    fandom q+a Ward Jenkins Q&A

Well, Lauren doesn't really work on the show anymore, listed only as "developed for television by..." and was the initial creator & producer. So, I did not have a chance to work with her, nor had I worked with her before. Would love to, though! Some day.

Sorry I'm behind on this! Trying to catch up on each and every question!

    fandom q+a Ward Jenkins Q&A

    1. Yes! 2. The future of MLP will hold more adventure, more fun, more hijinks, more drama, more laughter, more friendship, more magic! That pretty much covers it all! Ha! Oh, I KNEW this would come up! haha - well, I really don't know how to answer that one since all of the Mane 6 have certain qualities that appeal to me in different ways. But if I had to pick one, I might pick Twilight - but only because I tend to pick the leader of a group. For instance, my favorite of the Powerpuff Girls was Blossom, mainly because she seemed to be the leader. I dunno what that says about me.

    fandom q+a Ward Jenkins Q&A

It was great! I really enjoyed working with the directors, the storyboard supervisors, and co-storyboard artists (most of whom I interacted with the most) - they were all incredibly fun and energetic! I only wished that I had the chance to work with them in person (we did a lot of Skype conference calls, etc.). It's pretty daunting, to tell you the truth, but I tried to not worry too much about it. All I had to do was stay focused on the story at hand and make sure I was doing the best job I could do and to make it entertaining.

    fandom q+a Ward Jenkins Q&A

I do play, but not as much as I'd like to! My son has an XBox, so we have our share of games on that platform - Minecraft, Lego LOTR, Lego Star Wars, Lego Harry Potter, Titanfall, Halo 4 and now Portal 2. I don't really play that much, but when I do, I'm playing after watching my son play a lot. Haha

    fandom q+a Ward Jenkins Q&A

Hi Simon, and thank you for that nice intro! I received an email from a person in the HR department (human resources) from DHX Media, way back in April of this year, asking me if I was available to do some storyboards - my name was given to them from a friend of mine who I've known for a long time - he was a recruiter for artists for some animation studios, and he knew that I would probably be a good fit for the studio. Besides saying yes, I am available, I had to do a test - which was interesting in and of itself because I had never done a storyboard test. I did that over a weekend (and probably a few extra days) and then submitted the test to DHX. The waiting was excruciating! I had to wait about a week or two - can't remember - but when I got the call, I was out with my family eating pizza and suddenly turned to them all and said, "guess who's going to be the next storyboard artist for My Little Pony!" Everyone was thrilled. That was a great moment for me!
  7. Oh, boy. I really hope I'm not a big disappointment!
  8. Really, that's great! Which books? This is one of the main reasons I wanted to do this Q&A - I don't see too many artists from the show taking questions, so I thought I'd say hi and answer questions from fans. Especially those who might want to go into the animation industry.
  9. Somehow I knew that the Leroy Jenkins reference would somehow show up! Haha By the way, very much looking forward to this event!
  10. I never said that. My apologies if you thought that. I was merely explaining what I've seen on Twitter in regards to interaction with MLP show artists & writers.
  11. If you go on Twitter sometimes they'll do a Q&A - some of the writers, directors and other artists - as long as the questions aren't too spoilery. As long as it's done in a civilized manner (like not asking too personal questions and not being a troll) then they're more than welcome to give answers.
  12. I'm pretty sure that these examples are all coincidental. I can't imagine writers stalking forums and/or blogs, Deviantart, etc. for ideas - and especially not if there's a chance for getting canned on the show. The stakes are way to high to risk that. All the episodes are written well in advance before they're aired. We're talking a year - year and a half.
  13. Right - I was a member of the Iron Giant Messageboard back when the movie was first released in 1999 (old man, I know) - and several artists who worked on the film were constant posters. They also did Q&A, etc. I loved it. It was great to see what went into making the movie, as well as hear from people who were in the know. I ate it up. I know on Twitter, MLP director (Big) Jim Miller responds to questions about the show, as long as they aren't spoilery.
  14. Oh, absolutely - totally get that. However, I'm sure it's fine if they're lurking.
  15. Was curious to know if there are any artists, etc. who actually work on the show here on the MLP forums? That you know of?
  16. If you notice none of the ponies have "sticky hoof" syndrome - they are never allowed to hold objects unless it's for comedy (like Pinkie Pie). The showrunners try to instill in the fact that these are ponies and have pony qualities. Unless, of course, they're unicorns, who'll use magic to "hold" objects. But the rest of the ponies will either hold something under their arm, or use their teeth.
  17. Thanks again for the nice welcome, guys! I'm an old school animator - I still draw with pencils and scan the drawings and do digital ink & paint via Photoshop. I composite by using After Effects. I'm currently working on storyboards right now - also done in Photoshop, but instead of pencils/pens, etc. I draw directly into the computer with my Wacom tablet. I also have a Cintiq, but I'm not using that right now. I think I need a new stylus, which aren't cheap! I've directed a few commercials in the past, and have illustrated children's books as well. Trying to keep busy.
  18. Thank, guys! Looking forward to chatting with you all! Btw, do you know if anyone who works on the show are members of the forum here? Just curious.
  19. How did you find MLP Forums?: How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Been working in the animation industry for a while now. I'm usually very busy so my time here will be sporadic, but I do like the MLP fan community and enjoy seeing the creativity and enthusiasm that the show brings from people of all ages.
