    D! Lou Gehrig’s number 4 was retired in July of 1939, Babe Ruth’s was retired in June of 1948, DiMaggio’s 1952,  and Cal Ripken He’s number was retired in 2001. Gehrig also had the honor of being the first number in baseball history to be retired.
