      I think that's kind of intentional now; once they realized that they could make it basically be "another dub" as well as a comedic one, they started to try and temper the jokes with intermittent serious and funny moments. Like 16's fight against cell for example.

       

      Honestly, DBZ had alot of jokes in it originally due to being a shonen series, so its pretty true to the spirit of the show currently IMO, they do a great job balancing things.
