  1. I woke up having slept terribly due to the stress put on by the damage control I've had to do thanks to something my mother said, which I couldn't address because she was also having emergency spinal surgery today. To be upset with a loved one during such a critical moment is very unsettling for the body and mind. Her surgery was a success, so I can rest easy knowing she's ok, but there's work to be had. My girlfriend's cousin's birthday dinner was also this evening and that went pretty well.
  2. Ooh, this is a fantastic opportunity to explore a unique moment with deep cultural ties for a fictional character! I hadn't considered this for world building but what a way to go about it! Mine personally, SharpWit is catching an extra late flight out of Canterlot. He had to stay behind for some finalization of some proposed legislation so the offices of the capital are awfully quiet. Once he does make it to the station, he has to wait an extra hour for the weather to clear. An especially heavy snowfall was scheduled to make up for a loss of melt over the previous summer. Though it interferes with the timing of his airship, it's the least impactful as it would have the fewest passengers and isn't a connecting flight. He's tense from the cold, but boards the airship with excitement. Only four other passengers get on with him, on a vessel capable of holding a hundred with ease. One a unicorn, is instantly upset that the onboard cafe is closed for the evening, and begrudgingly pour themselves some from the lukewarm pot that's been left out. They use their magic to add three sachets of sugar and give it a swirl before grumbling to themselves off in a corner. Then there's the young couple who mind not the late hour or the cold, for the find warmth in each other, and to those not too bitterly hardened by the brunt of the day, that warmth is infectious via their coy whispers and hushed giggles. The final passenger is an older gentleman. He lands himself in a seat he's all too familiar with. Sharp has seen him a few times before, and as always, he's promptly passed out before they've even set off. Sharp strides to the front of the airship, smiles and nods at a tired crewmate who looks confused, before stepping back out into the cold, making his way to rest against the railing at the bow of the ship. The Captain finishes the same announcement he's heard many times before for the route, and off they go. The wind carries Sharp's mane back in a blaze of glory. It's freezing chill is no bother in the face of exhilaration, for here his responsibilities are left behind and the mind of a foal comes to the forefront. He will savor the sense of adventure until he finds his wings too stiff to shake loose the beard of ice that has grown about his maw. Then he will return to the cabin to thaw. Seeing the couple have drifted off as well, and that he may as well get some shut eye. Five hours from now, he'll be home, surrounded by loved ones who've saved the last of the marshmallows for his cup of cocoa.
  3. Probably secondary receiver of some grant money via their equivalent of a humane society. That's also why she could "afford" to take of so many animals, because their care and her efforts to provide it were covered/compensated for. Pretty decent gig if that's the life you want, but its round the clock.
  4. The day before I stayed up till 3AM to make a Pumpkin Curry with rice and get Started on Macaroni Muffins after getting home from work. The day of, we got up at 9:30AM, I finished the muffins, and we left the apartment a little before noon to go to my girlfriend's parents. Once there, we hung out and watched the National Dog Show, where her mom guessed the winning breed from the final 7 best in show for their category. Then we all left to my girlfriend's cousin's house who was hosting. I was surprised that we arrive pretty much before anyone else. The Cowboys Vs. the Chiefs game was on in the background, and after that it was switched to the Army Vs. Navy Football game. We hung out, ate turkey and variety of dishes. Got stuffed and felt stuffy from the heat being up too high, but that's how it is when you're mostly surrounded by seniors with anemia. I took some pictures of tiny flora and fauna as I traditionally do for a thanksgiving post. We then went home and after calling my mom and stepfather, went to bed "early" as we had been instructed to arrive back at my girlfriend's parents early for Black Friday Shopping. 8PM for her, 9:30PM for me, as I'm a night owl. We got up at 2:30AM, and arrived just after 4AM. We then went to one of our favorite donut chain locations, but they were closed, so we went to the next nearest one, and I'm pretty sur ewe were their first customers of the day. We then went to a JC Penny, as they were giving out free Snow Globes. The location is notoriously empty, so I joked that we could arrive just before closing and they would still have some. I was wrong though. There were 20 people ahead of us in line, and the guy before us had been there since 1AM! Another 30 something people got in line behind us at it drew closer to opening. We got our snowglobes, which much to @Snoopy Fan appreciation, were of snoopy sleeping upon the doghouse, though it lacked the christmas lights of your current pic. We were also each given a mystery coupon with three potential discounts. We all got the $10 off any $10 or greater purchase, and split it between some candles that had an additional by 3 for some kind of lower amount deal. We then went to a Target to try and get their swag bag. I really did not expect that line, but there must have been 200 people. The person in front of us was complaining about how a purchase wasn't required to get the bags, and I thought that was kind of a fair point. Also heard someone complaining who chose to wait by the front door rather than get in the line about how they weren't letting everyone in at once, which like, that's stupid. How are you not aware of the reputation of Black Friday Shoppers for stampeding? Anyways, we didn't get them because they only had enough for the first 100. Not completely sure what all came in them, I guess a few little goodies, but they also came with a ticket to redeem for a prize. We watched someone win a giant slushie machine, so quit ethe win on their part. I don't need or want one, but cool anyways. We ourselves didn't need anything, especially because other than the bags, there weren't really any deals taking place, so we used the restroom and left. After that was when I found out that no one had actually planned this adventure out, because the majority of places we evidently wanted to go to had either normal or later opening hours, so aside from these two attempts at prizes, there was no point in getting up early, so we spent the rest of it going to farther out locations to pass the time, and while a few things were purchased, no major deals other than Bath and Body Works where you could buy 3 things and get 4 free of equal or lesser value, so we got more candles. My girlfriend's mother is now most likely set for the year on those, and given that roughly comes out to under $10 per candle, I suppose it was worth it, only because they were all quite big, I was carrying like 20 lbs of wax. At the end we went back to their house, grabbed her father, went to the christmas tree farm that he's been going to for his entire life as his grandfather was friends with the original owner who has passed it down a few generations now. We probably picked out a tree in record time, then went out to eat at an old cafe, where the waitress was amused by our orders all being so different. Me wanting breakfast even though it was afternoon by this point. My girlfriend who ordered the vegetarian option, her brother ordering two desserts, her father ordering a regular burger, and I don't recall what her mom got, but still. We then went back to their place, where I took a nap filled with nightmares, and came down to the tree set up. We then decorated it, and went home after. We were still proper tired, so it was promptly off to bed. Now we're getting ready for a little outing with a dog that has complicated family connections for the day, and have "Thanksgiving Pizza" at my paternal Grandmother's house, before going to look at some christmas light displays. After that, our celebrations for this particular holiday should be over. TLDR; Cooked, ate some turkey, attempted some shopping, mild chaos, set up christmas tree, eating pizza at Grandma's with a doggy friend today.
  5. It's the day before Thanksgiving in the "Good Ol' US of A™" and many are hard at work in their kitchens getting ready for the holiday! My question for all of you is simply this. What will you be making/bringing this year? And if you don't celebrate for one reason or another, what's something you've made/brought from a past or upcoming gathering? I myself am planning on making Macaroni Muffins, a dastardly fusion of cheesy carbs, as well as a Pumpkin Curry.
  6. Update, they had to close one of the mountain passes temporarily because of a really bad head on collision involving 3 vehicles, and some others happened as well. Chains are now required, and it appears to just be dumping snow up there now. Nothing's changed in the lowlands.
  7. It's been 60 F/15 C here in the Pacific NW. Certainly been darker lately, good bit of rain and there's some snow building up in the mountains, but still mostly comfortable outside with an additional layer on. I'm shocked that we've only had two days with frost so far and neither needed scraping on the car.
  8. It didn't fail. Hasbro and Discovery Communications were equal co-owners until Discovery purchased a controlling share of the company. They rebranded it to Discovery Family and continue to air MLP content to this day. Had it been intentionally put up for sale entirely to be bought out due to bad ratings or an inability to profit from its content, then I would consider it a failure.
  9. Money aside, plenty of decent options from two wallets ago, but one thing I moved over from the next to the current one that hasn't/can't be replaced, was my late dog's collar tag. It's been in this wallet for not quite a year yet, but I've carried it in one for the last 9 years, and we would've had it made 17 years ago.
  10. Lol, that's a big ask my dude. Here's this for a start at least. Character appearances | My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Wiki | Fandom
  11. I'm in my kitchen holding a plate in front of the cupboard door from last night right before bed,,, so I'll be going back to bed after having just gotten up a bit ago, lol.
  12. In your past life, you were likely a: Seeker or Philosopher This past life role suggests that you may have developed skills and experiences related to seeker or philosopher in your previous incarnation. These traits may still influence your current life and personality. Personally I don't believe in past lives and reincarnation, and hardly think the numbers of one's birth date alone can determine much of anything about them. Current age, and time of year with location could tell you a bit more as that could clue you in to some cultural roots, but eh. Also I'm not big into philosophy unless there's lawyering involved because who doesn't love a little devil's advocacy? I do enjoy these little games though. Let's see what our future allegedly holds!
  13. I'm going to give each month a two point value. The full two if it was fully good, one if it was somewhat good but not all of it, and none if it was disappointing all around. January:2 February:2 March:1 April:2 May:1 June:1 July:0 August:1 September:0 October:1 Not counting November and December yet. 11/20 or 5.5/10
  14. Mint Milk is a thing!? GIMME!!! I was in the 5th grade when Barrack Hussein Obama was elected President, and I held a grudge against First Lady Michelle for some time because I blamed her kick for healthier practices in schools for being the reason we couldn't have strawberry milk anymore. In all likelihood it was just budget cuts, 2008 after all. Nonetheless, vending machines hadn't been around in my school district, nor would they ever be introduced. Now we did have a vending machine at my third place of employment, which was maintenance within the parks department! I went for the Reese's Fast Break Bars on days where I couldn't pack a lunch, because they had the most calories for my dollar.
  15. Hail Luna I actually found the answer to this! This is 1 of 25 versions given out to VIP Pass Holders during BronyCon 2013 at the Hasbro Booth after participating in voting for their favorite pony. Thank you old Ebay listings! My guess was that this was going to be from 2012 given the current state of politics and the way meme culture used to be, so not too far off! Had no idea this was a thing, never been to a one of our fandom's con's myself, so a neat and very niche bit of history! Fluttershy won by the way.
  16. The imaginary food from Hook comes to mind. But I will also include Lembas Bread from lord of the rings, and that one peanut from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. @Fluttershutter Inspired by Spencer from iCarly's spaghetti tacos, I have indeed served spaghetti on a wheat tortilla, and it's quite good. If done right, you even leave your plate spotless and can just rinse it before putting it back in the cupboard.
  17. Art and other forms of being creative I think fall into a unique category for being more likely to get one's cutie mark sooner rather than later. It can be hampered by a lack of encouragement or not having access to materials, but ultimately most artists make things they like, regardless of what others think, and are resourceful enough to find a medium one way or another. It's a passion that requires a lot from ourselves, but little else, and can begin at a very young age. It also nicely falls into the grouping of special talents that don't have to be put towards a career, though that'd be nice, and praise to those who do so successfully! As for age and cutie marks overall, I think there's two ways to go about it, and both are a little sad. Either they're supposed to appear when you're relatively young because it's not just skill, it's passion! Which has no connection to livelihood, they can appear generally at anytime, and it just takes a while longer for some to find out what that thing they're good at is. I'm all both, and they can even work together, if our cultural upbringing plays a role as well. What does your environment foster? Does a suppressed society eventually see little to no cutie marks altogether? Or if ponydom took place in our current setting, would we see a severe increase in late bloomers, and call it an epidemic as the youth just try to get by? In the latter I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't until college or beyond that a significant portion of the population got theirs.
  18. My first thought was the T-1000 But I'm going to have to say GLaDOS for personality.
  19. Many things, but the one I've missed frequently is this train going over a bridge at sunset from the freeway. I'll maybe capture the sunset, but right as I put my phone away is when the train comes, and the engine has fully passed by the time I have it back out.
  20. Qeqqata, Greenland. Pronounced like Centrum, Qeqqata is the third smallest of the nation's six municipalities in land area, and hosts a population of less than 10,000 distributed across 8 cities that can only be reached by plane or boat as there are no connecting roads.
  21. Imma add Beatrice from over the garden wall.
  22. @FluttersSez What is the last article of clothing you purchased? Where is the nearest pumpkin to you? If you live with anyone, would you be willing to hide one of that person's socks in the pocket of a coat or jacket they wear regularly? How many times do you push a crosswalk button? When will it rain next?
  23. I live in Washington State where our Pacific Science Center recently closed it's 40 year old Dinosaur exhibit. It contained 10 animatronics, some interactive fossil displays and dioramas, and many informative plaques. Most of the animatronics had fallen into some state of disrepair, with broken motors, worn out parts, flaking rubber and foam that had to be painted over, but even as still statues they were magnificent. With age their depiction became less accurate, and as much fun as the pop up animatronics that brief shopping mall parking lots and zoos, these had been a permanent display with a far greater amount of detail. One could even argue that their visage preserved a different way of thinking, a secondary window into the past that highlighted how far we've come in understanding these ancient beasts. My girlfriend and I went for one final visit during the final days. I reveled in the nostalgia, how I once fit comfortably within the footprint of a tyrannosaurus, and marveled at how even now these displays towered over me. I took hundreds of pictures, brushed my hands over every surface, took in the sights and sounds, every sense that had become so familiar during my childhood. I shared these memories, feelings, and ecstaticism. I could've stayed there for hours, overnight if they let me, but eventually it was time to leave. I held hands with the Allosaur, not wanting to let go. I smiled, thankful for the experience, and left in tears. Now lil ol me did a dum dum and sent my phone through a wash cycle without having had my photos synced, so there's a chance they're gone forever. I'm working on getting them recovered, but there's no certainty. I will forever have my cherished memories, and the fortitude to remake them as best I can, for my enjoyment and for those to come. Recently we also had the announcement that our local Reptile Zoo would be closing it's doors, due to difficulties in the extensive care the animals require and immense time that takes, in the face of low attendance. This establishment is one of a kind for our area, as it's been grandfathered in from a time when the trade of dangerous animals was still permitted. We went there as well, thinking it'd be our last time. Almost symbolically, a giant tortoise had spent the entire day digging a nest for eggs that would never hatch, as there was no means to care for them. Overburdened as they were, where could they find someone to rear a dozen exotic animals with special needs? It's important to keep places like this around, especially when there's really nothing else like them. When they're gone, they're gone. Luckily, the community responded, and they made enough in the span of two months to continue operations for at least another year. They are closing this next month for maintenance and cleaning, but we can be thankful that it will stay around for now, so long as we continue to visit.
