I only remember seeing her become pictures, similar to text on the pages. Gumby goes into fully explorable worlds. If he goes into a history book, he's basically time travelling.

@Sparklefan1234 He's actually been squished before and reformed just fine.
His greatest fear would probably be more like drying out or being cooked, since he's made of clay.
