Akame ga Kill! (literally meaning "Red Eye Killer" or "Akame Slashes!") is a Japanese shōnen manga series written by Takahiro and illustrated by Tetsuya Tashiro. It started serialization in Square Enix's Gangan Joker in March 2010. The story focuses on Tatsumi, a young villager who travels to the Capital to raise money for his home only to discover a strong corruption in the area. The assassin group Night Raid recruits the young man to help them in their fight against the Empire to finish its corruption. 

 

In January 2014, it's also been announced that an anime is due for serialization, with one of the latest editions of Gangan Joker announcing it is set to air in July 2014. Even more so than the second seasons of RWBY and Sword Art Online II, this is the series I'm most excited about. Here's the teaser trailer for a peek into what the animation may look like:

 

 

I wonder if anyone here has read the manga? For those who don't know, it's by far one of the darkest mangas I've ever read, and at some point you can even expect the author to pull a G.R.R. Martin and kill off a protagonist in a very horrific manner. I absolutely recommend the manga, and hopefully the anime will prove loyal :33
