-This is a script for a video I'll be making once I get my editing software installed. I thought I'd share it with you guys!-
Hello my little cupcakes! It's Senpai Pinkamena here. Today I'll be talking about a topic that I'm sure you're all aware of. Bronies. For starters, you may be asking, What is a brony? The word "Brony" itself is formed of the words "Bro" and "Pony". It usually refers to male fans of My Little Pony ages 13 and up, although it can be used to describe all fans of the show. If you can't already tell, I am a brony(Or Pegasister, as some female fans of the show prefer to be called). I've been a fan of the show for about two years now, since about December 2013, around when the Equestria Girls movie was released on Netflix.
But we're not here to talk about me, are we?
I'll be talking about why bronies like a show filled with pastel horses, and why "anti-bronies" dislike the fans.
First, the bronies.
The term "Brony" and the first bronies themselves started on 4chan, an anonymous chatting website. When the show was released, male fans of the show began talking and eventually came up with the name "Brony".
There is a multitude of reasons that Bronies like the show. One of them being the animation style and colors. MLP is a very colorful, fun show, and uses aesthetics to it's advantage. The animation is often used for comedy effects, and used to show emotion in the characters. Fans often praise it for it's unique style and approach to the My Little Pony franchise.
Another reason we love the show is the complex, unique characters. Each character has their own development. They're each given a backstory, and aren't just one-dimensional, perfect characters with no personality or depth. For example, Rarity may seem like your typical "Girly-Girl" who only cares about fashion and is afraid to get her hooves dirty. She's been shown to be generous and caring, have actual family values, and isn't afraid to go on an adventure. Pinkie Pie may seem like just a crazy, hyperactive pony that exists for nothing but comic relief. But she can buckle down an be serious if need be, and has shown character development and has been vital to the plot in multiple episodes. Characters such as these are what makes the show so fantastic. And why anyone of any age watches it.
The last of the most popular reasons bronies watch MLP is the plot. The show is based on strong heroine characters that are not only fighting off the forces of evil, but are reforming some of them too. But some in the show are never reformed, and that's a great life lesson. Not every bad person can be changed. And MLP shows children (and adults) just that. On the subject of life lessons, MLP is full of them. Every episode. Lessons about friendship and life overall. Lessons that kids and adults still need to learn. This aspect is one of the most important in MLP.
Now you're asking, "When do we get to see inside the head of an anti-brony"?
Whoa, there! I never said that. But I will share a sort of "theory" perhaps, about them.
Why do people hate on bronies? I'll give you one word.
Order.
In the society we humans live in, We need order. This is where gender roles slipped into our lives. When an idea of natural order has entered our brains, it becomes routine. When someone messed withyour routine, you get angry. Bronies mess with our assumed gender roles (Also some ageist stuff in there, but we'll get to it later). Anti-bronies will see these gender roles that are set in stone for them all their lives being torn apart by these grown men who watch ponies, and they go berserk.
As humans, we assume certain things to certain ages, as well. Like dolls being for toddler girls, or plastic cars being for toddler guys. The gender thing applies here too. If someone likes a show usually geared toward little girls, they'll assume some stupid stereotype or whatever.
But we don't have to think that.
So if you don't like bronies, I suppose you are entitled to that opinion. But you don't have to constantly spread hate and negativity about it. It's just a cartoon. Why should you care whether or not someone likes a carton or not?
This is Senpai Pinkamena, signing out. I'll see you later!
