I have often wondered this too. Apparently every other land in that world is also a monarchy which is odd.

in Equestria it's odd to have monarchy beacuse well magic also we are given no clear orign of the royal sisters and there existence that or im over ayalsing

Well, they were there 1000 years ago, so they are probably immortal. (They might not be, and just have very long lifespans... :/ ) And they are like a mix between all the pony races, so it makes sense that they are on top. :/
