Redesigning one of my OCs, critique wanted

Well, I the more I stared at my OCs old design, the more unsatisfied I became. And so, I put in the time and effort to rectify such a travesty. I dunno if I entirely succeeded, though. I mean, I rather like it now, but I also like the old one after making it. Will I just become unsatisfied once again? Perhaps If I had some input I could determine such.

 

For point of reference, here was Gardenia's old design:

I like it! The new design is brighter, and I like the different shades in her tail!

i like the new design! the longer dress looks really nice, and as the user above me said the different shades in her tail look really nice too.

overall i feel like the new design looks more refined, but they both look awesome!

Trust me, no matter how hard you try to improve it, your mind will naturally find some flaw to it and leave you unsatisfied. It's the same with all drawings. Otherwise, I like both designs. To me, the difference between the two seems like natural aging. i.e. The bottom one seems older and a bit more defined as a mare.

No, I just kinda draw pony ears that way...

Elf ears... Huh, that's actually pretty accurate to how they look. In a good way that is - I think it adds character, and if it wasn't intentional then it certainly looks it!

 

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the old picture but I won't lie - I love the new one. She looks a lot more... authoritative? A lot more noble.

 

It's almost as if she's older / more mature in this new picture... you should keep them both!

Well, first off, you might want to test her character on the Mary Sue Tester.  If you don't know what a mary sue is, go here.  And, may I suggest you put her in different poses, so the rest of us can really know what she looks like.

All I can say is practice, practice, practice will never make perfect, but it will at least lead to some levels of satisfaction. As an artist, I can say that I rarely stay satisfied with my creations, but it just drives me to challenge myself more!
