    I honestly wonder if the writers would have an easier time writing Spike's character and episodes for him if not for the existence of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

    The one lesson I wish they could have taught to Spike is not to worry about what happens to him when he gets older since he's a dragon in a world full of ponies. But they can't really do that.

    In the end, the show isn't about him. The focus is one the mane six. As well as it should be.

    I know. I'm just saying if he never does get developed in the show, there are 3rd party sources where he is.

    If anything, I have plenty of fanfics I've read where Spike is developed well and same with the Nightmare Rarity comic. Better than nothing.

    I can understand fans that don't like him. What I don't get is why a lot of those fans want to basically kill him off. Like if he left to join the dragon migration then yeah fine but why would you kill off an innocent character for no reason in a show target towards little girls?

    I'm pretty much playing Devil's Advocate to fans who give Spike a hard time even though it's not his fault. I'm on your side.

    Would you rather for him to keep getting upsides like Spike At Your Service and Princess Spike? The writers just don't know how to do a Spike episode right.

    Probably. Maybe a good Spike episode just can't be done.

    I say yes. Focus more on keeping Spike a consistent supporting character.

    I love Spike though he does have problems character wise. Though that's all about how he's written in his episodes. In episodes when he's the main support, he's great. He's not the best character in the show but he's not the worst either. Unless you're one of those dummies who even after he's kept Twilight from going insane, always been there for her when she needs him, and saved the Crystal Empire twice STILL say he never does anything.

    You're probably one of those fans who expect too much out of him. It's not like he does a ton of harm to the other characters in the show.

    I wonder what Brotherhooves Social is going to be. Maybe the FlimFlam Bros come back for a cameo? Maybe focusing on the relationship between Big Mac and AJ? Maybe a group of stallions form a brotherhood group and Spike tries to prove himself? (Though that would be Dragon Quest all over again)

    I've imagined in the past that Spike goes off to find out who he is by getting his own show. Like he would be a group of younger dragons or other creatures like him who also want to figure out where they belong and the show is basically about their journey and the colorful characters they meet along the way. This is in the case that maybe the writers just don't have time to develop Spike when they already have the mane six and the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

    You know the funny thing is when I first heard about Equestria Girls, I was hoping they would keep Spike out of it to spare him the humiliation. Like just keep him in the FiM world since he can actually do stuff there.

    I feel that was more of a lesson that fans needed to learn more than Spike.

    You're probably one of those who probably wouldn't like Spike even if they did write him better. And did make him a character who protrayed him better. Can't please everyone I guess.

    Why do you think it is that Spike gets a bad wrap from fans that say he never does anything and yet the Cutie Mark Crusaders always get a pass? I mean the three of them are older so they can do more to help out in a given situation. Then again, the CMCs are usually absent in most mane six stories. Or maybe it's gotten to the point where the mane six have all been written so well that Spike's writing seems underwhelming by comparison. I'd still watch the show even if Spike gets written out.

    Yoshi, Link, Mr. Game & Watch, and Mega Man are my rotation.

    Yeah I'd be more than happy to end Spike episodes all together if it meant we get more appearances like Lesson Zero or Equestria Girls supportive friend Spike. That's where he's at his best. Focus more on developing the mane six, CMCs, and Discord since the writers have a better idea on how to do so. When it comes to developing Spike, they're clearly lost.

    To be honest, I'd live with it if he's written out of the EQG series. While he was great in the 1st one, he didn't do a whole lot or say a whole lot in the 2nd film aside from tracking down Vinyl to get the manes out from under the stage. You have to wonder if Cathy herself has a problem at any point with how Spike his written in the show.
