RrVPfX9cPtw59FpC 1,304 May 25, 2014 Share May 25, 2014 Howdy there. I just had an idea. It's not something that I really wish would happen, but I thought it might be interesting. A lot of people here are banned. For some, it's for breaking real life laws and almost causing suicides. For others, it's for doing things against the rules that make almost the entire forum hate them. For some, it's for doing a lot of small rule breaking, such as posting off topic. My thought was, instead of having a permanent ban for the third (Or maybe even the second), there could be a five to ten year suspension. It's a lot like a ban for most, but unlike a week or month suspension, it allows for change. Yeah, nine tenths of the time, they'll have forgotten about this forum in five to ten years. It's not even been in existence that long. Most of the one tenth remaining would probably still be the same person, and only get themselves banned five minutes after becoming unbanned. However, there is a small percentage, even one, that I feel could change. I wouldn't be hurt if this is completely ignored. Truly. It's not something that's really bothering me, just something that I thought was a neat idea If this is locked, which is fine, but you want to talk to me about it, anyone, just shoot me a message. I always check at least three times a day, usually at least twenty. Anywho, just an idea. Lightwing 12,974 May 25, 2014 Share May 25, 2014 (edited) Well,5/10 years ban is too much :/ But it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a more...I don't know the correct word...open(?) ban system Reading through the rules from this forum,i noticed that there's a big difference between the 800 Warning Points(1 week ban) and the 1000 points(Permaban). That part of the ban system is disbalanced, and can be very harmful for those who are at the border of the permaban. I admit that there're rhings that yes, they can only be resolved with a permaban(per example, breaking real life laws,or death warnings between members),but from 1 week to the permaban is too much :v One idea would be to change the permaban at 1000 points to,per example,a month ban. When they get unbanned, the points will be at 900,according to the Warning Ponits decrease. If they make another bad things, that time will be 2 months, and then, start again at 900 Warning Points. The scale can increase to 3 months,6 months,or even a year. But if you manage to get banned that number of times, the next is the definitive permaban. That system would allow meanie members to learn their lesson,or maybe not..But it can't be proved without trying it at least.Maybe it would help to reform some meanie members on the future. It's just an idea that rounded my mind lately... Pastel 7,630 May 25, 2014 Share May 25, 2014 I agree that between 1 week and forever, there's a huge difference. A month can be the last step before the permaban. But when someone has over 1,000 warning points, a permaban is generally warranted.
boiteporte 591 May 25, 2014 Share May 25, 2014 (edited) On one of the forums I take part in, they have 2 types of ban. A month and then permaban (although the permaban may be cancelled after 6 months by the admins if they feel like it). And I think that this is the right way to do. 5/10 years ban is too much. A really long ban instead of a permaban. 2 This signature was removed for being too obnoxious and arrogant. -Makusu2 By the way, if you're talking to me in a thread, please quote my previous post. Carbon Maestro 1,003 May 25, 2014 Share May 25, 2014 Still, 5 years is too long. It has to be maybe something like a month and then a year after that week long ban. Guest90210 3,568 May 26, 2014 Share May 26, 2014 In 5 years, who knows if this forum will even be around, or if it is around what the activity level will be. By then, I'm sure most banned members will have forgotten about this site, won't care at that point, or have made a new account. So a permanent ban is practically the same as a 5-10 year ban
Khaoios 1,970 May 26, 2014 Share May 26, 2014 Whoa........5 or 10 year ban is a little too much, tbh. I could suggest this, but I tend to think a little differently, b/c I go by "strikes" 7 Suspension System (I call it the 7 Forum Sins) 1 offense - Warning via PM 2 offense - 24 hours suspension 3 offense - 48 hours suspension 4 offense - 1 week suspension 5 offense - 2 week suspension 6 offense - 1 month suspension 7 offense - 6 month suspension Perma-Bans - this one, I take to higher measures, for when I catch cases of: Cyber-Bullying (I see it all the time, but this is more of harassing fellow members) Spam (Pornography) Racism/Hatred (This includes your ethnicity and your sexuality) Hack and Tampering (I dealt with individuals like this and those are ones who come back "with a vengeance" if they were ban on that specific forum) Now, in these cases, I consider then automatic Perma-ban b/c since this is an "entertainment/friendly" forum, we are all need to be respectful, courteous, and accept other people the way they are. Even though, im not part of this staff, I usually like to go around and keep a close watch on new/veteran members making posts, b/c sometimes there maybe one individual along the way who would say something to upset the other user. And those type of users are the ones who like the "spark" the trouble, and yes, they will be times were someone will act like a complete jack-of-shit which would leave the victim hurt and helpless. As an example of "cyber-bully", that individual should be perma-banned for that type of act. 3 XBL: Riot Rojas 3DS Friend Code: 5300 - 9568 - 7902 WEB/CHANNEL: THREADS: Youtube - ThunderColt Studios MLP:FIM - Wrath of the Ancients Fan Fictions Weebly - ThunderColt Studios MLP:FIM: The Day Equestria Stood Still - Volunteers Wanted

Shanks 10,816 May 26, 2014 Share May 26, 2014 I understand what you are saying. but 5 years might as well be a perma ban if we are going to have long suspensions instead of outright bans in certain situations I think a maybe 2-4 months or so would be a bit more realistic. Though if someone is continually causing problems and not correcting their own behavior after getting to the point where they are getting suspensions than I don't think they belong here in the first place. I agree that 5-10 years is a bit much, but it's better than forever. Nah.....you may have brought up a point, which was a little too extreme, . However, I think it gave most of us an opinion on how the suspension system should work, to be much more fair, in a way. I'm not saying that your 5 to 10 year ban is bad (thats like prison sentence), but instead of 5 to 10 years, why not 5 to 10 months. It would give the "suspended member" a time to reflect on what he/she did so by the time their suspension is lifted, they would come back as a a member seeking "redemption", in a way. Yellow Diamond 7,574 May 26, 2014 Share May 26, 2014 In all honesty, I suspect there would be little immediate psychological difference between a 5-10 year ban and a permanent ban. Five years is an eternity on the internet; ten years would effectively guarantee the same results as a permanent ban. More importantly, however, we must weigh the function of a permanent ban versus an extensive ban. In almost every case, a permanent ban is exercised because a member has violated the rules and proven themselves either a threat or disturbance to the community. It is an unequivocal cutting of ties between that member. I like to think of myself as fairly lenient, but most folks who receive permanent bans have done enough to guarantee any positive action on their part is unlikely to come close to matching or exceeding the damage they have caused. One should also consider the type of organizational problems long-term temporary bans might create: accounts that were effectively banned for good would suddenly be active; we'd have to track and monitor those accounts to make sure there wasn't any monkey business. All in all, if we were to enforce a decade-long ban, I'm fairly certain members would eventually ask why we don't just outright permanently ban accounts. 6 Domine, tu omnia nosti, tu scis quia amo te. SCS 7,537 June 10, 2014 Share June 10, 2014 I agree with spoon on this one. In all honesty, the kind of people we'd have to ban for so long are the kind of people who shouldn't stay in the community at all. We have numerous smaller penalties that we always try before going straight for a permanent ban, aside from special situations involving duplicate accounts or obvious trolls. We PM people, warn people, suspend people, and restrict their posting and/or status update privileges as needed before going for a ban. Anyone who is banned (aside from obvious trolls and duplicate accounts) has been given multiple chances to improve their behavior. If someone continues to break the rules after that, they are very well aware that what they are doing is wrong, and they simply don't care. I don't see why we should allow those people to return to the community at all. I'm all for giving people second chances, but there is a line that must be drawn in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
Sky Cutter 294 June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 oh my gosh your all stupid, you should go jump in a volcano, no one loves you, you'll all die of [insert horrible disease here] and you will never amount to anything in life because your dumb. oh and [insert something about your mother here]. this is perma-ban material here^ yeah 5-10 years is too long, it might work IRL for like if you commit a crime, but on the internet it's different, prisoners can get along fine for 5 years without leaving a building, but if you were suddenly cut off from technology for five let alone 10 years, I can almost guarantee you will go insane.
