Whether it be because they have the worst english ever, can't seem to speak properly, are more annoying than Moe the Clown's laughter, or just aren't very interesting characters, there are always "those" characters in the Phoenix Wright series you wish you never had the misfortune to speak to(I'm only putting people from the first 3 games since they're the only ones I've played)

    Wendy Oldbag

Always makes things a chore for you to do. Likely due to the fact that her favorite movie stars always wind up dead, but for some reason she likes taking it out on you specifically. The only reason she's low on the list is because even when she pisses me off, her old lady banter sometimes will crack a smile out of me.

Also seeing her hit on Edgeworth is scary

Probably one of the creepiest characters in the series. He's also the reason why I hate internet slang. Seriously how did this guy get to be a director(then again with people like Uwe Boll and Michael Bay in real life, it probably isn't surprising)

    Lotta Hart

She intentionally makes things difficult for you just to be famous. And what's worse is that she kept showing up everywhere

    Honorable Mentions:
Everyone else from Turnabout Big Top - Didn't put them in because they'd make up most of the list
Angel Starr - A Grade-A bitch. I was contemplating, but decided against it since she still managed to get a decent backstory
Furio Tigre - See Angel Starr
April May - Averted because boobs

3rd Party characters have always been an...interesting subject to say the least when it comes to Super Smash Bros; ever since Solid Snake's Introduction in Super Smash Bros Brawl, people have been speculating and giving their thoughts on what 3rd Party characters they would want to see, ranging anywhere from Banjo-Kazooie to Sgt Cortez of Timesplitters, to Master Chief, to F***ing James Bond, and with Megaman's introduction in the new game, discussion has sparked once again. In this blog, I give my personal opinion on what 3rd parties I'd be interested in seeing(a lot of bias, so don't take this to heart). I'd also like to point out that I don't expect all of these characters to appear, only about 2-3.

Since It's opinionated, I'll throw in a few things:
    - One per franchise: So no Knuckles, Raiden, Protoman, etc.
    - I'll still have more characters per company: So I'll still throw in some characters if they still belong to Sega or Capcom for example
    - Have to have had appeared on a Nintendo console as a major character in that game(so no Cloud, Morrigan, etc.)
    - No Sony or Microsoft characters(so no Rare unfortunately, even though Banjo & Kazooie and Ratchet & Clank would rock)
    - I originally was going to include Pac-Man, but at this point he's probably already in the game
    - No Movie, Comic, TV, Cartoon, or Anime(just because it's Namco Bandai doesn't mean anything) characters.....however, I am willing to make one exception

    10) Wreck-It Ralph

    From: Wreck-It Ralph

I know about what I said earlier about "No movie characters" and whatnot, but Ralph just feels so perfect. In what could be taken as "The Roger Rabbit of Video games" and as the ultimate Video Game movie, Ralph blends really well with the Nintendo casts especially after appearing alongside the likes of Bowser. And after making a guest appearance on "Sonic Sega All-Stars Racing: Transformed", I feel like anything is possible.

    9) NiGHTS

From: NiGHTS into Dreams and NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

With Sega and Nintendo's new deal, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sonic back, and while I also expect some of his friends to appear, I'd be more satisfying with someone more unique, like NiGHTS. NiGHTS has a certain appeal that, for some reason, reminds me quite a bit of Super Mario Galaxy, and the series's long awaited sequel for the Wii certainly helped that . And while the sequel certainly isn't as popular as the original game, NiGHTS has a lot of appeal and demand that could help push for a spot on the Roster

    8) Klonoa

From: Klonoa Wii, Moonlight Museum, Empire of Dreams, Dream Champ Tournament, Densetsu no Star Medal

First off, the guy looks like Mascot Material, which means he goes well with the characters like Mario, Sonic, Megaman, etc. He has also been given some exposure on Nintendo's platforms through various 2D platformers on the Gameboy Advance as well as a ground-up remake on the Wii, the only reason he's much lower on the list is because he's a very obscure character(though having more games than NiGHTS puts him higher)

    7) Viewtiful Joe

From: Viewtiful Joe, Viewtiful Joe 2, Red Hot Rumble, Double Trouble
Along with Megaman, Viewtiful Joe is also popular among many Nintendo fans, with his franchise kicking off on the Gamecube. His zaniness and goofiness makes him a popular fit in the Smash roster, and both Tatsunoko Vs Capcom and MvC3 both help mold him into a strong fighter along with his own series, using time based attacks that could help him take the advantage. Nintendo's recent alliegence with Platinum games also makes him a good contender for the roster(though the decision is ultimately up to Capcom

    6) Sora

From: Kingdom Hearts series(mainly Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, Re:Coded, Dream Drop Distance)
Not gonna lie, at first I was never a fan of having the guy in Smash, but seeing him gain more titles on Nintendo's handhelds and seeing the Nintendo fans on the Kingdom Hearts Fandom grow, I began to accept him and even embrace him. It's hard for me to deny that it would be awesome to see him fight alongside the likes of Link and Marth. It would also be nice to see him show up in the game alongside the announcement of a Kingdom Hearts III Wii U port(why that game is on the Xbone and not the Wii U, I will never know). Though truth be told, having to make a deal with both Disney and Squeenix would be a bitch.

    5) A Final Fantasy Character

    From: Too damn many games
One thing that always bugged me about SSB character spectulation was the absolutely absurd idea of using a character from a(albeit good) Mario Spin-off*coughGenocough* over a character from Square's flagship franchise. Before Final Fantasy VII, the popular JRPG franchise was one of the NES and SNES's top dogs, and there has been plenty of fans clamoring for a Square Enix rep, and what better way than to use a character from their top franchise? Though the problem is deciding which character to use, with suggestions ranging from generic classes like Black Mages and Warriors, to Moogles, to Cloud Strife. In my opinion, I feel Cecil from Final Fantasy IV(which seems to be Square's favorite game besides VII and XIII) and Terra from FFVI(which seems to be the fans favorites), though I'm leaning towards Terra do to the potential of another Magic heavy character

    4) Lloyd Irving
From: Tales of Symphonia, Dawn of the New World
The main character of one of the popular games in the Tales franchise, one of the few RPGs on the Gamecube, best selling Tales game in the West, the list goes on. While the Tales series is one of Namco's most popular franchises in Japan, the series didn't get any recognition in America until they teamed up with Nintendo to make this game a huge success. Like Sora, I've also wanted to see him team up with Link to kick some ass

    3) Phoenix Wright

    From: The Ace Attorney series
Since his introduction on the GBA in Japan and the DS in the US, Phoenix Wright has become one of the most popular Capcom characters yet, with many people shouting his famous "OBJECTION!" and "HOLD IT!" all over the internet. And while it does seem ridiculous for a Lawyer to be in a fighting game, Capcom already did that in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, with hilarious results.

    2) Simon Belmont

    From: Castlevania series
As a massive MGS fan, I have to face the facts, unless by some miracle Phantom Pain and Ground Zero end up on the Wii U(which would be freatly appreciated by the way), there's very little reason for him to come back. However, I could se him passing the torch to Simon Belmont of the Castlevania series. As one of the most brutal platformers of the NES and SNES era, Simon bring some whipping action(well that didn't sound right at all) to the fight, and his high nostalgic value is very welcome among many fans, myself included.

And now this is where my biased fanboyism kicks in

    1) Travis Touchdown
From: No More Heroes, Desparate Struggle
If you know me well enough, you probably saw this coming light years away. But yeah, Travis would be both hilarious and awesome to see. His realistic appearance makes him look like an intimidating character, but behind that is a goofy and zany assassin who's in it to win it. His swordplay mixed with professional wrestling moves also makes him look like a very strong and intersting fighter. Plus if he does get in, it would definitely help raise my spirits for a No More Heroes 3

    Honorable mentions:
    Banjo and Kazooie
    Bomberman
    Rayman
    Earthworm Jim
    Ryu(Street Fighter)
    Ryu Hyabusa(Ninja Gaiden)
    Leon S Kennedy(Resident Evil)

The characters mentioned above are here because I a) never played much of their games, never got interested in them, or c) the characters on my list were just more appealing to me. However, I do acknowledge these characters as highly important in the Nintendo community and would still love to see them in the game, despite personal preferences.

Now let the hate comments commence

For how long The Simpsons has ran on TV, you'd expect them to churn out a bunch of games. And they did, and unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, a lot of them turned out to be crap, with only a small handful of games worth trying. The Simpsons Hit & Run is part of that weird era from 2000-2007 where they try to parody what ever was popular at the time before going all out with The Simpsons Game. We had Simpsons Wrestling(an awful parody of Wrestling games), Simpsons Skateboarding(an awful parody of Tony Hawk games), Simpsons Road Rage(a so-so, blatantly plagiarized version of Crazy Taxi), and then there's this game, The Simpsons Hit & Run, which is a parody of the Grand Theft Auto series. However, this time around, unlike the previously mentioned games, Hit & Run copies all of the right things about GTA and makes for a very fun experience.

    Simpsosn Hit & Run(2003)
Developed by Radical Entertainment, published by Vivendi Universal
    For PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/PC

    Story

A new flavor of Buzz Cola is introduced into Springfield, advertised by Krusty the Klown, and becomes the hot new thing in Springfield, however, as the story progresses, it becomes more apparent that the Cola has a dark secret. Meanwhile strange Black Vans(which turn out to be bogus), and Wasp-Surveillance Cameras(which are legit) begin showing up around town. The story revolves around the Simpsons family and Apu where they must uncover the secrets of the new Buzz Cola.

Story is fun to follow and does a good service to the Simpsons franchise, as the story was penned by the show's writers themselves. The writing is funny and the casts consists of most of the show's favorites. Also Mr. Burns isn't the villain in this, which is a very huge plus, in fact, he becomes crucial to saving the town later on.

The game consists of 7 levels, each with 8 missions. Each level has it's own story to follow while also adding to the game's overall plot as more is shown as the game progresses.

    Gameplay

As said earlier, the game is a parody of the Grand Theft Auto series, just without all of the violence. However, that does not mean the game isn't fun to play. On the contrary it's a blast. Each level is a sandbox of a certain area of Springfield each full of tons of things to do, whether it be exploring, doing missions, finding collectibles, or racing. The game also has a ton of cars that we've seen in the show and a few that are exclusive to the game, each of them having certain stats that make them useful in certain missions and situations, and the driving mechanics work very well this time around(as opposed to Road Rage). You can also repair your vehicles whenever it's damaged. Destroying your vehicles also causes you to lose coins, but only about 10 every time. One annoying thing about the game, and this goes for both ground and driving sections, is that the camera can be pretty cumbersome, most of the time it's fine, but there are some areas in the game where the camera loves to hang in the worst angle and not let you adjust.

The maps usually have tons of things to do, such as looking for 7 collectible cards, which unlocks a multiplayer race for each level(these aren't very fun). Collecting all of them in the entire game unlocks an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon, which is pretty funny. Each card is actually cleverly hidden and is usually in a place the card is relevant to. Bonus missions has you helping a character do some sort of task for them and finishing the mission unlocks a new car for you to use. Two other ways to get new cars is buying them either from Ol' Gil or a certain character that you can buy them from(as these are usually required). The other is by doing races, where you must take part of a race and win, which usually include the Checkpoint Race(ran by Ralph Wiggum), the Circuit Race(ran by Nelson), and the Time Trial(ran by Milhouse), and winning these unlocks a new car, which is usually the best car to use in the level. There's also a 4th race, the Wager Race, which usually involves you putting in some coins to bet on, and if you can win the race, your prize is usually double of what you bet. There's also costumes to buy, which we've seen the characters wear in the show, which includes Donut Head Homer, Officer Marge, Cool Lisa, Bartman, and so on. Gags are also scattered throughout each level, and gags are usually references to items we've seen in the show. And lastly, there are the wasp cameras, 20 of these are usually scattered through each town, and it isn't much fun, as some of them require you to go out of your way to find them. It's not too hard, but difficult enough to 100% the game, but it's usually worth it as doing so allows you to use the "all car cheat", which allows you to use every single vehicle in the game, including a few story cars that normally aren't able to use. Lastly there's the Hit & Run meter, which usually fills up when ever you do felonies, like destroying property, hitting other people/cars, and etc. Filling it up completely will get the cops after you, though it's of little consequence. The worst you get is a 50 Coin fine(which isn't much considering how easy they are to get), and maybe make you restart your mission because it messed you up.

There are several types of missions in this game, ranging from racing, collecting items, reaching an area within a time frame, destroying other cars, avoiding enemy cars, and etc. Some missions like to mix these objectives to allow for more variety. The only issue with these is that most of these missions are timed, which may be annoying for some, and at times can be frustrating, but the missions are doable within the given timeframe. Some missions may require you to use a certain vehicle or outfit to use, giving them some importance to the game. Also, much like Road Rage, you can skip missions if you fail them enough. Unlike that game however, you can't skip important missions and skipped missions aren't counted as completed

    Graphics

The town of Springfield is well crafted in the 3D world. Tons of recognizable locations in the Simpsons are faithfully recreated in the game, and very hidden details and references to the show are scattered throughout each level and are plentiful, fans can recognize them very well and says a lot about the game's detail. However, the character models can be a bit off-putting, though not terrible like past Simpsons games like Road Rage and Skateboarding, as well as the game's beta build. This, like most other cartoons inspired games, though could probably benefit more from a bit of cel-shading like The Simpsons Game(2007) did, which is still the best looking game in the series.

    Sound/Music

No cheap imitations here, every character in the game is voiced by their respective voice actors, and unsurprisingly the do a great job at it. There's a ton of great dialogue in this game as opposed to Road Rage which relied mostly on unfunny one-liners, and some of the one-liners here usually generate a good laugh. The game also boasts a great soundtrack, and one I feel doesn't get enough love. Each character has music that fit's them, like Homer usually gets the traditional Simpsons style music plus a big tuba, Bart's levels have a bigger emphasis on rock music, Lisa is Jazz, Marge is classy and Apu is Indian. The overall OST is much more memorable than Road Rage's and is one of my personal favorites.

    Overall
    +Great controls
    +Springfield
    +Variety
    +Great music
    +References galore
    +Fun Story and characters
    -Time limit can be frustrating
    -Wasp Cameras
-Character models are a bit off-putting
    -Annoying camera in places

This is one of the best Simpsons games, best cartoon-licensed games, and one of the better GTA clones out there. This is a game I can recommend easily to both fans and non fans alike. It's a little on the pricey side as there's been more demand for it, though it's usually around $20, but it's definitely worth it
  5. Megas
There was a point in time(between 2001 to 2007) where the Simpsons began churning out a few games that were very unsubtle rip-offs/clones of other very successful and popular games at the time(like wrestling games, Tony Hawk, GTA, etc.) with mixed results to say the least, ranging from great, like Hit & Run and The Simpsons Game(2007), to outright abysmal like The Simpsons Skateboarding and Wrestling. The Simpsons Road Rage is very different on the other hand, it's easily the least subtle rip-off of the bunch. Is it a gem like Hit & Run, or a car crash like Wrestling? Let's find out

    The Simpsons Road Rage
    Platforms: PS2, Xbox, Gamecube

    Story

The story is, erm, underwhelming to say the least, though pretty par the course for Simpsons games. Mr. Burns buys out the Bus Transportation Systems in Springfield, and replaces the buses with ones that run on nuclear power. And this is obviously a threat to public health, so the Simpsons and a few other members of Springfield ban together to raise money($1 million) to buy it back from Burns. Of course, one has to wonder how $1 million is enough to change Burns' mind considering he's a billionaire. And to go along with that, the delivery isn't very interesting or funny enough to be invested in it, not to mention Burns' motivation for buying the transportation system is never explained.

    Gameplay

If you're already aware of the game Crazy Taxi, then you already know what the game plays like. You drive around 6 different levels of Springfield picking up different locals an take them to the destinations in a certain amount of time, and the amount of money you receive from the passenger depending on how fast they get there. The more money you raise the more characters and locations you can unlock.

There are 6 locations of Springfield, consisting of the usual spots like Moe's, the Kwiki-Mart, or the Android Dungeon, to more obscure places fans will recognize like Springfield Gorge or The Box Factory, and the places characters are either places they normally visit or places they've visited in past episodes sometimes with a a quote related to that episode. There are also 17 playable characters to choose from(including 3 versions of Homer). There is also a Sunday Drive mode with is more or less a "Practice Mode" which is mostly just for you to explore different locations, looking for shortcuts that can benefit you in the main game, there is also no time limit or money earned, so you don't have to worry about any penalties. Lastly there is a Mission Mode where you play missions with certain stipulations and finishing them all gets you a reward, The Car Built For Homer. There's also a multiplayer mode where you race against another player to get your passengers quicker.

Overall, the gameplay, while not awful, is not amazing and gets old quickly. The cars themselves drive very quickly and turn quickly, though perhaps to quickly, there are many moments where you take a corner to quick and lose your path and must recover often wasting time. There's also some very sketchy hitboxes between cars, items, and buildings, as there are many times where a small piece of debris can get you stuck and you must mess with your car or reset your position to get out of it, same with buildings, as hitting corners can also get you stuck. Raising money's not very difficult, as in each playthrough you can get a good $10000 if your quick enough, and it's not very difficult to master either. Thus the easy difficulty makes it very tedious. There's also the lackluster mission mode, no clever mission, with all of them consisting of you hit X amount of Y in Z amount of time. Only three levels really take advantage of the game's main gimmick. The mission's aren't very hard either, as you have enough time to complete them and there's usually an infinite amount of items to destroy, and whether you accomplish them depends on where you are if you're in a lucky place. The absolute worst mission is Lisa's mission, which consists of her destroying groups of tree's in a small amount of time, and unlike the other mission's there's a finite amount of logs to destroy as well as a fork in the road, with both roads containing a group of logs, and there just isn't enough time to get through the other fork and is near impossible to make. I swear no matter how I approached the level I could never find away to complete it in time. Then there's also the fact that if you lose/restart a mission enough times you can skip it completely and move on to the next one, and unlike The Simpsons Hit & Run, these DO count as a completed mission, thus making doing these missions a waste of time.

There's also the problem with the characters, they all feel the same. Some exceptions like Mr Plow, Plow King, and the Canyonero are mainly due to their size, and cars like the Hover Car, Apu's Sports Car, and the L'il Bandit due to being sports cars/high tech, but even then the differences are negligible, especially once you get going.

    Visuals

As you can see, the game doesn't look very good. While not awful, the game could look better, character models look very strange and, at least for the year the game was released, it still could look better. The buildings also have very saturated colors, as a lot of them look a lot darker than their TV show counterparts. Also, why is the Simpsons house red? On the bright side, the vehicles look great, while some of them do have saturated colors, it's no where near as bad as the buildings, and they really benefit from a bit of cel-shading.

    Audio/Music

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZLCbPlUaoo

The Simpsons usually relies on humor, dialogue and jokes for its main source of entertainment. Unfortunately very little bit of it is there, as 90% of the time they just throw out one-liners that get old and annoying quickly. There are some funny exchanges between certain characters(which happen rarely unfortunately), or towards the locations they're attending, but both of these are very rare and not really worth sitting through everything else. The music is really nothing special either, there is a nice jazz tune played during Sunday Drive, but otherwise the OST is pretty uninspired and forgettable.

    Summary
+ A lot of playable characters
    + Easy to start
+ Some funny jokes here and there
+ Some decent fanservice and with lots of locations to see
    - But gets dull very quick
    - lackluster visuals
    - Lots of annoying one-liners
    - Little to no diversity between characters
    - Weak multiplayer
    - Weak Story
    - Awful Mission mode

Overall, to reiterate, the game isn't awful, it's playable and can be fun in short bursts. But as I've repeated, it gets old very quickly, there's not enough diversity between the characters, and while the levels can be interesting, it can't carry the game. The mission mode is also a complete waste of time and the story just isn't interesting enough to care. I can really only recommend it to Simpsons fans who might enjoy some of the dialogue/jokes and the references, but even then it won't keep their attention for long.

Back since the franchise was first created, Transformers and video games never meshed as well as it should have. Despite a few great games here and there, such as the two Cybertron games by High Moon Studios(War/Fall of Cybertron, both of which are fantastic) and even the PS2 game(which I've never played, but has been recommended to me several times), Transformers games are usually expected to be pretty bad. However, last year just before E3, it was revealed that Platinum Studios, the masterminds behind accritically accalaimed games like the Bayonetta series, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising, Wonderful 101, and the upcoming Starfox Zero, Nier 2, TMNT, and Scalebound to much skepticism that was quickly put to rest when screenshots and trailers were officially revealed. Skepticism quickly reared it's ugly head again however when people remembered that Activision was publishing the game, and last time Platinum and Activision worked on a game together was The Legend of Korra, which was released to mixed reception. Thankfully, this time around Transformers Devastation was able to avoid problems Korra had, deliver everything a Platinum game should be, and can sit up there with the best of the best Transformers games.

    Story/Presentation
Right off the bat the game starts in mayhem as Decepticons ravage city of New York and attempt to "Cyberform" Earth and the Autobots do everything they can to put a stop to their plans. While the story and writing isn't all that, the characters more than make up for it, with the game featuring a cast of fan favorites, like the obvious Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumble Bee, Starscream, Soundwave, Grimlock, and several others, most voiced by their original G1 voice actors. The story also does a good job of injecting all of that G1 flair and 80's cheese we've come to love from 80's cartoons, by sporting a visual looks of that of the original G1 cartoon and the story playing like one of the old episodes.

    Gameplay

Obviously the selling point of any Platinum game and the highlight of this one. It plays like any game would, and melee combat is absolutely fantastic. You can choose between 5 Autobots, Optimus, Bumble Bee, Sideswipe, and eventually Wheeljack and Grimlock, and just fight your way through Decepticons to complete your objective. Each autobot has their own specialty weapons(i.e. Optimus specializes in Axes/Swords, Bumble Bee's a brawler, Sideswipe dual wields swords, etc.,) but they can each weapon type has it's own unique style that each player can use to see which they prefer. Each Autobot also has their own two unique abilities, with one that's used to defeat sleuths of enemies in one go and one that helps you dodge enemy attacks with ease. Combat also takes some cues from Bayonetta with Focus(ala Witch Time for giant robots), which slows time and lets you go at it at enemies for a short time. Transforming can also be a lot of fun though you run into barriers(pun intended) that do get annoying to get through at times. Gunplay is probably the weaker part of the gameplay, though not bad. Like melee weapons, you can also choose between an assortment of guns that can be very useful in various situations, though not very effective against certain enemies and especially bosses. There's also plenty of enemy variety from several types of ground soldiers, seekers, and insecticons waiting to ruin your day. The game also lets you explore the city, but there's really not much of interest and feels very small. With how fun combat is, it makes you want to run into enemies every chance you get but otherwise the city itself feels rather uninteresting, but it does allow you to find goodies such as concept art, hidden side missions, and challenges to unlock in challenge mode, and believe me, there are tons of fun challenges to play when your done.Unfortunately the game is really short, just clocking in at about 4-6 hours, but thankfully the game also has some good replay value, as well as tons of challenges, especially since the game gets more fun the higher your difficulty. The game can be really hard but it never feels cheap, and can be very rewarding when you accomplish a mission, challenge or beat a boss.

Also the game starts of with freaking Devastator as your first boss in the game, ala Metal Gear Ray in Metal Gear Rising

    Visuals/Audio

As said earlier, the visual style is very reminiscent of the G1 cartoons and seeing it in Cel-Shaded 3D looks absolutely gorgeous, even on the weaker last gen consoles the games a beauty. The characters and effects look amazing and does the style of the old cartoons justice.

The sound department is just as good, with most of the characters being voiced by their original actors such as Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, Michael Bell, Dan Gilvezan, and Gregg Berger, and the guys they got for the other characters do a great job of sounding like their original counterparts. Sound design is very metallic and very appropriate for the characters, and the soundtrack, oh lawdy the soundtrack is awesome, the mix of metal with giant robots beating the tar out of each other is one of the most satisfying things ever. The OST is composed by several composers including Vince DiCola(who composed the original soundtrack for the old Transformers movie) as well as Kenny Meriedeth, and Satoshi Igarashi. I've been listening to this nonstop for a while now, and even among Platinum's other stellar soundtracks this one ranks among them as one of the best, and quite possibly one of my all-time favorites. Here's a small taste of some of the songs in the game

    Overall
It's a fantastic game that does the license justice, highly recommended if you're a Transformers fan. Hell even if you aren't one, or if your just a fan of Platinum or action games/brawlers, this game deserves your attention.

There's plenty of good things about this game, if they could give the next game a better world map and more longevity, it'd be a huge improvement of an awesome game

Ramblings of a Smash Bros and Final Fantasy fanboy, GO!

    Anyone is possible

Ok, so maybe that's not entirely true. I'm sure suggestions regarding characters like Spongebob, Goku, Shrek, etc., are regularly thrown in the garbage. But the point is, absolutely NO one expected Cloud to appear in Super Smash Bros, prompting one of the biggest surprises in the series since Snake's reveal in Brawl. Hell no one though we would get another "Snake" but here it is.

Cloud's notoriety for the Playstation, like Snake, prompted most fans to write him off, which still led to grown men to shriek like little children at the reveal. Though again, it's not entirely true since Cloud is a Square Enix character rather than a Sony character like many believe, so don't expect Sony or M$ first party characters or anything(though Banjo & Kazooie isn't totally out of the picture)

How disappointing it is that hardly any Smash fans recognize the FFVII opening

This is more of a personal thing, but for an opening that's widely considered iconic by gamers everywhere, it's really sad how many people on Youtube didn't recognize it. It bugs me more than it should, seeing people constantly yell out "WOLF?", "RIDLEY", or "PIKMIN" instead of recognizing FFVII's freaking opening. I'm probably just being an old fart.

Of course Joshscorcher is an exception(probably because seeing him get excited and screaming over a character he hates from a game he doesn't care for says something) and MaximillianDood(seen above) exploding was glorious

Super Smash Bros will finally have Final Fantasy music, thus becoming the greatest collection of VG music ever

Seriously this time it actually happened

    Sakurai's bullshit "rules" don't exist

Technically this has been a thing since Snake, but became more solidified with Cloud. Character speculation is always a dangerous thing when it comes to the Smash community, with people always arguing how a character is qualified to be in Smash. "Oh x needs to be in x games on x nintendo console of this many gens", "series needs x many reps" "x is more deserving, y isn't Q". However, Sakurai has constantly proven fans wrong time and time again, for better or for worse. Hell it wouldn't surprise me if we saw the freaking King of Hyrule from those awful Zelda games at some point

Lets be honest here, FFVII doesn't have much with Nintendo(though there's plenty of history between the two), but no one should care. Cloud's not in because he has an illustrious history with Nintendo....He's in it because he's freaking Cloud, which leads me to my last point

Smash is no longer about celebrating Nintendo's History

And I mean this in the best way possible.

For years Smash Bros has always prided itself as being a celebration of Nintendo's history, fully loaded with virtually any tribute to games fans can think of, big an small. But even going as far back as Melee, including 3rd party characters has been always been in the suggestion, and then coming into fruition on Brawl with the arrival of two massive gaming icons, Metal Gear's Snake and Sonic the Hedgehog. A few years later Nintendo ups the ante with 4 more characters from beloved franchises, Pac-Man, Megaman, Street Fighter's Ryu and now Final Fantasy's Cloud. This coupled with Sakurai's desire to turn Smash 4 into "The Greatest Character Game Ever" has lead me into the one conclusion: Smash is no longer a celebration of Nintendo's history, but instead of Gaming as a whole.

Of course it's still missing something

The Wii was an...interesting console to put it best. It was the one 7th gen console to come out without banking on power like the PS3 and 360. On the contrary, it was severely underpowered compared to the other consoles, I'd say it was a little more powerful than the OG Xbox(or 2 Gamecubes taped together, as many people would say). It was all intentional as the Wii's main selling point was the Wii-mote and its motion-controls, which had varying degrees of success. Unfortunately, this would cause many developers to release an avalanche of shovelware, terrible party games, terrible children's games, etc., that all horribly implemented motion controls, relied on waggle, and overall made their games unfun experiences which unfortunately hurt the Wii's overall reputation. On the other hand, under the hands of talented and competent developers, the motion controls would help improve the game's experience and prove to be very memorable. Games like Super Mario Galaxy, Skyward Sword, the Metroid Prime Trilogy, Madworld, light-gun shooters, and ports of titles like Okami, Resident Evil 4, and even the Call of Duty titles proved to benefited from motion-controls.

So what happens when you give the Wii-mote to one of the strangest video game developers in the industry? You get Suda51's No More Heroes, one of the most gloriously violent and over-the-top games on the 7th gen.

    Story

The game revolves around Travis Touchdown, a 27-year-old otaku/gamer/wrestling fanatic from Santa Destroy, California, who decides to become an assassin after he finds himself broke, thanks to a women he meets at a bar named Sylvia Crystal. When he succeeds on his first assassination mission against another assassin named "Helter Skelter", he finds out from Sylvia that he is now the No.11th assassin in the world, and he can become No.1 if he beats the other 10 assassins, to which he agrees. Speaking of beating, Travis also agrees to this in hopes of scoring with Sylvia.

Yeah, the game is as goofy as it sounds. Most of the characters are a blast, and the story is loaded with references from various games(including a jab at Duke Nukem Forever development hell), anime(ganmen-like mechs and scantily-clad anime chicks galore), and wrestling(you'll recognize various popular moves like the DDT and the Tombstone). Travis Touchdown himself turns out to be a pretty likable and honorable guy the farther you progress, despite being a serious pervert. Most of the bosses themselves are both of odd and fun, each with their own interesting personalities and backstories, and the side characters are funny themselves, such as Naomi, Thunder Ryu, and the guy responsible for giving you your odd-jobs(and yes I mean things like mowing lawns and picking up trash). That said there's tons of content in the game that I could see not going well with the easily offended.

Also Travis received his weapon, the Beam Katana, from an internet auction

    Gameplay

It's a hack-n-slash game that utilizes motion controls for finishing blows and wrestling moves. Normal attacks utilize both the A-button for your Beam Katana and B-button for stunning enemies, with the c-button for blocking and dodging. Motion controls are used for executing finishing blows on enemies or using wrestling moves on stunned enemies(mimicking said wrestling moves). There's something oddly satisfying about delivering finishing blows, probably because of the gory aftermath that ensues. Sword combat in a whole is fun, though punching people isn't as fun as it sounds, as all you can do is throw one weak punch or charge and throw a really slow punch in hopes of stunning enemies, though using your grapples are more than worth it. There's also a roulette on the bottom that appears after every kill, sometimes it's a dud and sometimes you gain temporary powers such as throwing energy balls at enemies, becoming a "Super Travis" and slowly, but awesomely eliminate foes one by one, and etc. Also your Beam Katana is run on batteries, and when you run out of battery, you have to shake the Wii-mote to recharge it. It looks stupid, but hilarious. While we're on the subject of combat, the Bosses in this game are an absolute blast, and easily the game's highlight. Each boss are intense and require understanding of their attack patterns to beat them. Even ones that sound boring like Dr Peace(who fights with two simple revolvers) is surprisingly fun, and then there's the likes of Shinobu, Henry, Bad Girl, and even the intro boss Death Metal, who easily rank among the game's best. Only other problem with the combat is that most generic enemies don't have much variety, either they have weapons, guns or they don't have anything, and enemies with Beam Katanas are tougher than normal enemies. But it's not enough to diminish the fun of combat especially with how satisfying finishing blows and wrestling moves are.

The other portion of the game is the world map, which is unfortunately where most of the game's problems lie. Before and after every fight you have the option to travel the city of Santa Destroy to earn money for the next fight registration, as well as money for various other things like clothes, or video tapes to learn new wrestling moves. There's also the bar where you meet Lolikov who teaches you new skills and manuvers after finding 7 Lovikov Balls, Thunder Ryu who trains you which helps build strength and health, Naomi, who upgrades your Beam Katana or buy new ones, the video store Beef Head where you buy your wrestling videos, Area 51 for buying apparel, and then there's the Job Center for jobs and the K-Entertainment for assassination missions. On paper this doesn't sound too bad, but the problem however is that traveling Santa Destroy is absolutely no fun. All of the interest points, apart from time trial assassinations and ranked fights, are all clumped together into one area making it needlessly large to travel with very little to do. Only thing to do with the large space is to look for is to either search for collectables, Lovikov Balls, and give you space to do your jobs. While we're on the subject of jobs, none of them are very fun, they're all mostly just trivial odd-jobs like mowing lawns, picking up trash, finding lost cats, etc, and are just really boring to do, thankfully they aren't the only way to gain money, as it's preferred just to just do assassination missions, which are more fun and you gain more money for every kill you make.

Save points in the game are toilets, where Travis will go take a dump and the game will ask you to save. Because of this, every time I go use the bathroom, I say I'm gonna save the game.

    Visuals

No More Heroes compensates for the Wii's low power by going for a cel-shaded artstyle which works in the games favor. The visuals character models and locations look great even with the Wii's limitations and the violent style of the violence, blood and gore makes gives it its charm. In contrast, I feel the the HD port of the game, "Heroes' Paradise" loses a lot of the game's original visual appeal, despite how "updated" everything looks.

    Sound

Game's soundtrack is composed by Masafumi Takada, who's also known for other soundtracks like God Hand and Suda51's Killer7. I'll let the two songs above speak for the soundtrack, there are plenty of other stellar songs in the game like Mach 13 Elephant Explosion, Steel Python, and the game's main theme. The game also features some great voice acting, with notable voice actors like Robin Atkin Downes(Travis himself), Quinton Flynn(Henry), and Josh Keaton(Destroyman), just to name a few.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Pros:
    - Fun Combat
    - Fun story and characters
    - Excellent boss fights
    - Great OST

    Cons:
    - Not for the easily offended
    - Terrible hub world
    - Terrible minigames

Overall, despite some pretty notable problems, they're pretty easy to look over as the rest of the game holds up very well. If you have a Wii or a Wii U, I recommend giving this game a shot as I feel it's very well worth getting if you can look past it's blemishes.

PS. I am aware about Heroes' Paradise on the PS3, despite having more content and an HD upgrade, I still say it's better to get the Wii version instead since from what I remember, the PS3 version preforms worse

Apollo Justice is the fourth game in the Ace Attorney series and the first game to fully utilize the DS's key features. It is also the first game that takes major risks with the series by breaking away from the first 3 games by giving us both a new main character and almost entirely new cast to interact with.

    Story

This game takes place 7 years after the events of Trials and Tribulations, and a lot has happened since then. The first case(Turnabout Trump) introduces you to the new main character, Apollo Justice, a new defense attorney working under Kristoph Gavin, a veteran defense attorney, and his first trial is to defend none other than Phoenix Wright himself, who was revolked of his attorney badge 7 years ago for presenting forged evidence(unknowingly). The first case also introduces key characters like the victim Shadi Smith(who's more relevant in the final case) and Trucy Wright, Phoenix's adopted daughter and a prodigy in magic tricks. The second case(Turnabout Corner) involves a stolen noodle cart, a hit-n-run case and panty theft(seriously), all of which eventually become related to a murder, and Apollo must defend the son of a family gang. This case also features the return of Ema Skye, who made her appearance in the extra case in the first game, Rise From the Ashes, though she is much more different from her first appearance, as she's a bit more bitter, especially towards the game's prosecutor. Speaking of which this case also introduces the main prosecutor Klavier Gavin, who's the obvious younger brother of the Defense Attorney Kristoph, as well as a rockstar who leads the rock band "The Gavinners". The third case(Turnabout Serenade) involves a concert featuring Klavier's band, and famous Borginian(fictional country) singer Lamoire(who's more important than this case lets on) and her pianist Machi Toyabe, the latter who eventually becomes the suspect for the murder of his manager. Also despite the terribly slow start, this case gets really good. It also introduces Valant Gramayre, who Trucy refers to as "uncle". The final case(Turnabout Succession) involves the murder of an artist who also turns out to be responsible for a ton of forgeries, and his daughter is accused for poisoning him. This case is eventually linked to the first case as well as the same case 7 years ago where Phoenix loses his badge. The case also allows you to play through that same case where Phoenix defends Zak Gramyare, Trucy's real father as he's accused of the murder of his master, Magnifi. Phoenix's case also features the original courtroom, music from the first game, as well as other familiar faces like Detective Gumshoe, and also appears to be Klavier's first case as a prosecutor. And slowly shows the mastermind behind the whole ordeal. Unsurprisingly this is the best case in the game, though it also introduces one of the worst characters in the series, Spark Bushel(more on him later). The final case also deals with the changes to Law and Court after the forgery debacle, and the final case is an attempt to reform by using a Jurist system.

The game features an almost an entirely new cast of characters, with the returning characters mainly consisting of Phoenix, Gumshoe(albeit in a flashback), and the Judge, as well as a couple of characters like Ema and Officer Meekins(ugh). Surprisingly, Phoenix is a lot different from the original trilogy, as he feels a lot more mature the past 7 years, and works very well as a mentor for Apollo. Apollo himself is a great character, and has enough different to him to keep him from being a copy of Phoenix, with him being a lot more serious and wanting more confidence, and his sarcasm gives him some funny moments(CHORDS OF STEEL). Trucy is easily my favorite new character, her enthusiasm for her magic tricks, her upbeat and adorable behavior and her tendency to look at the bright side, even in the bleakest moments makes her a lovable character. With Ema, at first I found her personality change jarring, but I eventually liked her more as it made her stand out as opposed to being Maya 2.0. I'm more mixed towards Klavier Gavin, as while he's likable, and I enjoy his personal dilemma in the final case, he's probably my least favorite prosecutor, as I didn't find him as interesting as Edgeworth, Franziska or Godot, and I found his rockstar motif kinda lame. On the other hand, this game probably has the best minor cast, as most of the suspects and witnesses are pretty fun, especially Guy Eldoon, Valant Gramyare, Vera Misham and Wocky Kitaki. However one character, Spark Bushel, a guy who's scarily obsessed with getting the 'juicy scoop'(so basically a even worse version of Lotta Hart), is easily the worst character in the game, and ranks up there with Oldbag, Victor Kudo, and most of the Turnabout Big Top cast, as one of the worst series, and has a very punchable face.

    Gameplay

*Finally I can say more about the gameply

Most of the gameplay we expect from the series make their return(including Psyche Locks), though there are some new features and changes. Most gameplay that was used in "Rise From the Ashes", such as viewing evidence in 3D, and most of the new gimmicks introduced by Ema such as luminol for blood and checking for fingerprints, make their return. Another includes an X-ray machine, which allows you to look through envelopes for messages without compromising the evidence. Another new mechanic is the "Perceive" mechanic, where Apollo uses a special bracelet(which he got from his mother) which allows him to specifically see witnesses where he can point out odd habits when they show signs of being nervous. This is a neat mechanic, though at times it can be difficult as some signs of nervousness can be either vague and be very difficult to find.

    Visuals

The spritework get a huge upgrade from the original trilogy as the character have several very well-animated sprites and are much more fluid compared to the original 3, and
are very fun to look at. The game is also uses 3D artwork for both it's cutscenes and evidence, which while used in RFtA, it's used to full affect here. The 3D cutscenes can be hit or miss especially regarding the characters, but it makes looking at evidence more interesting. And as usual the backgrounds are great.
    Sound and Music

Unsurprisingly the sound is the same tired and true sound design we expect from these games, yelling "Objection!" will never get old. Where the soundtrack stands with the rest of the series is up for debate(personally it's above JFA's, but below T&T and almost on par with Ace Attorney), but on it's own it's great, and does have better sound quality compared to the original 3.

    Overall

The game definitely feels like a new chapter for the series as it does a lot to shake up the series like introducing new gameplay elements and a mostly new cast and main character, while staying true to what the series is best known for. Unfortunately the game hasn't gotten a rerelease, so it's more difficult to find. But if your a fan of the series or have a DS or 3DS(which is Backwards compatible with the DS), and you come across this game, you should definitely give this one a go
  10. Megas
Megaman Legends is a very interesting game. Before it every Megaman or Megaman X game had always been an 2D action, side-scrolling platformer. Megaman Legends, however, was a completely alien experience for fans; rather than running from one side to another on a 2D plane shooting every bad guy and taking on an army lead by madmen, you were instead put into a full 3D world exploring ruins and discovering treasure while making your way through mysterious robots and thwarting pirates. It was a wholly unique experience from the Megaman franchise at the time and since it's release it's developed quite a cult following, and today, it's finally made its way to the Playstation Network Store. How well does it hold up?

The story takes plays several tmillenia into the Megaman timeline(though no prior knowledge is needed to play the game). You take control of a new incarnation of Megaman called Megaman Volnutt(who is also referred to sometimes as Megaman Trigger), a 14-year old digger who travels a world covered in water with his surrogate sister and Spotter Roll Casket, her grandfather Barrel Casket and a little robot monkey named Data. The game begins with Megaman escaping a ruin after successfully getting a refractor(which serves as both money, and an energy source in the game). After escaping, the groups ship (called the Flutter) has an engine failure and crashes into Kattelox Island, where they meet the locals and a small town up ahead to meet with the Mayor. During their stay there they venture through several ruins, meet antagonists(though not bad guys) the Bonnes, a lovably goofy family of pirates who tries to find all of the treasure they can at any cost, and they learn from exploring the island's ruins that it contains a dark and ominous secret.

This is probably the first time since the original Megaman X where the story in a Megaman game is actually pretty fun and engaging. The build up to the game's climax is fun to follow through and the characters are the best. Megaman and his "family" all have some pretty fun quirks and are great to be around, as well as some of the Kattelox's residents. But the real stars are the Bonne Family, who are some of the funniest characters in the game, Tron is feisty and stubborn girl with some temper problems(who also totally has a crush on Volnutt), Teisel is her crazy, hot-headed older brother who emotions are all over the place(which leads to some hilarious moments) and Bon Bonne who is the youngest of the 3 siblings because he's literally a baby, and and yet can operate a giant robot(He is likely inspired by Baby Commando, a character in the Capcom beat-em-up Captain Commando). Then there's their henchmen(and the game's pseudo mascots) the Servebots who are absolutely adorable despite their incompetence. They're some of the best adorable yellow/blue henchmen out there(suck it Minions!)

Also Wily makes an appearance, but as a normal boat salesman rather than a crazy scientist

    Gameplay

As I said before, Megaman Legends is a much different experience from the traditional Megaman games. This is the first Megaman game that lets you experience the world in a 3D adventure game. As far as controls go, they work well. Movement and shooting work fine, and you can interact with different objects, sometimes they do nothing, sometimes they explain game mechanics or the story, and somethings, usually boxes, trash cans and treasure boxes, contain items. The shoulder buttons move the camera, and the R2 button allows for targeting enemies. One glaring issue however with the targeting is that you can't move while targeting enemies which can make it difficult for targeting enemies, and sometimes it's difficult to switch enemies when there are multiple ones at once. It's takes a while to get used to and simply becomes a minor inconvenience once you do, but I can see this turning off some new players. There are also some situations where some enemies can become unreasonably difficult and overwhelming to deal with at times, which can lead to a few cheap deaths, especially for newcomers.

As for exploring, you can enter ruins and search for hidden items, treasures, buster parts and money(which can also be obtained along with health from defeating enemies) with some items being harder to find than others. Some ruins may have areas where you can't progress further until certain items are found(such as the Drill Arm or Jump Springs). Some items can be taken to Roll to be turned into buster parts, special items and special weapons. Buster parts can be used to upgrade the stats of your buster, which is your standard weapon and you can upgrade either your attack, energy(the amount of shots you can fire at one time, with 3 shots at the start, like every other Megaman game), range, and rapid fire and are completely unlimited. Special weapons are weapons that can be more efficient than your buster given the situation and are completely unique to each other, they range from machine busters, to rocket launchers, swords, vacuums(which is more useful than it sounds) with a laser being your strongest special weapon. Unlike your buster you have limited ammo for most of your weapons until your refill your weapon energy at the save point or have a Hyper Cartridge and you can upgrade your special weapons with money as well. You can also obtain Special items, some of which are either key items or items that improve your performance(such as Helmets, which protect you when you fall on your head, armor, jump springs, which improves jumping, and jet skates which allows you to move faster). Other items include energy canteens(refills health), chameleon net(which makes invisible and avoid enemy detection), Adapter Plug(which lets you equip more parts) and a shield repair(which lets repairs your shield when it gets too damaged). There are also various shops and vendors where you can buy more items, parts, increase your life gauge, energy canteen, etc. Items and parts can also be obtained by doing side quests, that can range from fun to annoying.

    Visuals

Visuals are a bit of a mixed. They game is very polygonal, and definitely shows its age in a lot of areas. On the plus side, the world is very colorful, some areas such as the town, shops and ruins are very detailed, as well as some cameos here and there left by Capcom. Ruins are made to be very dark and mysterious with a draw distance that adds to their ominousness. The game also uses cutscenes played in game and was very anime-like(not quite cel-shaded though), it allowed for characters to give some very good facial expressions, which was pretty impressive, not to mention rare for a 3D game at the time(keep in mind, not even Metal Gear Solid or Ocarina of Time had that). The character models on the other hand could have used some more work, while the main characters looked fine for the most part(which is probably because they focused mostly on them) most background character models had some ridiculously massive limbs and normal towns people look pretty ugly(and not intentionally).

    Sound

Music is quite different compared to most Megaman titles, but it's still a very impressive soundtrack. Memorable tracks the Apple Market theme that plays whenever you're in the main town or in the small shopping arcade in front of it, it's very relaxing and will put you in a shopping mood. Most of the ruin's music definitely add to their mystique, though the
definitely gets bonus points for adding some suspense to it. And lets not for get the , or the Flutter vs the Gesellschaft, both of which are up there with Dr Wily's Castle and X Vs Zero as some of the best tunes in the franchise.
This is also one of the few Megaman games that doesn't have awful voice acting. They aren't anything special, but they get the job done pretty well. Some characters can come off as a bit hammy, but with some of them they work very well and fit the character perfectly(again, Tron and Teisel are easily the most memorable performances in the game)

Also Megaman finally sounds like a boy

    Overall

This game is an odd one. Visually it shows it's age, and I could see the shift in gameplay being a turnoff to some people, especially hardcore fans of traditional Megaman gameplay. But the controls still hold up well(despite targeting issues), and the story and characters are a blast to experience. For a new player it could be beaten in about 10 hours and beating it unlocks the Hard difficulty which allows for more replay value. Despite it's issues it's still a really fun game that I still say is very much worth giving a chance, especially now that it's on PSN(which means you won't have to donate an organ to buy the original PS1/N64 copy), though the best way to experience it is either on the PS1 or PS3 due to the lack buttons on the PSP/Vita, and because the N64 controller is seriously fucked.

The Ace Attorney series by Capcom is one of the most surprising games I have ever played in my life. On paper it just sounds like an absolute bore: a game about a defense attorney defending their client when they're charged with murder. Doesn't sound like anything you can see working as a video game. Yet, leave it to Capcom to turn such a concept into a franchise full of charm, heart, humor and fantastic stories that is still going strong for over a decade. The first game in the series, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney is actually an enhanced port of the GBA game of the same name that was made to utilize many of the DS's key features and was the first time the series was released outside of Japan. The series would eventually become popular enough to spawn 6 main titles and a few spin-offs.

This review may contain a couple of spoilers, but I'll do my best to try to avoid them if I can

    GAMEPLAY:

Gameplay is set into two parts and both are very simple to get. One takes place out of the courtroom where start out going to the Detention Center where you meet the guy that needs your defense and often tells you what happened when the murder took place. Then you begin investigating key areas such as the scene of the crime or areas the murderer/victim/police/witnesses have been and can talk to various people about what happened or what they might know. You also come across key evidence that will prove useful to the courtroom and can help your case. You can also examine places you've which can reveal new areas, evidence or clues on what the to next. You can also present items to other people and look at your court records and see the profiles of the people you've met or see the details of the items and evidence you have in your possession

The second part of the gameplay involves the actual trial, where you go up against the prosecutor and prove your client innocent. When you start, you begin by hearing a witness's testimony and then cross-examine them, where you either press the witness to reveal more information of what they know, or you can present evidence that contradict's what the witness says, with some contradictions being harder to find than others. But be careful as presenting the wrong can result in a penalty, and five penalties will result in a game over. Other elements include looking at pictures to showing contradictions, or pointing out flaws in the witness's or prosecutions arguments.

    Story

Obviously the main draw of the game, you play as newbie defense attorney Phoenix Wright and begin your career with the help of your mentor Mia Fey in five different cases throughout the game. The first case(The First Turnabout) is your usual tutorial case where you learn the basics of the game and defend your best friend Larry Butz(one of the series more prominent characters) who is accused of murdering his girlfriend. The second case(Turnabout Sisters) involves Mia's sister and the second main character in the game Maya Fey, who is accused of murdering Mia Fey. The second case also features many prominent characters in the series like Detective Dick Gumshoe and your and Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth. It also features one of the story's odder elements such as spirit channeling(which is how Mia Few still remains a prominent character through out the series). The third case(Turnabout Samurai) is...how you say...the "filler" case. You see in every game in the series there's always at least one case that really is just kind of...there...and more often than not it's usually a pain to get through. It involves the TV star, Will Powers, of the in-game children's show "The Steel Samurai" who is accused of killing the actor of the show's villain. The fourth case(Turnabout Goodbyes, arguably the game's best trials) involves Miles Edgeworth who is accused of killing a defense attorney from his past. This is also the case where you learn about why Phoenix and Miles chose their careers, the DL-6 Incident(a case from the past that's a big part of Edgeworth's backstory) as well as some more background on Mia and Maya, including their disgraced mother. The final case(Rise From the Ashes) is an all new story exclusive to the DS version of the game, which could serve as a sort of prequel to the fourth game in the series "Apollo Justice. It revolves around Ema Skye(one of AJ's main characters) who is trying to get Phoenix to defend her sister Lana Skye who is accused of murdering one of the police force's major detectives(don't worry it's not Gumshoe). This case also features a lot of the gameplay elements you see in AJ including finger-scanning, forensics, and looking at evidence in a 3D plane which allows you to see more detail.

The game also has a large and colorful cast of characters. Phoenix himself is a very funny character that knows when to take his job seriously, while Mia serves as a great mentor for Phoenix who's and has her quirks as well. Maya Fey is an energetic girl with both a a spiritual connection to the supernatural and a love of hamburgers. Gumshoe is a hilariously incompetent goofball but still takes his job very seriously with one moment in the game where he becomes a straight up badass, Miles Edgeworth on the other hand is a pretty cold guy who doesn't care much for other people(though you'll understand him more after Turnabout Goodbyes). The rest of the cast such as the witnesses and the villains for each case range from pretty awesome(Larry Butz, Will Powers, Ema Skye) to downright infuriating(Lotta Hart, Wendy Oldbag, Sal Manella)

    Visuals

The game has some nice visuals, backgrounds are very detail while making it easy for the most part to see oddities. But what everyone remembers the most are the in game sprites which are both very expressive and can be downright hilarious, especially when a character has their breakdown, they're often handled in some of the most hilarious and over the top ways possible. It's no wonder you see people use them on the internet all the time

    Sound

The series has managed to create some of the most memorable, arguably even some to the most iconic sound design in the gaming industry. The series has become known for the over-the-top use of courtroom terms such as "OBJECTION", "HOLD IT!" and "TAKE THAT", as well as various soundbytes that are made when you call out the witnesses or the prosecutor. The soundtrack is also stellar with iconic tunes such as the famous "Cornered" theme or Phoenix's "Objection" theme that plays whenever you correctly point out a contradiction. The soundtrack also pumps out many other tracks that plays with your emotions, whether it be to get your adrenaline pumping, make you feel all happy inside, or tugging your heartstrings, the OST is easily one of the best out there

    OVERALL
Phoenix Wright is a fantastic game that, despite an odd premise, manages to do everything wright. Strong Story, strong characters, charm and humor, it's easily one of the best games of its kind. It's a must-own for DS owners everywhere, and even if you don't have a DS you can still find the game on your iOS device or on the Wii's WiiWare shop. The best way to go is to get the AA on the 3DS eShop which has improved sprites and comes with the other two games in the original Ace Attorney Trilogy. But regardless of how you get it, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney is a great game to experience

Some cartoons are pretty successful, some aren't. Some are even successful enough to warrant a theatrical adaptation, and that's what this list is for. Only two things to note

    - Full theatrical releases, so no TV movies(like Fairly Odd Parents Channel Chasers or MLaaTR's Escape From Cluster Prime), Direct-to-DVD movies(like Wakko's Wish) or limited releases(like Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks or DBZ: Battle of the Gods)
    - Animated Adaptations only, so don't worry about seeing those horrific movies like The Last Airbender or Dragonball Evolution
    - Only including movies I watched, which will explain why the Power Puff Girls movie isn't on here

    10) The Wild Thornberrys Movie

Genuinely surprised that the movie(or the show for that matter) doesn't get much attention as I feel both it and the show was some of Nick's best(as well as Klasky Csupo's last good efforts, Rocket Power was eh and As Told By Ginger was boring).

    9) The Rugrats Movie

Surprisingly heart-tugging, from what I remember this was the first and one of the very few Nicktoons to get it's own movie. It introduced Dil and while the show wasn't as great as it used to be before the movie(though imo Dil was All Grown Up's saving grace), the movie itself was still a fun romp. Spike being a badass, And that one scene with Tommy and Dil in the rain is still really powerful

    8) Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius

This one's kind of cheating since the movie was really more of a pilot than a movie adaptation, but the movie wound up giving us the 3rd of what I like to call, "The Big 3 of the 2000s", which included Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, and Jimmy Neutron. The movie itself was really fun and gave us some great characters to look forward too despite some...really impractical science when you really think about it(and lets not forget that they were able to breathe in space freely)

    7) The Spongebob Squarepants Movie

Before you youngins had "A Sponge Out of Water" this was the first Spongebob movie and boy was it awesome. Originally planned as the series finale, the movie encompassed everything that made the show great while putting our heroes on a huge adventure, giving us one of the
, Patrick's crush on Mindy was adorable, and best of all

    6) Rugrats in Paris

    Last Nickelodeon Movie, I promise!
In my opinion the best Nickelodeon movie(or at least the most memorable), this time starring Chuckie as he tries to get a new mom. Not gonna lie, some of the scenes are...really heartbreaking. On top of that you get moments of Chuckie being awesome, you get see mechs sorta fight each other, and you even see a moment of Angelica actually feeling guilty for being a shitty human being and actually trying to make up for it(including humiliating the movie's villain)

    6) A Goofy Movie

It was a tough choice between this and An Extremely Goofy Movie, but when I realized that An Extremely Goofy Movie was a Direct-to-DVD movie(which was actually really surprising considering the quality of most DtDVD Disney movies). Plot is nothing too special, Max and Goofy want to do different things for Summer, with Goofy going camping and Max wanting to go to a concert. But the parts surrounding Max and Goofy is what makes this movie for me

    4) South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut

This movie is basically what happens when South Park doesn't hold back. It also has some of the

    3) Beavis and Butthead Do America

Much like South Park, this movie is what happens when Beavis and Butthead don't hold back(though I prefer this one slightly more). It involves the duo doing what they usually do, this time on a national scale, while trying to find someone "to score". It also features a pretty insane music video.

    2) Recess: School's Out

This movie imo, is how you both make a series finale. The movie returns to the "getting rid of recess plot" but this time the stakes are higher, with a crazy madman trying to make a permanent winter and trying to get rid of the biggest Recess of all, Summer vacation. Everything that made the show good is here and then some, you get to see some good buddy to buddy interaction between TJ and Prickly, heartwarming moments between the gang, and you get to see Gus, Prickly and Ms Finster being badass

    1) The Simpsons Movie

Released during the times when everyone was saying the Simpsons was far passed its prime, this movie comes out and proves that the Simpsons still has it in them. Pretty much in development hell for a long time, much like Recess and Spongebob, the movie has everything that made the show great and then some. It also has a ton of heart and genuinely heartwarming moments and tons of laughs. Apparently the show's creator says that if he ever gets the chance, he wants to make another movie and use it as a series finale, and honestly I wouldn't have it any other way, if this movie is anything to go by, I wouldn't have it any other way

    - ReCore. One of the more interesting games showed off imo. Though nothing was shown in terms of gameplay, seeing Keiji Inafune and Armature's name on it piqued my interest. Hoping to see more from it in the future
    - Xbox One Backwards Compatible with the 360. One of the highlights of the show for me and many others. While the way M$ has done BC in the past with the 360 leaves me skeptical, from everything I've seen it looks right. I also love the burn directed at PSNow
    - New controller. Not much to say. Looks nice though
    - Fallout 4. Game looks good. Being able to support PC mods is awesome
