  1. I wife I had a real job, like a carpenter or something, instead of being a corporate excel pusher. Parents were wrong, office jobs aren't the best ones. Nor necessarily.

I know how it feels to have work get the better of you sometimes. I don't think I could ever manage an office job though.. I'd need something to mix up the day, not just sit in one place for 8 hours. It's why I left my IT job as soon as I could. But then some people are the exact opposite. They can't stand the idea of being outside their cushy office or having to deal with people on the floor.

Would you ever consider changing vocations or getting training in something else you enjoy? Is it feasible?

Heh, I for once can't stand the clients. Okay, people in general but, same difference. I'm okay with doing stuff in excel the whole time if the atmosphere is okay, and my superiors are on the "we need to find and punish the guilty" side of management.

I like managing contracts with the public health care payer, but it's hard to land a job where you do only that. While I could probably get some paid courses to gain extra skills,  it would take months and some serious sums to become sufficiently versed to become employable in the new field.

All in all, it's more about people in the job rather than the job itself that gets to me.
