Forum Idea: forum with 0% negativity allowed

Edit: I didn't mean the WHOLE forum. Like omg. I'm sorry if it came off that way, I didn't mean it. But thanks so much for being rude jerks about it, most of you. It really puts into perspective why so many people are done with this place.

 

So, if anyone else is updated on Adventure Time, there was recently an episode in Season Five about the Ice King and his lost love. I won't spoil it

 

Basically, there was an enemy in the episode called Bella Noche who was a being of pure anti magic.

 

This gave me an idea for the forums that may or may not be a good thing, that's really up to you to decide. XD

 

I was thinking we could maybe have a forum where there is literally 0% negativity allowed. Almost like a little oasis in the opinionated pixel land that is this forum.

 

It might encourage others to be kind and teach people to find the good where they see bad.

 

It would almost be like a personification of the old saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".

 

I'm just... kind of tired of going to practically every thread and seeing some kind of argument where people are butting heads. D:

Sounds good in theory, but what about in practice? It would be an absolute nightmare to enforce, especially since it's so much easier to be negative than positive. From personal experience, keeping the present forums tidy is already a difficult job. I like to consider myself a "glass half full" kind of guy, but I find it difficult to justify the time and effort needed to make such a forum a reality--if it can even become a reality. 

 

With that said, let's consider an alternative: why don't we, as members, encourage positivity across the entire site (and beyond)? No need for enforcement; instead, we'd have a community working together toward a common goal. Remember, folks, non-staff are just as--if not more--crucial to maintaining the community as the staff are. We can each play our own parts, and together, we can make the site a better place.

If you have no negativity, then everyone would be nodding emptily at everything...

It'd be pretty boring.

 

Besides, once you try to enforce how pwoplw are feeling, that's when you know a forum is going downhill.

That sounds like Facist dictatorship, not a forum. I'm pretty sure it's been made clear many times that no negativity only results in bad nightmarish dystopian settings, not happy fun times being had by all.

 

Negativity IS the internet, if you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to stick around.

We're human beings, not robots. Any sort of group of people will have some level of negativity, always. It's kind of in our nature.

 

Ironically, this would spark more negativity than if they just left it the fuck alone. You can't force happiness. It just doesn't work.

It's just flat-out impossible. I really don't know how else to say it. People generally aren't the "Sir, I respect your opinion, but I must humbly disagree. *adjusts monocle*

I think most people are in agreement that this is a pretty bad idea. If you want to see the forums become a nicer place the best way to start would to just be kind to others, you can't really control what they say or do, and it would be absurd to try.

I think such an idea would be more appropriate for a thread. A full section seems like too much as the topics would start to get repetitive, fast. I think I remember seeing a "Positive words" thread in the forum lounge before but can't seem to find it anymore. Maybe start a new one up?
