  1. Well, I think there are more great games on the SNES than the N64 from what i have seen, but there are just those few games like Ocarina of time, Majoras mask, Donkey kong 64 and Mario 64
Don't you dare forget Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye 007, Star Fox 64, Kirby 64, Super Smash Bros., Mario Party, Pokémon Stadium, etc... The 64 truly stood the test of time and fared well against it's competitors (well, mostly the PS1 since the Sega Saturn was pretty much a bust).

Home to some of the most iconic and historic video games on one system, the N64 is one of the greatest consoles of all time, and definitely one of my personal favorites.

  2. Ah, nothing like the joys of experiencing the unspeakable sensation that is nostalgia. And especially with a unique entertainment medium such as video games, the possibilities are endless.

I'm more than happy to know that you are fully enjoying the system. I personally think the Super Nintendo was one of the greatest systems of all time (beats out the mighty Sega Genesis ever so slightly). One of the many, many elements of gaming that make me wish I was born during that time, when the now-classic games was then-new, so I could see the evolution of one of the world's greatest industries from the start.

As for the games, all amazing classics. SMW was the game that revolutionized platforming, and its sequel, Yoshi's Island, was in a league of its own; spawning off the epic platforming charm that made SMW such a legend. Both are technically part of my childhood, as I played the GBA remakes (Super Mario Advance 2 and 3, respectively) growing up.

As for SMAS, I'd say it's great in the sense of it being a then-modern makeover of the four original Mario games. Needless to say, it must've took a heck a lot of data to put in the SNES cartridge. Though, that could be saying the potential of an SNES cart is equivalent to four times that of an NES cart. But who knows. It's a good game anyways.

In conclusion, I end this long-winded comment by saying I hope you enjoy your nostalgic experiences to the fullest potential, and never forget the priceless memories you have had in your past years.

  3. Simply, different fandoms' activity rely on what kind of fandoms they are, and what content from the company's franchise is released and when, as well as how often.

Harry Potter, for instance, relies on mainly the movie releases, as well as video games, toys, special books, etc.

The Legend of Zelda relies on the video games primarily, each big release stirs up the fanbase quite good.

My Little Pony has toys, but now is obviously the big shot when it comes to the television series. It's what spawned its massive fandom, and nothing will ever change that.

The status of any kind of fanbase is unpredictable, but with one like MLP, it's near impossible to tell where this fandom is going. I'm not looking forward to halting my ongoing passion of the show anytime soon.

  4. Wow. Talk about harsh demands.

I think you're doing the right thing by not taking the risk looking for every and any way possible to get Skype. I'm glad you're doing this, hopefully it benefits academically.

Good luck, and have a good time with the rest of college.

It's also good to know you'll be on now and then, though. :3

  5. @Cranium That kind of GBC-to-console emulation would be awkward as heck.

Besides, they're only looking at the main series games with this one, not spinoffs.

This was a great compilation/lookback of the Kirby franchises, one of my favorites of all time.

The History part is surprising, not just the depth and attention payed to all the different games, but all the non-Nintendo related trivia. Not groundbreaking, just something that really stands out here. The games are neat because they give you information, art, a video, and (my personal favorite) the box art for each, so that's really cool. No game is left behind! It's also cool that they offer three episodes from the Kirby anime, all being based on a different character each.

The selection of playable titles is amazing (heh, imagine if they jut gave us 10 minute trials each and not fully playables?). Every now and then I think "Oh, there could've been more, like Air Ride or something", then I realize that with what they have now (2 Game Boy Games, an NES game, 2 SNES games, and a N64 game), it's already a buckton of data they crammed in a single disc. I only have yet to play Dream Land 2 and 3 (the rest I have on Virtual Console or 3D Classics), but it's nice to have all the others. Not a fan of the bulgy texture instead of sharp pixelation, but hey, they can only do so much.

The extra challenges in my eyes are a good addendum to RTDL (Magolor even mentioned the ending. ...canon?...anyone?...>,>). The controls for this (or rather, the whole game because it works entirely) when using the Classic Controller (my preferred) feels awkward because this game wholly is made for the WiiMote. The controls for the RTDL engine translate okay, but they should've done this in the original (if it even lacked Classic Controller support, I forget). Even so, I'm more than glad they let you use it all the time in Dream Collection.

The CD is amazing, kinda of what they did for Zelda's 25th anny, except all of the tracks on that were orchestral reduxes, and on the Kirby CD contains mostly ripped original tracks, which is also fine.

The book is really cool as well, probably the print version of Kirby's History, except with all art, and it's beautiful.

I'll never forget the simplicity and fun of the Kirby games, and there's not a good reason to forget it. It's unforgettability is the reason why this game was made,to celebrate every single memorable aspect in the series. This is without a doubt a perfect shot for looking back on this wonderful franchise. I'm glad that you have it, and I wish everyone else could as well. This time capsule of a video game should be in every household.

On a side note, I'd like to state that I'm very happy with the fact they didn't leave out Super Star Ultra from 2008. It was my first Kirby game, and undoubtedly one of the best, despite being a remake. It shows that Nintendo is really dedicated to pulling out all the good stops to make their fans happy. That game will always be treasured by me.

  6. Let me just start by saying, as an uber Nintendo fan as well as being an uber racing fan, the Mario Kart series is the perfect combo. Not only is one of my favorite Mario spinoff franchises as well as favorite racing franchises, I find it to be one of the best franchises overall.

I cannot express my passion for it, it's only natural I own all of them. I only wish I had to motivation to put every single loving aspect of them into lengthy words at the moment.

(What a coindence, the franchise turned 20 just a couple weeks ago!)

Anyways, picking my favorite is just too hard, so I will just go along in chronological order.

Super Mario Kart- Ah, the classic. It all started with the blurry soon-to-be failed concept of a 2-player F-Zero game, which was very popular at release but was lacking multiplayer functions. So, after fooling around with a graphic that looked like a "generic guy in overalls", they decided to transform that into a Mario-themed go-kart racing game. And boy, the revolution it made. It worked wonders with the SNES' trademark Mode 7 technology. With tons of power ups, quirks, tracks, characters, this is easily one of the greatest Mario spin-off games of all time. It's easy, great fun.

Mario Kart 64- This is one of my favorites. The one that probably truly peaqued the success of the series. Actual 3D environments, 2D character sprites (most likely because they didn't want to test the polygon amount, or they were just lazy. Either way, it doesn't bother me at all.) All the tracks are vastly unique, added a crazy 4-player multiplayer mode, altogether one of the best of the N64 classics. An absolute must-have in every 64 collector's stash.

Mario Kart Super Circuit- Back to the basics. Limited technology by the GBA compared to the previous Mario Kart console, the game feels a little like both its predecessors. 2D sprites like MK64, gameplay handling like SMK, and a slightly better quality sound chip to the SNES, so it sounded a bit better, too. Also, the voice clips are from MK64 (some from the Japanese version), thanks to the system's capabilities. Anyways, altogether, this is the one that's meant the most to my childhood, so it ranks pretty high for me.

    Mario Kart Double Dash!!- Possibly the most unique, and definitely one of the best. Two characters instead of one. Surely it wouldn't be an idea that would stick with the series forever, but it was good to bring it out. It just makes it a fun edition to the gameplay. Though, if there's one thing I have to say, the Rainbow Road in this one is mercilessly evil. ;_;

Mario Kart DS- Another one I grew up playing. Again, the graphics and eveything else are downgraded from the previous installment, but that does not mean it is any less fun. Introducing retro tracks, mission mode, custom emblems, dual-screen action, an epic soundtrack (though all of them do, this one stands out a little IMO), and finally carrying on the general gameplay engine and feel from DD!! to be used throughout the rest of the installments to the present, I'd say this is definitely another one of the best MK games. Plus, Wireless Multiplayer. Epic fun.

Mario Kart Wii- Ah, I remember being hyped for this one. The series finally returns to the home console once again to dominate. Although the Wii has nearly the same amount of power and potential as the GC, it doesn't look nor play much different. Stunts and bikes I think we're the only two primary new additions. The karts and bikes were interesting, and the roster was jumbo-sized. I'd say it's pretty high up there for me.

Mario Kart 7- The last one currently to be released is definitely not the least. Finally for the 3D console, this game delivers yet another fresh dose of Mario Kart action, nothing less. This one feels limited, though, no VS. mode, no mission mode, no bikes (though they were probably never meant to be), and some music is either borrowed or remixed from MKW. Which isn't bad, it just seems less productive to me. The new first person cam is welcomed, and really cool. I hope they make a huge change in the possible coming installment for the Wii U.

And...I didn't need to write all that, but I did. I guess I just really like the series.

  7.

Don't worry, everyone has things that make them ashamed of themselves as a gamer. I didn't ever play the great Nintendo systems. Did I let get me? No. You don't have to either.

    Your blog is still perfect.

Yeah, thanks; I figured I'd get over it eventually, I mean, heck this is my drowsy self. Who knows, maybe my more awake self, which is alive in about 8 hours, as I'm about to go to sleep, knew all along, but didn't have the guts to tell its alter ego, me, because it would keep it a solid plot that isn't cliche where the main protagonist is actually friends with his alter ego, which wold be the twist of a lifetime...

    ...

Alright, I'm going to bed right now...

  8.

Excellent. It sounded just like both characters, and almost like a well-written fanfiction. I enjoyed most of your story descriptions for the pictures, they were quite interesting. And your positive opinions about the art were a joy to read. I think you have earned a follower.

From admiring and watching over similar works like this of his, I found him to be one of the greatest caption workers I've ever seen. He just does an immeasurably amazing job when it comes to roleplaying/speaking in character.

Heck, that doesn't even begin to describe what I feel when I read his fanfics.

  9. Doubts? Uh...er...

*looks around rapidly and finds a piece of paper entitled "Doubts pertaining to Dislogically Distastic", crumples it up, and throws it in a nearby trashcan, which gets thrown in a dump truck, which crashes into a FedEx truck, sends the trashcan flying into it somehow, the truck drives aboard an airplane, which takes off, and does kamikaze-style into the Indian Ocean*

    ...

    What doubts?
