I've noticed a trend with Equestria Daily the last few times I've gone to check it out, there's been a drop in overall commentary on posts, a drop in daily activity as shown by the site map. Now, there's a possibility that people are just lurking it like I do, but even I've noticed that I generally just don't head out to that site much anymore in general. I remember a time when that site was the site for all pony news.

So honestly I'm just generally curious. Did you once go to EqD for news and now you've just stopped for whatever reason? Do you still go? Did you never go? How else do you get your show and fandom news? Do you even care about getting news about it? Maybe the fandom just subsists off widespread word of mouth nowadays, and no longer really has centralized hubs like it did in the past.

I still go to EQD for my regular dosage of pony news. Since they're dedicated to MLP content, it's a very natural place to go and find most anything related to ponies or the fandom.

I do believe EQD has suffered from a drop in hits as it pertains to fanfiction. With the rise of Fimfiction, fans have another ample source for getting a fanfiction fix. EQD's pre-readers -- whether fairly or unfairly -- have also cultivated a fair deal of very verbal detractors. The discontent has, I think, undermined their status as the source for premiere fanfiction within the fandom. It also doesn't help that their process for selecting fanfiction tends to move at a glacial pace, resulting in their features falling behind the curve.

Drama in general may have also whittled away at their reputation and thus their general readership. All the noise surrounding Equestria Girls and the Season 3 finale made bronies look awfully petty (and not without good reason), and I'd venture to guess that a number of fans have sought to avoid known places for drama. Since EQD is such a huge hub for news and conversation, it became one of the epicenters for the uptick in negativity.

@, Hey, just letting you know that I moved this to the Sugarcube Corner section since it pertains to a brony website. Thanks. :)

I can't really say that I've noticed a whole lot of decline as far as commentary goes, but that's largely due to the fact that I've never paid much heed to the comments anyway. I usually check Equestria Daily for news purposes, but I do delve into some of the fan made content that is posted there as well. While EQD is reputed as being one of the oldest and most popular brony sites on the net, not every fan uses it. I've met many people who rely on word of mouth communication from other websites or forums such as this one.

That's actually a good point. I was never impressed with the way EqD handled fanfic, but maybe back when it's userbase was huge it was one of the only known sources of fanfic news. Now that FiMFiction is as huge as it is, those users may have laid off.

Whoops, sorry. Thought brony websites didn't count as pony content.

Way back when EQD first emerged, it was the source of MLP fanfiction. They could also spend more time filtering out the chaff and featuring top-tier stories on a regular basis. With Fimfiction's prominence and the huge flood of stories submitted on a daily basis, EQD seems to have lost its place in the spotlight. They've tried adjusting their pre-reader system two or three times in the last two years; yet they continue to encounter the same pervasive problems (e.g., slow turnaround time and inconsistent approval standards).

Bear in mind that I'm not trying to harp on EQD's fanfiction system as worthless; however, enthusiasm has significantly cooled over the last year or so.
