DT's origin as a cutie mark bully seems odd.

I mean at the time of "Call of the Cutie" only Twist and AB did not have cutie marks out of the class.  Twist got her cutie mark during the episode and they were going to DT's cutecenara.  Since she was having that party, she must have just gotten her cutie mark which makes DT third last. 

 

The other implication is that there was quite a period where Silver Spoon had her cutie mark while DT did not and yet they were friends as they were quite cohesive during "Call of the Cutie," and yet she was leader of their pairing.

She is really just there as the stereotypical "rich bully/valley girl". So while her origins as a bully may be a little murky, she is there because you cannot have any school based scenes without a bully.

I think her place as a bully is fitting. She was likely taunted for not having a cutie mark. She finally got one, and now its time for her to make fun of someone else. How she's friends with Silver Spoon, however, is beyond me.

Minus the last part I think this is an interesting way of possibly looking at it. That said I just think she has such a domineering personality not having a cutie mark had no impact on her ability to bully others around.

Though it's never explained, I think DT's dislike of Applebloom (and later the CMC) goes beyond the cutie mark thing.

The lack of a cutie mark is just an easy target to tease her about.

 

I haven't seen it in a long time, but I think the first time we EVER see them, they are immediately antagonistic towards Applebloom. And then when Babs Seed shows up, she doesn't have a cutie mark, but they like her because she helps them bully the CMC. And then later in Flight to the Finish, Silver Spoon laments that calling the blank flanks isn't bothering them.

 

The point isn't that they're blank flanks, it's that DT seems to have this grudge against Applebloom and her friends and wants them to feel bad about themselves. I wouldn't freakin' LOVE to know WHY. It could be completely petty, because kids are petty. But it could also be really interesting.
