BABScon Drama

[11th Doctor Whooves 794]

Since so much drama has surrounded BABScon, I've decided that this topic will be for all the issues that have plagued it since it ended.  Let's see, so far we have:

 

1. Final Draft being kicked

 

2. The girl approached by a brony for possibly malicious reasons and the bungling of the incident by the SACAnime staff

 

3. Obsidian Winter's claims that funds were missapropriated and various other claims against the BABScon staff.

 

Let's see what else develops before too long, lol.

The very short story about the Final Draft incident is that he was kicked out for trying to go over the heads of con staff to get an interview, which is funny to me, considering some of the things he is horseimfamous for.

Yeah, I read Obsidian Winter's Official Press Release, but I'm wondering if anyone was there to see it happen.  From what I hear he's kind of a jerk, and now he seems to be going out of his way to tear down Babscon.  Someone on Twitter told him that after running a successful con that was praised by guests, he replied with "Successful is a subjective term".

 

I'm just trying to see if maybe he has any right to be acting this way.  I've never paid much attention to big names in the fandom until recently, so I don't really know anything about anyone.  From what I've read of the claims against him, and his posts on Twitter, I kinda think he's a jerk.  But I could be wrong, which is what I'm trying to find out, lol.

I saw him being escorted out of the con/hotel while waiting for a panel.  It's good to see that his tantrum mode has yet to subside.

 

A lot of the stuff I've heard about him might as well be taken with a grain of salt, but in short, he has an unwarranted sense of self-importance, and what made this whole incident humorous for me is that one of the many things he is reputable for is bullying other MLP-sites that feature news/streaming/etc. by claiming EFN has exclusive rights to steam and interview everyone and everything.  I believe he's even gone so far as to claim that he is the middle man between the actual show and everyone else.  I've also heard a few personal stories that all around paint him as sort of a jerk.

 

As I said, though, it's best to take a lot of it with a grain of salt, as far as how Final Draft is as a person.

I didn't see it happen but from what I read and what I know, he had more than enough chances to stop doing underhanded BS and follow the rules. But judging from the fact that there was some tomfoolery before the con even started, I don't think there was any intention of playing it straight.

 

I find it humorous that I ran a panel directly making fun of someone's creation (with permission!) and I was more upfront and honest about that than he was about his news site.

Well certainly when egos are bruised, it is not uncommon for someone to go out of their way to make sure someone else looks bad to make up for what they did.

 

I don't know this guy but he can moan and groan all he wants to --he isn't going to win.  Babscon was a success.  Period.  In spite of all the problems, it was wildly popular.  If this Final Draft pony persists in complaining about the con, he is just going to make himself look foolish which will also be a poor reflection as to the professionalism or lack thereof of Everfree Northwest.  He needs to be very careful in my opinion.  He would be best not to insult the intelligence of the same people who are coming to his con as well.

That really kind of sucks. Even if you are somewhat a big name in the fandom, it would still be a terrible feeling to be kicked out of a convention you've awaited so long for. Think of it, saving the money, planning the trip and transportation, all of that wasted. I feel bad for the guy, even if he is rumored to be a "jerk".

You know I find it really interesting to not know what someone looks like, hear a lot of stories and then see a photo.  He looks like a nice guy.  He probably is deep down inside.  It's a shame that sometimes insecurity or a bit of "fame" goes to the head and makes us behave the way we know we shouldn't.  Sort of like Sunset Shimmer isn't it?

 

So maybe we should all send him some home grown My Little Pony love prayers and hope he gets that it's nice to be part of one of the most wonderful fandoms in the world if he lets himself be instead of being "better" and on the outside.  True leaders don't have to tell people they are, they just are.

Actually what is also very sad is that instead of admitting he pushed the envelope too far too many times, nothing is his fault.  He cannot admit he did anything wrong.  That tells me that if something goes wrong at HIS con, Everfree, that he won't take responsibility for that either.

 

I was on the fence of ever attending Everfree but now I'm not.  I doubt I will go to that Con now.  And if he offended enough guests, I doubt he will get a high guest list at that Con either.  He just shot himself in the foot and unless he calms down and apologizes to a lot of people he is going to find out what the laws of Karma really are.

 

I AM ADDING THIS 2 DAYS LATER- I really should have done this as soon as I found out but if you keep reading you will see that I was not correct about Everfree Northwest.  That is not his con.  His is MLP - MSP.  Very sorry to the folks at Everfree Northwest.

It is just another example of a fandom famous person taking it to far. They don't realize that the fandom really doesn't need them, and they act like they are this indispensable news outlet. I just hope that what he does doesn't ruin everfree northwest, as a lot of people payed to go there.

That's a good point.  I certainly hope it's a success so that those who are going have another wonderful experience.  But I am thinking more on the guest appearance list.  If he offends the guests, who is going to sign up to be there when there are so many choices now?

Being new to the fandom I actually don't know of any "famous" ponies.  This is new to me.

They are not famous in the same sense as movie stars, or Alex jones. They are pseudo figure heads and "news outlets", they get to interview a couple VA's at the conventions, and then they let that very simple amount of power go to their heads.

He was there representing Everfree Network. That is an entirely separate entity from Everfree Northwest. MLP-MSP is a Minnesota pony convention that he is a Co-Chair of. If there is a convention you don't want to got because of him, it's that one.

Thank you so much for taking the time to set me straight.  I do apologize for the folks at Everfree Northwest for the association that does not exist.  I'm glad to know the truth.  That might change my opinion about going to their con as well.

I was about to say, Everfree Northwest and Everfree Network are seperate things. The guys running Everfree Northwest are fantabulous and I've heard good things about their con so I wouldn't worry about it.

 

This, however, will reflect poorly on MLP-MSP. He's in a position of power, all of his actions will be scrutinized and reflect what he represents. It doesn't matter if he's the only one with an attitude problem, it makes his network, con, and entire team on his network and con look bad.

 

I will admit I laughed way too hard at the pic and quote @easymac provided. If that's true, that's hilarious. You run a news network for a fandom based on cartoon pastel horses. no1curr if you're horse (in)famous.
