gaming Had Sonic Ruined For You?

I know literally nothing about the fanbase. I'm an oldschool Sonic fan from the Genesis days and when SatAM was still on Saturday mornings.

Yes, the games have all sucked since Adventure 2. But there something ingrained in me to hold out hope that eventually something good will come of Sonic Team.

'06 was a disaster though.

There were still good games such as Sonic Colours, Sonic Generations and Sonic Lost Worlds (which I'm still mastering the controls on it).

Well, I didn't start to lose interest in the franchise until I argued with a troll on deviantart-but, I wouldn't say that 'ruined' my experience since that guy is a jerk to everyone in the same fandoms as him (including FiM)-though, I quickly became aware of the negative reputation.

And as much as it shames me to admit, I did fall into the bad part of the fanbase for a while before I realized what I jerk I was turning into (mostly due to the Archie comics) so I don't get involved as much and apologized to those I was less than pleasant to.

Nah, I've been a Sonic fan for most of my life. I know Sonic probably better than my own life.

95% of the fans are total jerks, and they make no sense as they meaninglessly rant and rave about everything Sonic they can find.

The other 5% are people like me, who just loves Sonic for Sonic, no complaints or rants that get out of hand. Sure I can say I didn't really care for this and this in that particular game, but I'm not going bananas just because I didn't like Sonic's stretchy fuzzy arms in Unleashed, or that Chris Thorndyke hogged the camera in a show I thought was called Sonic X.

I mean, it's fun to discuss, but when people just start ranting and raving for no reason and start acting like jerks, that's where I draw the line.

I'm a member of the Sonic Stadium Message Boards, and if you're not careful on what you say, you'll get pounced on just for having an opinion.

Sonic fans are nuts, it's hard to find sensible ones that you can actually have a conversation with like 2 grown adults, not rage quitting 14 year old COD players. (No offence, bros! ^^")

The fans haven't really ruined anything Sonic for me, I'm too "into" Sonic for them to get to me. But they do make it hard to call myself a fan without looking like a jerk right off the bat.

I actually made a post on there a couple of nights ago about how it seems Sonic fans are the "butt" of fandom jokes, which they kind of are.

Sonic fans get plenty of hate from people off the internet, but they kind of deserve it. SEGA and Sonic Team work their butts off to try and satisfy their fans, but all they get is hate mail and random death threats on their office message machine.

Personally, I think the new Sonic Boom series that SEGA has recently announced is a rebellion against the Sonic fans. It's kind of like "We've tried to please you, now it's our turn to make our games how we want to make them." And to that, I tip my non-existing hat to them and say good day sirs.

If SEGA would have stopped listening to their fans a while back and done things how they wanted them, Sonic would probably be better off.

Don't get me wrong, I'm probably the biggest Sonic fan on MLPF, I love the blue blur and everything about him, but his fans are kind of jerks. Most of them, anyways. ^^"

I have been playing Sonic since I was like 4. I don't think some pictures of a pregnant sonic or whatever have you could ruin that.

Though I do get chewed out by the fanbase on a somewhat regular basis due to the fact that I still like Sonic Adventure 2 a lot.

I think you've nailed it down perfectly. The Sonic fandom is like a enigma I find rather fascinating because it shouldn't exist. It's literally like it came from a different universe where stereotypes are fact. It's like a caricature of fandoms with all the worst traits and barely any of the good ones.
