I definitely agree that it isn't healthy, but there are several areas in society where gender roles (and sexuality) determine survival or not. MLP, for the last dozen years, has been geared as a franchise towards little girls only. Despite the large male audience, MLP:FIM has been marketed towards little girls, too. To the brony-bashers, a male liking MLP:FIM is like a male liking Barbie, hence the "closet brony" status. And some people here DON'T comprehend that.

The closest I have seen to not getting it is some users who have aruged that using the term "closet brony" is inappropriate because it dosen't compare to the struggles of closeted homosexuals. But they miss the point that although it might not be as bad it is still pretty bad and I did try to make this point in a thread a week ago but sort of lost my temper and acted like a jackass.

strange.Do they make the same argument for closet atheist in religious communities. Comparisons to another issue doesn't solve anything,just indirect shaming of someones problem. The issue should be defined as a problem or not on a serious scale before being shamed by legitimate comparisons.
