      Swedish, was planned since WW2, they needed a tank for their country and that was it. It's classed as a Main Battle Tank and is unusual in design for one, it was developed in the 1950s. But due to the sheer cost to make one it took along time to eventually make, the motto was something to do with expensive for quality or no price too high for good quality. It was very expensive for its time is what I am getting at is the Swedish believed that only the most expensive would ensure the best result.
