"Thanks Star," he said. He then shook her hoof. "Guardian Braveheart. But you can call me Guardian. Nice to meet you. And sure, you can tag along. But I don't know how long I'll be staying here in Ponyville, since my job is back in Canterlot. So, what's your job?"

 

Maybe socializing would keep my mind off things, he thought.

"Seasonal lead weather pony~!" she proudly responded, her wings fluttering a bit behind her as she did so. "Usually I only work during the winter, but one of my colleagues got lazy, so I'm filling some holes." She trotted back to where she was sitting before and patted the seat beside her. "I'm almost finished for today though, just have to check if everypony did their job right and then I'll be off to catch some sun in the park."

With a chuckle she gestured for a waitress. "You said you're from Canterlot, right? Have you gotten to try the lavender-mint sandwiches here yet? I promise you, they're delicious."

"I guess," he said. "And it's might fine for the breath, especially when everyday you have the Princesses as audience."

 

He sat down at the same table as her. She was gesturing for a waitress.

 

Guess I can go for lunch, he thought. Maybe keep my mind out of things.

 

"Anyways, lead Weather pony? Nice role, very important."

She chuckled and blushed a little. "Well, I suppose I make it sound a bit bigger than it really is. For the most part it's just making sure the job gets done right." She excitedly flapped her wings and exclaimed, "I do get to order ponies around though, that's always great."

 

Slowly her eyes trailed down. Her gaze rested on his cutie mark. "A red shield?" she thought to herself. "And he said he works in Canterlot. He's probably a royal guard then." She looked back up at him and asked, "Might I ask what rank you are?"

"Oh... me," he said. "I'm the Captain. Been a while since I promoted to be. Kinda like mine to, taking charge, checking if every guard is in order, blah blah blah. But I do have time to talk to the princesses. They are a fun bunch, I should say. So down to earth."

"Captain!?" she repeated surprised. She gave him a little playful shove against the shoulder. "Sheesh, and then you go and make me feel like I'm important."

 

She silently started to eat her sandwich, curiously examining Guardian as she did so. Getting a better look at him now that he had cheered up Star couldn't help but feel there was something charming about him.

"Well, it just kinda feels like the same day everyday," he said. "You go to the palace, you check attendance, you patrol, you stand all day, you go home. It repeats everyday, but I occasionally get out of work. Said that I needed to train my Vice Captain to handle responsibility when I'm out."

 

He took a bit on his sandwich. He eyed her a bit, somehow feeling attracted to her... again.

Soon Solar arrived in the hotel. He walked into the lounge to meet Scarlet. He gave her a big warm smile and sat down next to her.

 

"Hehe, hello Scarlet, I see you were waiting for me." He says as he looks around a bit anxious. He had never gone out with a girl, so it was odd.

Solar blushed. He wanted to make a show of affection. Like a kiss, or to hold her hand, but did not have the courage at that moment.
