      1. Freedom of speech (according to the U.S. Constitution) has ALWAYS meant that the government can't prosecute you or send you to jail unless you're damaging public/private property, damaging a draft card, yelling "fire" in a theater, libeling, committing perjury, etc. The government can't and won't prosecute Robertson for what he said: He didn't violate the 1st Amendment.

      It DOESN'T mean, however, that a private sector can't punish him for damaging the integrity of the brand, being called out for it, and get called a bigoted asshole for it. That's what A&E and intelligent society did. A&E suspended him, and he got called out for it.
