    I'm now at the point where I cringe at the idea of a Spike episode, because they're rarely anywhere close to average quality. Hell, I'm looking forward to EQG: Friendship Games in some capacity, because Spike was the best-written character in the last two films.

      ...Although that is probably due to the fact that the Mane 6 were so poorly-written in Equestria Girls.

      That helps, too. Nonetheless, Spike was written very well in EQG1. RR's Spike is a little weaker by being filler.
