh* To think he was trying to separate me from meeting this person... I am just generally being kind. Apparently they are so used to abuse that even basic kindness goes far and heals them. :/  Poor darlings.

I am thinking that it is only fair to offer more elaboration on this. Since this is a particularly sad one for me.

Your post is a somber one for me to read. I am so sorry to see that you are right. If you only got "the creeps" from him and he did not do anything to you - it was because he perceived you were invulnerable. I remember he used to hate that I "appeared" soft but I was very firm and combative when he kept insisting I go to his Discord. I thought he was just desperate and lonely.. so I pitied him. But I told him I preferred the pastel colors of MLPF and not the dark, lonely environment of Discord. I did not come to MLPF to be on Discord.  This annoyed him, so I called him out on 2021 for being pushy and two faced when he did not get what he wanted.

Please do not beat yourself up -- and if you do study dark psychology -- please do not allow it to darken your world. Allow it to illuminate how you could improve from the situation. Every time I hear a story from this guy I keep saying "stupid me, I should have listened to my intuition!" Normally, I discourage discussing the bad things of a user because I do not like gossip or encouraging negative talk -- but the amount of people who have been hurt or abused and the deep level of which the rabbit hole goes is so bad... *sigh* I am not asking people to be saints as I am no saint, myself and I try not to judge others -- I kept giving him the benefit of the doubt despite calling him out in 2021... but apparently I acted as some shield or enabler because he would "cling" to me in public to make people think I would protect him... while being very sneaky around me about what he was really doing. Then in private he acted "so nice" to people when he wanted something. Always requesting free art. If you are an artist -- chances are -- he popped in your DMs. (If you are a new user who is an artist who does not know this guy -- consider a bullet dodged) But there were many red flags. His arrogance. His snark and pushiness, for one. I just ignored it as 'eh, not my cup of tea, I will not judge.' I really do try my best not to judge even if something makes me VERY uncomfy...

Now, here is the kicker...

You want to call yourself stupid? How do you think I feel? There were some users who stopped returning here... I wanted to check up on them since it seemed so abrupt and strange. I commented it to him and he CRIED and begged me to please not reach out to them. I asked him why and he said something that -- in hindsight -- pretty much gives him away. But at the time, he made it seem like the users HATED it here and preferred their real life and were just "happier elsewhere." They started getting bullied in other places like DA and FimFiction so their self esteem lowered... and they just felt that was life... I did not know until much much later when evidence emerged and I reached out to the hurt people to ask why they had disappeared so suddenly. :/ I should have been pushier to ask -- but I like to respect people's boundaries...

This is why even when Sketch disappeared, I was so alarmed and kept asking and reassuring her that if something happened -- we had her back. To please report it. She was confused since things have changed here greatly (for the better) since he has been gone... things are more.. functional. Peaceful. Less uncomfortable and tense...

Anyway...

That "girlfriend" he made before suddenly having to "leave everyone" for some "mysterious reason" (yeah, leaving memories of almost 10 years? really? why?) was just one of many users he was isolating from MLPF -- using fear mongering tactics and old traumas to isolate them... even a sweet user who loved being here-- he made her less friendly and more bitter and angry at the world based on complete lies... I thought they simply hated us -- so I wanted them to go where they would be happier.. but no.. he was acting like he had "secret intel of mlpf site" to terrify them from reporting him to people here.. he made their world so much darker when in truth -- even users of MLPForums do not support his behavior at all. 

He was then using his (super low rank) as a symbol of power as if he "had secret intel on staff." RP staff is not even privy to what ECs are able to do -- like engaging with Cast Characters, etc. What silly "intel" did he claim to have? Then he would doctor screenshots to pin users against each other (in private, in discord). He HATED seeing wholesome groups together. Even tried to attack The World Cup event in 2023. Always something ominous with him. But we figured he was just... strange. Plus we had no evidence since nobody was speaking up! Some were even believing his lies against staff being evil. And then that weird warning he tried to offer as an exit, laughing that he was trusted, before evidence emerged and he got caught last minute. 

Many are hurt by this so I would like to at least turn this into a PSA -- please know that neither staff nor users of MLPForums condone this behavior. Ever. And anyone who does, should be reported. If you see something strange -- please report it. If someone creeps you out -- and you feel they may be a threat to the community -- please report to staff (with evidence). We do not ban easily just because someone is "a little strange," you have to have hard evidence but if you need to vent, we will listen and keep it anonymous, as well.

Do not allow ANYONE to isolate you on Discord or another platform even if they seem to be bonding with you over "secrets they have on other users" because there you cannot make reports as effectively. If you check your chats with him -- he used an illegal hack to swipe all the evidence clean. He would not have been able to do that here.. so luring people desperately into Discord was his forte. Even if you had said no, he would keep pushing repeatedly. Please do not tolerate this and simply report to staff. Reports are anonymous.

With that said, more than ever, I want you guys to please connect more with each other and the people you do feel safe with, check up on them, see if they are okay. I feel SO bad that many were bottling this in because they thought we would protect him. :/  

If anyone is trying to lure you away from your protection... see it as a red flag. This site exists thanks to staff providing it for you guys to enjoy. Why the hay would we sabotage it by trying to hurt users? O.o

Appreciate the transparency on the subject as that is definitely serious and good to know. Abusers do love their secrecy... it reminds me of some drama I've experienced in the past, oh forums...

How Agent Smith felt about The Matrix? that is how I feel about the real world. I am trapped in a world of greedy sadists and warmongers. The real world to me, feels like a prison that I cannot escape from.

I could continue writing my MLP FIM fan fiction, but whether I do or not, does not change the fact we are never going there no matter how much some MLP fans like Night Sky and I would like to. It's as I said before everyone has their view what a paradise is, and it is a subjective term. Some fans may wish they could be a superhero in some DC or Marvel story, but fiction is just that. I don't find DC Universe particularly a good fiction to exist in, personally I think it would suck and would be no better than the real world due to unchecked tyranny that goes on in worlds like that, especially in Justice League Dark, however I stand by my opinion that if I could in a fantasy world scenario, I'd choose rebirth as a Pegasi in Equestria from MLP FIM show universe.

 

Some people may call me weird, a loser, or say I am on my way to a psychiatric ward for saying things like this, but I do not care.

While Ponies may not like my pessimism here in the real world, if in an imaginary scenario I could talk to them, I would not have a reason to have that same attitude in their world, and quite frankly I don't see why anyone would do.

Yeah that is why I don't go on sites like that. If it is true that people wanted Monarchy removed entirely from MLP FIM, they're going to need to come up with a better explanation than "X pony had a lapse in judgement" something we are all prone to do, even us humans.

I've given reasons why real world rulers suck a lot more though. You agreed with them because you're realistic about the flaws with human nature, we're not exactly a peaceful population.
