Bliss had just about enough of being ignored and not taken seriously. With Atlas out of the cabin heading off 'alone' and Sidewinder and BB in the study, it was  just a clear slap of ignorance to her as well as not having any respect by them. "And why would they respect me," she quietly whispered to herself with a clear tone of depression, "I'm just a freak alicorn with big ears and a gryphon tail." Then abruptly BB came down the stairs heading to the kitchen. Within a few moments she came back holding a mug of coffee, acting like nothing was wrong or worth being on edge over.

 

Again her nostrials flaired up... BB was her primary suspect of being the top vampire...but knowing she couldn't just bluntly accuse her, and no pony would believe her, she put two and two together. Looks like I'm on my own...She stood up firmly at the earth pony, locking cyan eyes to her cocky pair...a clear hint that said 'I don't know what you're planning...but I'm on to you,' then abruptly headed towards the stairs.

 

"I'll be in my room..." She bluntly stated breaking eye contact, "don't bother knocking... It will be remained locked till my ride comes to get me in a few days... Be sure to spread that to others including Sidewinder. I will be 'chilling out' there." Snorting once more with her tail agitatedly flicking behind, she trotted up the stairs and galloped down the hall to her room, levitating the door open and slamming it shut behind her. She then proceeded as promised to lock the door tightly and went to her bags, packing them up as fast as her magic could muster it.

 

I could just leave now...She thought to herself as she continued to levitate her robs and capes into her saddle bags, I could probably make the trip if the tundra remains open and clear...But what about Seth? I can't just leave him here! Drat! Her options seemed limited...making her feel more trapped then ever. "Come on Blissy get it together," she told herself, "you've been in worse situations before...think dang it think!"

Atlas dug through the old books. He questioned why he was even reading this.

How to repel Vampires

All he had gathered so far was how to kill them. Decapitation, ripping their heart out, stabbing it with a silver weapon none of which he planned to do. The only other thing was the traditional garlic and if they ingest it they experience severe indigestion. The rest was just the ravings of a manpony.

Vampires

A simple title but it was a treasure trove of information. New vampires may experience awkward behavior as they adjust to their new body. They also have trouble concealing their features such as fangs extending without warning and eyes flashing red. Vampires have to feed at lest once a year to keep their strength up. Should they do this they can live for practically forever. However the effect stacks. If they gather large amounts of energy in a short time they won't have to feed for much longer. For about a month after a feed vampires have greater strength than other pony of their size. Vampires also have more energy and stamina than normal ponies. Finally a warning: vampires are everywhere. Chances are you know one. 

Atlas shivered at the last comment. The more he read the less it seemed fake a more a field of study. He wrote down the rest of his finding and went to test something. It was about midday and time for lunch. 

 

He trotted into the kitchen and dug into the pantry. 

"Bingo!" He pulled out a bag of garlic. He took one at and chopped it up as fast as he could. He pulled out all the bread loves in the kitchen. He put them all out along with lettuce, cheese, and other items of the sort as if he was setting up lunch for the group.  He then sprinkled all the new garlic power on the bread. If a vampire was in the house they would be in the bathroom after one bite. He made a sandwich and took it with him.

He trotted about the house a smile on his face.

"Lunch's ready!"

He continued though house until he came to Lighting Bliss's. He gently knocked. He had heard her about staying in her room. 

"It's Atlas. I brought you lunch... and I came to apologize for earlier"

Her ears twitched as she heard Atlas knock on her door. She vowed not to open it for anypony least if it was Seth...But her stomach was growling something horrible. Drat again... I didn't consider the obstacle of starving while being locked in my room, she snorted with frustration. "Ah...thanks Atlas... But I'm not coming out..." she called at the door to him, "since no pony wants to bother to hear my concerns, I'm staying locked in my room... But I'll...I'll teleport the food in if that's alright with you?"

 

She smiled realizing her magic was in fact coming in handy...but only one problem...she didn't know what the food was...She needed to have a clear idea of what it was otherwise she couldn't concentrate on it. "I...hate to be a loner or...inconsiderate of your efforts..." She added in, hoping she could get the information on what the food was fairly, "I just...I'm a bit nervous...twitchy...I just don't feel confident in coming out right now. Would you mind telling me what you made? That way I can teleport it in?"

Atlas looked over the sandwich.

"It's a sandwich. Average sized loaf. Cheese, lettuce, tomato, that sort of stuff. Sorry if any on it you don't like. I didn't know what you wanted. It's on a paper plate. You're not allergic to garlic, are you? Again, sorry for earlier. I should have listen to you more. If you don't mind me asking, what do you think Sidewinder was bitten by? I'll take anything. Let's just say I've picked up on some stuff that's... Strange" He bit his lip waiting for the answer that he knew he didn't want to hear.

She could smell the sandwich easily from behind the wooden door, a clear smell of garlic and tomato that made her mouth water. With little warning her horn began to glow and within seconds the sandwitch disappeared only to reappear next to her. She lifted it up and took a heaping bite, before answering Atlas.

 

"Strange...tuce say?" She swallowed, "of course it's strange... He's a vam-" she stopped herself then...remembering how her previous words weren't taken seriously the first time. "Um...Look... I got a good if not guarenteed suspicion I know what happened to Sidewinder...and even more so maybe with BB...But you wouldn't believe me if I told you so..." She sighed feeling like she was alone with her suspicions. "It's just I recongize his symtoms...I've seen it before...I would know...because... I used to have them too a few years ago..." She turned her back and sat down, pressing up against the door, feeling even more alone as she ate the sandwitch. "Me and Seth...we experienced those same symptoms that Sidewinder did...And through great pains and sacrifice, we were able to get rid of it with the help of more potent alicorn magic that I couldn't muster alone..." She turned and looked at the door then, pressing her horn against the wood in a need for him to believe in her, "We are in great danger Atlas..."

Atlas was quiet for a moment. He didn't want to blatantly just say "They're vampires!" His mind wouldn't let him. He needed find a more logical solution but it all pointed to vampires. He had seen some strange stuff and believe a good bit of legends but vampires? She was going to say vampires... And she had a solid case from what she said. No... Not yet. Only when he was positive would he revival his little investigation. If vampires were about any number of the guests could be one. Lighting Bliss was not below suspicion but Atlas trusted her more than Boom right now. A feeling of foreboding reproached.

"Yes. We may be in danger. If you need a weapon I've got a knife under my pillow. See you later" Atlas walked off in deep thought.

 

It was time. He a garlic and went to Boom's room. He slowly opened the door. She wasn't inside. Time to check it out but first he needed to do something. He sprinkled garlic power all over the bed. He began a full search of the room. Nothing in the bathroom. He put the last of the powder on her toothbrush. If she was a vampire she would have a hard time. Despite the garlic everywhere the room didn't smell of garlic. Yet. He needed to be fast. Under the bed? No. Closet? Yes. A jacket. The one she had yesterday. There was a burn mark on it. That wasn't there yesterday... He took note of it and kept searching.

With Bliss and Sidewinder receded in their rooms, and Seth being an apparent sleepy head or particularly talkative, Boom sighed before making her way down the hall to her own quarters. Her door was left open so she decided to just waltz on in. Upon entering she seen Atlas looking about over her belongings, and chose to lean against the door frame for a couple momemts.

 

"Help you with anything?" Badaboom asked formally, nothing hidden in her tone, as she took a sip of her now cooled coffee. Stepping in further she made her way over to her bed taking a spot on the end, not saying anything further. She knew exactly what he was doing, searching for evidence, but didn't lay into it.

Atlas looked up. 

"Well, shit..." He stared dumbly at her. He really should have locked the door. He went to grab his knife but he remembered he didn't bring it. "This is... Awkward. Lunch is ready. I'll be leaving now" He began to back toward the door his face still blank. This situation could be worse.

"What really? That's it?" Badaboom retorted a tab bit to urgently raising from her bed. Simultaneously as getting to her hooves she pulled her headphones back letting the sound of her music, as well as her ears free. "Not a..

 

'hey Boom, glad you like the coffee,

Oh and by the way, lunch is ready.

It's all my pleasure, don't be mistaken,

It's garlic, lettus, tomato, no bacon.'

 

I mean seriously.." Boom managed to hip-hop herself over to her BoomBox and switched it off, placing her headphones on top of it. This point Atlas was heading for the door. BB frowned a moment, then quickly replaced it with a devious grin. Marching rather quickly to be at his side she looked at him.

 

Badaboom's eyes told different than her expression. There was no malice, or foul play in them. They almost seemed innocent. "I'm sorry if I scared ya. I don't have a problem with visitors, ya know?" She asked stopping at the entrance to her room.

Atlas was uneasy as he walked with her toward the kitchen. She knew something... Something dark.

"Tell you what. Meet me in a few at the hill again where we found Sidewinder. Come alone" He branched off her to find Sidewinder. Atlas came to his door and knocked.

"Hey, Sidewinder. I need to talk to you"

Badaboom nodded to Atlas as he broke off, and arrived in the kitchen moments later. The mare made her way over to the plate of sandwiches and relieved one for herself. Taking a hefty bite she chewed it, getting all the flavors. A weak smile came over her face. Garlic, I knew it, she laughed in her head, before taking another bite.

 

Finishing up her mug of coffee Boom placed the cup near the sink. Grabbing a second sandwich she trotted from the room, and to the front door. She shot a glance to Seth, taking another generous bite of her "spiked" lunch, before pressing out into the bright outside.

 

The sun gave little physical irretance, though she wouldn't lie. It did annoy her eyes, especially reflecting off the white powder on the ground. Casting her vision to the tracks that lead to her room, she noticed an extra pair. "Heheh, whoops..coulda tried to be a little sneaker than that. No wonder he suspects me." Boom thought out loud, as she made her way from the cabin, and up the steps, back to the scean of the incident.

Atlas opened the door with a dead serious face. "If I'm not back here in an hour look for me. Got it? I'm going to talk to Boom" He shut the door before Sidewinder could respond if he had one. He went to his room. He grabbed his knife and strapped it to his leg. He put on his winter cloths but made sure the knife was in clear few for all to see. He grabbed some papers that he had written down his findings on and stuffed them into his pockets. He took a deep breath. He was going to find out what was going on one way or other. He just hopped his dark suspicions were wrong. He left the house and went to meet Boom.

He stood in front of her. His expression was dead serious. He wasn't in the mood for games.

"So... What happened last night? Lighting Bliss is freaking out, Sidewinder is acting irrational, and I'm on edge with a hunch. Give me the story"

Badaboom was looking up at the clear blue sky, letting the winter air blow its flurry of snow. Her mouth half stuffed with the last of her second sandwich, Boom heard Atlas walking up from behind. She turned to face him, and did her best to choke down her lunch quickly. Judging by the look on the pegasai's face, and the blade at his side, he was ready to go all out. Aww man, dah pony who woulda gone wit mountain snake. How's this one gunna play?

 

A thought crossed her mind, Boom definitely knew that Atlas was keeping closer tabs than anyone on her. Who knows how much he found while in her room? "So out wit it, beginning to end I assume? Not just a quick, We watched the lights dance among the stars. That's Sidewinder and I. How do I know what LB is freakin' over? I got outta bed...by you, if I'm not mistaken, and she's flippin' out over a bite mark on S-dubs neck." Boom paused a moment her face equally as serious, her main focus still the knife on his side.

 

"What's that for, a mountain snake?" She asked sarcastically through a frown. "Sidewinder is irrational probably from being delerious, sleep deprived, possible case of hypothermia (doubt it)" she coughed the extra comment. "You know as much as I on that one. If it truly is something venomous that bit him..he might be suffering from that." BB held her serious gaze on his. "And I can clearly see that your on edge. Anything else? Or ya gunna tell me yer hunch? Thanks for the lunch by the way." She through in the last part with a sting of disapproval in her voice.

Atlas rolled his eyes. "As much as I hate to say it some myths are true. You had quite an interesting way of coming back into the house last night: through the window. I talked to Lighting Bliss before this. Her idea is far fetched but... probably right. I did a check one Lighting Bliss earlier. He showed signs of a certain disease I'll bring up later. If you don't mind me asking, who's your dentist? Optometrist?" He began to circle her. (Too much theatrics?) "I did some reading up. Interesting stuff. I heard the price of silver was going up. And thanks. I made sure to put a lot of garlic in it. Oh, also mountain snakes aren't a thing. You won't believe what you can find in the snow. Lots of tracks. You can see if there was a scuffle. Or even some blood. Blood. That sounds awful good. Some warm blood" He took out his knife. "And fresh" He lower it to his leg. "A nice meal" He sliced. He grunted softly as a bit of blood dripped down his leg He extended toward her hoping she would take the bate. (Too much dramatics? Yeah, too much)

Boom couldn't help a smile make its way onto her face, as Atlas began to circle ranting his findings. That was until he drew his knife, recoiling slightly in defense her face went blank when she witnessed the Pegasus drug his knife along his own leg, tauntingly. "Uh-uh-uh, dude...y-your cutting yourself..." BB stuttered, feigning shock as she indicated to the obvious wound in Atlas's leg, as if he didn't know what he had just done.

 

"Heheh, s-sorry...I'm just having a little trouble being a smartass here, pardon the language." Boom had on a very false smile, it wasn't sarcastic though. More so the type where you have to literally force a grin. Stumbling backwards a bit she nervously looked back at him. "W-was there a serious question in there? Because, uh...your hunch really seems to be focused on me, and something that, Lightning Bliss said." She questioned, staring dumbly at his extended bloodied leg.

 

BB looked down the hill in the direction of the cabin. She had to admit Atlas caught her off guard with that display. Self mutilation, even ponies hunting for vampires didn't pull that one often.

"Yes, but at least I don't suck the blood out of living ponies" He hissed at her. "Come on, damn it! I'm onto you! I ought to put your head on a pike for what you've done! You damned too many ponies for me to let you get away with it!" He got into a defense stance realizing his ruse had failed. So what he had a small cut. He had taken arrows to the back. His blood dripped down his leg into the snow. Maybe he had cut a bit harder than he thought...

"V-vampires?" Boom questioned openly, but a hint of disbelief was caught in her voice. "Vampires? Is that what your trying to get at? Is that what Lightning Bliss said?" Badaboom ran off the questions implying innocence rather convincingly. "I knew that's what the garlic was for, haha. But I thought you only did it to be funny, you know lighten the mood."

 

It was hard to work on the spot around Atlas, but Boom soon smiled cunningly. However it was short lived as the Pegasus got into a defensive ready position. "Your really blaming me though?" She quivered her lower lip and widened her eyes. "Did you know werewolves don't have a shadow? Cut first ask questions later?" B-Box got into a defensive position of her own, however it was more of a ready to sprint posture. "Did Sidewinder eat any of your sandwiches?" She questioned, mind void of other delays.

"No I didn't. I know a werewolf. Hunter. Prefers not to get his meat from ponies. He fishes instead. I'll bring it up next time I see him" He dug his hooves in. He had a traditional fencing stance. He could easily block and jump back if needed.

"No. I don't know if he ate any of the sandwiches. But now for more pressing matters. You have two options. One: I rip your heart out here and be done with it. Two: We can go back to the cabin and we can say this never happened. Sidewinder was bitten by a rare breed of snake. I got a cut from falling on a sharp rock. All the research I've been doing was for my next expedition. You left just before Sidewinder was bitten. All this garlic was a childish prank. We go on like we never meet. I don't want to take more life than I already have" His words dropped at the last comment tugging at his past. "Your pick. Either way I plan to live without guilt of this event"

After finishing her sandwich and making her bed, Bliss took it upon herself knowing she was gonna be stuck in her room awhile till her vacation was up. She had setup herself curled up tightly on her bed, hiding under her favorite brown hood and cape, hoping and waiting she would be visited by Seth soon as he woke up. Abruptly her large ears perked up, throwing her hood off her head, making her jump in reflex. She felt like a zebra in africa being surrounded by a pride of lions, every little sound made her jumpy. Then quickly she focused herself and realized the sounds were muffled voices going on outside, just a few yards out from her upstairs window. Taking a breath, she slid off her bed, and went to the window, only to realize to her horror...it was Atlas, standing off against her primary suspect...Boom...

 

"Oh no...no...does he not realize what he's up against??" She asked before slapping her cheek at the idiocy of her question, "why would he know what he's up against! He probably doesn't fully believe in vampires! Or...what if he does? Isn't that why he's got a knife out and standing out there ready to fight?" She paced back and forth as she started at the two ponies talking to each other firmly back and forth. "Vampires have superior strength you crazy stallion...why would you risk yourself like that!? GAH come on Bliss think...you can't just leave him out there...But... I can't just go out there and hope that intimidates Boom...What if...What if Sidewinder were to show?"

 

Her pacing picked up more and more as she stood by and watched the poltential threating acts play in front of her. The more she watched...the more her guilt built up inside her stomach...watching the pegasus stallion facing off against something she herself has fought once before. "He needs you out there Bliss...if...if Boom is a vampire...two ponies against her may throw her off a little..." She took a deep breath coming to terms in that thought...but she knew Seth wouldn't allow her to take such risks... "I'm no better then any other pony...and right now he needs me..." She took another deep breath and unhooked her window seal, unlocking it entirely, "just play it cool..."

 

She leapt out her window and fluttered down to Atlas' side, placing a hoof on his shoulder confidently before throwing up her own act. "Is there a problem here...Atlas and Boom?" Bliss spoke up firmly, not giving any tone of fear, but firm and bluntess, more like she were irritated for getting involved then anything, "do we really need to start a fight after what happened to Sidewinder? So I overreacted a bit..  I'm sorry for that, it's just I find it unlikely a mountain snake would be up here when there are no such things," she winked at Atlas some, trying to give mixed emotions, one that could meant 'you seriously thought it was a mountain snake?' to it easily could have been 'don't worry I got your back'.

 

"Atlas you cut your leg...how did that happen? Boom?" She darted back and forth at them, "Gah...Come on you two let's get inside it's freezing. I think there's a first aid kit in the kitchen." She let got of Atlas shoulder and turned towards the cabin, taking in a deep breath and hoping her act was working, before turning back to them mockingly, "unless you two want to fight in the snow like babies?"

 

Come on Atlas...dont' fight her, she prayed in her head, she's out of our league...we need a plan...

Badaboom stood blankly not sure how to react to the offer given by the Pegasus. Obviously the second choice was what she would answer if she were going to, but that wouldn't help prove her innocence in the slightest. Then again having one's heart ripped clear from their chest didn't at all seem welcoming either. Her expression a mix of fear, confusion, and intrigue, hadn't shifted. "Option B? I suppose...disappointing though. Truly I thought we were going to be fri-"

 

The mare cut herself off as Lightning Bliss swept down from her window, taking a place next to Atlas. Boom's frown intensified when Bliss moved to the subject of the stallion's injured leg. "Heh, more accusations?" She replied, hurt, by the way the alicorn had presented the question. "He tripped on a rock...on his way up..I guess." She did reply to the question, but immediately turned her back on the pair.

 

"You guys go, don't really want anything to do with either of you two, right now..." BB trailed off with a false sniffle, her head slouched down in a depressive position. With her last stament announced she didn't look back, simply waiting to hear their hoofsteps in the snow. She hoped back to the cabin, rather than trying to persist her to spill something.

"Good. Lighting Bliss, can you do me a favor and go get the first aid kit. I have a little more to say to Boom... Just one more thing" His blood seeped out of his leg staining the snow below him. He cut a bit too deep. He just glared at Boom as he waited for Lighting Bliss to leave.
