TheMarkz0ne 962 May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 I have always had a fear of insects. Not all of them really. I have the common arachnophobia and just don't like the idea of them being on me. However....I love the design of an insect and it reflects in visual media. I mean my favorite MLP villain is Queen Chrysalis! That makes no sense does it? I also grew up heavily into Spider Man. I also find how insects operate in their matriarch system. So what do you think is the issue? Because I know most spiders are harmless to humans. PoniesPlease 365 May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 I'm similar in that I get very creeped out when I see one scuttling across the floor of my house. However, things like Spiderman, Chrysalis etc. don't really bug me (no pun intended). It's an odd one.
Ribbonfree 2,383 May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 Fear of insects is a primal response in most humans because back in the days of running around clubbing each other in the face with rocks we had no idea which of the danged things were harmless and which were lethal so we learned over time to be afraid of all of them, and that mechanism exists to this day. It's perfectly natural. Besides, cartoon insectoids are way different from real insects. After all, they're anthropomorphized to some extent.
Chaos Storm 34 May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 I think that insects and spiders are neat. I have owned 3 tarantulas and would have another. My wife on the other hand is terrified of bugs. I have explained to her that the ones that can hurt you don't want to hurt you normally unless they fear for their life. So in all actuality they are more scared of you than you are them. Gernia 691 May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 Maybe it's how they're portrayed in certain forms of media, that probably caused them to scare you? Maybe it's the fear of them possibly stinging you (some of them at least)? I used to be afraid of bees because they could sting and fly, and always got in the way. I eventually got over it and realized they're only going to be mad if you annoy them. Otherwise, I think insects are cool, especially ants. That's the best response I can give. asdasdasd 14 May 1, 2014 Share May 1, 2014 Yeah, some bugs can be creepy, but it's not like I hate them. I'm getting used to them. In my basement, there used to be like a thousand spiders in there and a lot of cobwebs. 1 Rainbow Dash Fast, colorful, awesome, radical, cool, and the best flyer ever! Oblivion 20,266 May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 Yea, I know what you mean, for me the insect that I cannot stand would be a spider, the way they look is just plain creepy! Not to mention the brown recluse that we have out here in Nebraska can actually leave a very nasty bite, but for the most part as you most likely know can't really hurt, unfortunately some fears are just extremely hard to get over. Tholos 145 May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 The fact they have eight legs tends to make people feel off-put when they witness a spider walking. They think, even if just subconsciously, that it has too many legs. Maybe the spiders just think we have too few legs.

DiscordedSocks 8 May 3, 2014 Share May 3, 2014 Pretty much anything in media from the first drawings to MLP are warped versions of the real life things... While it is an instinct you should try getting closer to simpler insects such as Ants or Spiders and hold one for a while until your subconscious realizes that there's nothing to be afraid of, another less preferable option is to go out and kill lots of them until you understand how they are harmless. Both of these sound like afirly easy things to understand but to a primitive brain it is hard to process!
