  1. How did you find MLP Forums?: With a great degree of difficulty...Not really, I was searching for any Pony-cons in my area and lo and behold the link lead me here.

How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: By taking the plunge one day and watching the show. Not to mention I'm a sucker for a good story.

    Greetings Forum! New Forumite here!

    A little about me...

I'm, of course, a fan of the show.

I'm also a fan of another fast blue daredevil by the name of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Love Mustangs i.e. P-51 D and my dream car; A '67 Fastback in dark green.

Also a bit of a military history buff.

Yea I know, strange combination right? Military History + Sonic Fan + MLP Fan = Me

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to find a certain rainbow maned Pegasus to challenge to a race... *starts up P-51*

Welcome. Good taste is cars! All are welcome ... but Mil Hist scholars get a complimentary gift basket!

  2. I think that their similarities have different motivations and genesis (what the is the plural of genesis anyway? I should know that!)

Yes, they are both stubborn at times, athletic, and competitive. It's the competitive part that I think is most uniquely portrayed in RD.

We've seen shades of it in Rarity, Pinky, Twilight ... but it manifests as an internal drive as opposed to external like Dash. Yes, Applejack is competitive, but she's also internally driven due to an important role she plays in her family and the community. It's an important distinction because it makes her a little more like Rarity and Twilight since it is part her a strong work ethic.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that RD is the one that usually instigates any friendly competition with AJ. Not that any of this is bad, it just makes her unique. The others could benefit from a little dose of confidence at times

  3. Derpy vs. Rarity ... Oh Boy.

Well my household is going to split that vote if my daughter stumbles on there. She's a pretty die hard Derpy fan.

    @@Obsidian Sky,

Love the photo and ficlet. I'm a fan of the philosophy that the more difficult path can be the more fulfilling one. Trying to maintain a cutting edge fashion boutique in a provincial town definitely counts as taking the road less travelled.

  4. hmmm i never knoticed that before. they might have done that porpously. i mean have you seen transformers 3? it has soooo many Spock refrences and Leonard Nimoy was Sentinel prime so it could be that's what they did.

And Nimoy was the original Galvatron in 1986 ;)

As far as the Discord/Q Nod I have this to say

    1. Yes. I accept this as truth

    2. Yes. I can now throw away the whole idea that it was a shipping fan reference

I am forever in your debt!

  5. Oh Yes, and it really is more of a natural progression. When I first took a look at the show I only saw a handful of episodes and since it didn't click with me at the time I didn't have a Best Pony. I however did have one character that I dismissed out of hand.

The second chance re watch of FiM found me at first gravitating to Twilight and Applejack since I actually identify with them more (Science/Book Nerd and Family/Work Ethic).

Then something odd started to happen. The Pony I had rejected years prior had begun to amaze me. The acting, writing, and characterization of Rarity won me over more and more. She overtook the rest and I found myself re watching Ratity centric Episodes more than the rest. But I still had a tie between Pinkie, AJ, and Rarity. Then last week I finally read the Nightmare Rarity comic arc.

That last issue was what put me over. To me Rarity has a dynamic depth to her portrayal. Not going to do a character study here though. I do find it ironic that I didn't even call myself a Brony until I caught my self humming Art of the Dress, from an episode that would have sold me on this show years ago had I seen it.

So yeah, Rarity is my favorite. But I do not dislike ANY of the Mane 6.

  6. No, G1 doesn't ponify words and phrases. However, not only do G1 ponies look more like ponies, they act like them too. There's even hints that G1 ponies age like 'normal' horses too!

Gotcha. I was honestly curious. While I was never a fan of G1 at the time, the art style never really bugged me. It's just different and I prefer Lauren Fausts concept better.

On a related note, I kinda get where you're coming from. I'm a huge G1 Transformers fan (also Hasbro and Sunbow) and when Beast Wars came out I remember thinking that they should just drop the whole Transformers branding because it just didn't feel like TF. In fact, I still feel that every version of that franchise after G1 pales by comparison, even though the writing is probably better in some if the later series'.

  7. Uhhhh, CSTRIKER OF COURSE!!

I'm not sure what I am signing up for, but it's Rarity and I am on board!

Those are amazing! What's the deviantID? And please tell me the artist takes commissions!

  8. The cost to rebrand at this stage would lead to a nightmare scenario for Hasbro. My Little Pony is more recognizable and easier to market that just FIM. Brand confusion is hard to undo.

Just had a thought. I know that RPB might be able to answer this. Did G1 have the characters ponify words and intertwine equine habits and behaviors with the world? G4 does this well, and even if they don't look like Ponies as much to you, that should count for something.
