  1. The "male" fans of My Little Pony? The MALE FANS?????

What the frick Ashleigh? Are you serious right now? Are you seriously doing this to us???

Female and non-binary bronies get erased by every group out there, a fact that not only pains us but strongly supports the stereotype that male bronies (or just bronies, as they're called by people who erase us) are disgusting sexist pigs. To see such a blatantly false and detrimental statement made in such a huge way is nothing short of revolting, and if I sound angry, it's because I very much am. This fandom will continue to be despised until people get it through their thick skulls that Brony is a gender-neutral term, and a documentary contradicting that will make things so much worse.

Shame on Ashleigh, shame on the makers of this thing

And while I'm at it shame on the people here saying that this makes our fandom look "autistic" as if being autistic is a bad thing. Spoiler alert: it isn't.

    /end rant

You have no idea how much I appreciated what you just said. If the point if this documentary is to once again play Pony Apologetics by putting a simplified face on a group of people, I will have much to say. Much.

Maybe I still a little annoyed by the fact that it was my two teenage daughters who succeeded in my investment in this show, which according to this documentary, means that the Brony population in my household is zero. I'm too old, and my kids are girls.

I'll withhold complete judgment until I see it, but it really needs to showcase a wider representation of this fandom.

And I agree that it's disheartening to see people upset that about the 'cast selection' and resorting to passive aggressive behavior here. Why do I get the feeling that people DO want a propaganda video to justify their enjoyment of MLP?

  2. Yep, this fits my mental image of Rarity's reaction to visiting a place like Versailles. Twilight apparently has no appreciation for French architecture.

  3. I personally believe we have been living in a new renaissance of media, so I don't know how to answer this. Video Games are now taking an ever increasing narrative approach. It's not just the bleeps and bloops any more. ;) I can list dozens of TV shows (drama, comedy, animation) that continue to raise the bar. Even the ones that are popular but have serious flaws like Walking Dead are better than the drivel that was on eight years ago.

My Little Pony isn't great because of the less than stellar field. It's a quality show that stands on it's own merits.

  4.

Also, I'm trying to cover it in Mario Paint, but I had to download sheets just for the bass notes.

Sorry what? I was having a hard time taking my eyes off what look like Fendors in the background.

    :)

  5. Awwh I love them both. I had to go with Fluttershy though. The voting is so close, but I really hope Fluttershy wins. Ugh, this vote choice at me at :(

Tell me about it. From here on out it is going to surprising difficult. I actually thought at first this match would be easy for me, but all told Fluttershy is really hard to vote against. I suspect that even for some fans that identify with her (like you), when she faces against any of the remaining characters in the tourney, it will still be done with a pensive mind. This happened to be when Scootaloo faced off against Pinkie Pie. I had to write a paragraph or two for Fluttershy just to ease my conscience.

    :)

Whatever is left of the writer in me is why I gravitated to Luna in general. A recurring character like her (at least in children's animation) is traditionally ascribed only a few base character traits. In fiction, she would be a second cousin to a walk-on character. Thanks to M.A. Larson, Corey Powell, and Dave Polsky the character escaped this sentence. Even her two cursory appearances in Princess Twilight and Twilight's Kingdom reinforced already established characterization.

Luna's fall and transformation to Nightmare Moon is a popular trope in mythology and popular modern storytelling. Nothing particularly special there. What is special is Luna Eclipsed.  It would have been easy to write the character as a more regal and less approachable Celestia. No. What Larson and co did with that script still impresses me. They distilled the awkwardness of isolation and the desire to be socially accepted that many of us experience(d) in adolescence ... into ... 22 ... freaking ... minutes. The most remarkable thing is that they did this without the using the trope that "you shouldn't change who you are". Luna's inability to immediately connect to those around her led to her misunderstanding their motivations and fed into her insecurities. Insecurities? In a Princess? On My Little Pony?????

The remaining writers took that growth and parlayed it to even greater heights. Luna helps to guide young fillies through their own insecurities. The use of that character in Sleepless in Ponyville and For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils was inspired. Her backstory, the knowledge that she still carries with her guilt and pain, and is specifically using that to prevent the same isolation from friendship and love in others ... this is mythology at it's best.

    Also, Canterlot Voice rules.

  6. <snip>

Indeed! A final between Rarity and Applejack would be intense though, but a hopefully friendly match. :o:)

I have every confidence it would be. The central members of both fan clubs that have been active in the World Cup voting are very vocal without being negative to the other team. In fact, members of Rarity and AJ Clubs have gone out of their way to highlight positive traits of the opposing teams' characters. Should an AJ vs Rarity match occur ... it would be conducted with the same mutual respect ... but with each team focused on putting their girl on top.

  7. There are services that allow you to mass create email accounts. It is a legitmate email, but you can mass create hundreds of uniqe ones, and the admins do not have the power to track the ip that created those email accounts. You can't really get much done with an email account they made using a mass creation service, and unless they are violating felony law, no law enforcement agency is going to track down those emails.

Create fake emails+fake accounts+ip cycles= abuse of the system.

Agreed, and even the Admins and Mods would understand that there are households with legitimate multiple members, like mine.

Anyway, back to the match at hand. Fluttershy is perhaps the most infectiously adorable character in MLP. There are some that would say that would be the base summary of her character; that her tears and huggable nature are all that there is to her. I would posit that her characterization goes far deeper than that. There is a reason that Fluttershy could not be easily corrupted by Discord, and that Celestia would later rely on her to reform the one creature that she herself had to resort to imprisonment. Fluttershy's empathy for others around is her most admirable aspect of her being. This virtue is probably what I love most about her. She stands firm, unflinching in her desire to understand and reach out, regardless of the dangers and logic to the contrary.

The fans of the yellow one have every reason to be proud of her. If I knew more Fluttershys in this world ... I dare to think that I would know heaven. It pains me to have to vote for Luna over her. I'll discuss my reasons for voting for the Princess of the Night in a later post, but I wanted to tell the Fluttershy fans this

While my vote goes to Luna ... Flutters gets a fragment of my heart.

  8. The matches were randomized at the group stages, and then the group winners and runner ups were supposed to face each other as per FIFA World Cup regulations.

Actually, that was entirely possible... Pinkie Pie had the possibility of facing a Mane 6 character if the draw had gone a certain way.

Can't wait until tomorrow Sterling. You may may want to turn notifications off on this thread.

  9. THAT FACE.

    IT'S PERFECT!

...Oh and here's one of my favorite Rarity pics:

(I'm on phone so I don't know if it works)

Oh that worked alright. Joelletherose is now on my DA watch list.

Just realized that the first m6vm6 is tomorrow (AJ vs Pinkie), and Luna vs Flutters looks really interest. The craziest thing is that from what I can tell Rarity may not face a Mane 6 until only four remain. The seeding favors the fabulous.

  10. Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

    I miss that show. :(

    Imma friend you now!

Seriously, that is one unsung show. There is actually a web comic that was produced that takes places in the years after the show ended. It does an amazing job at continuing the story. I miss most of the Disney Afternoon shows. They really need to revisit Gummi Bears and C&D.

  11. Even though I loved the NMR arc, I'm resolved to not seeing Rarity and the Nightmare corruption of her as the same character. I actually think that since Rarity was turned due to her fear of being forgotten and no longer needed ... there was more of a rift internally than there would have been with Luna/ NMM.

But yes, Nightmare Rarity was a great villian! The resolution was great storytelling.

  12. Oh, and here's a pic of Rare's in front of the Statue of Liberty (not sure if it has an Equestrian name)

Also happy independence day to you Amerika guys.

Thats the only fitting image i could find... :muffins:

  13. I found it funny, personally :D I kind of like how it was a light swipe at our fanbase - I kind of think it's something we should embrace, just for the lolz. It's not like, mega-insulting or hurtful in any way, but I think it's a light enough jab to where it'd be a fun thing to play along with :D

We're a fashionist nation at the Rarity Fan Club :D

By the power of all that is good and holy, I declare this officially a great idea.

Welcome to the forums and such. My experience here has shown me that a lot of the members here (myself included) do not fit the 'typical' stereotype of a Brony.

    Welcome and enjoy the experience.

  15. It takes a real special game to make me want to Platinum or get 100%. I'm a bit of a lawnmower type since I have don't have the time I can dedicate to 100% a bunch of game. That said, I swear I will eventually with Ni No Kuni.

Reads above me. @Starshine ... you got 100% on Persona 4. That game is like the never ending story (amazing though) and you got 100%?

    Impressive
