It's true. I don't understand it. Honestly, I don't even like her all that much, and that says alot considering the only other character I really don't like is Twist.

I think it's because people were excited on how the show included a character they named themselves, really. But she isn't really an interesting character beyond her eyes.

There was already a lot of (undeserved) hype even before that. Derpy, Vinyl Scratch, Luna (before Luna Eclipsed), Lyra...this fandom just seems to like overhyping characters.

Personally, I think a character should actually do something that makes them stand out to justify lots of hype, rather than becoming popular because of their design.

She was the first time that I have ever seen a TV show producer take feedback from a community and then use it. She was initially a mistake and then became a recurring character with an actual name. For me it's not the character, it's what the character symbolizes.

I'm not sure whether to be jealous of you, and the fact that your life is so devoid of problems that the biggest issue is that a cartoon character receives too much attentino for you liking, or be sad that you have horrendously mis-prioritised your life.

He was just asking a question about it. This is not drama starting at all. In fact, your post is just asking for negative responses.

You know… When I 1st joined this site I asked the same question in the chat room that we had back then. I actually thought that the reason the character was so well loved was because there was some episode or something that I had missed. I was then called a newb by Princess Ariona and others.

They then, very helpfully, explained to me that this is something that fandoms do. They take random extra characters with no screen time and obsess over them. There is really no logic or reasoning behind. At least none that can be understood by those that are not in the know.

Dude, we are having this discussion on a forum with over 700,000 posts that are mostly dedicated to a show called “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic”. There is an intense irony in telling someone that no one cares about topics like this on such a site.

Besides, he is not the only one that cares about this. I care about this too. As a matter of fact, I care quite a bit. You see, on MLP forums, ponies are serious and legit business.

Ah yes, one more thing. You don't even know my life, or the things I face. Anyway, my answer is simple. People like glitches. Some of the most memorable things in the Internet community are things related to glitches or other slip ups. Like the shotty "All Your Base" English Translation, "Missingno" from Pokemon, and many others.

Derpy was just a simple flash animation glitch that people noticed and fell in love with. Personally I think Cyclops Pony is a much better glitch but oh well.

And after Season 2 Derpy has pretty much been the fandom mascot.

Is the love deserved? Not really. In fact animation glitches should technically be frowned upon by a show known for its high quality animation, but alas Derpy stays.
