  1. "Is there something you require?" The Lunar Thestral asked rather formally. His partner next to him bumped him, their dark armor clinking together softly. The first turned to his partner, clearly asking a question through his expression.

The second Thestral sighed. "Weren't you there for tonight's briefing?"

When he received a head shake, he sighed again. "This is Winter Bolt. The Princess wants to speak with him. You would have known if you woke up in time."

The first guard retorted with a slight smile. "I'm a Thestral and our Sergeant woke us up during the day. Is it really any surprise I went back to sleep?"

The second turned to Winter, ignoring his companion's comment. "Princess Luna wishes to meet with you. If you continue out the door to your left and into the gardens, you'll find her in the center, by the small pond. Be warned, she may seem alone but she is not. Make any threatening moves against her and you may end up in the hospital, or worse."

The Guard pointed to his right, Winter's left, toward a pair of large doors that had been propped open for the night. Outside, a well-lit courtyard was clearly visible, as well as sounds of mingling ponies clearly heard. "I don't think you have anything to worry about, though. You don't seem the traitorous type."

  2. "Winter Bolt?" The Guard read from the invitation. "From what I heard, Princess Luna was eager to meet with you again. I'm not sure why, though. If you do see her, be careful. The Lunar Guard are far more protective of her then you'd think. It's like they're fanatics protecting their goddess."

The greeter went silent with a chuckled as he was bumped lightly by one of his partners, to which he replied. "Fair enough."

As he hoofed the invitation back to Winter, he added a last bit of advice. "I can see you're nervous. Don't be. There aren't many influential ponies here tonight; this isn't like that anymore. It's a party to celebrate another year of life, not a party for nobles to make more money."

As before, the Guards raised their polearms and allowed Winter Bolt to pass into the Castle proper.

  3. No need. You already explained it well enough with his tendency to forget minor information. Even then, if I'm the one who makes a mistake, don't worry about altering your posts. I'll simply roll with it; something I have experience with as I'm a DM among my D&D party. Please call me out on any mistakes I may make, though, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Notice: From this point forward, the characters may split up, or they may remain together. I'll be replying to each one as a unit, so there's no need to wait for me to bring the attention to your character. Simply say what your character has done, and I'll reply, making it clear it is for your character.

  4. "Blue Thorn, correct?' The Guard asked rhetorically, for his name was clearly displaced on the elaborately-written golden invitation. "Personally invited by Princess Celestia, no less. There weren't many of you; I think she invited about ten to the party, with her sister inviting another six."

Tonight was a night of festivity; the Guards had been told to abandon the usual stonefaced expressions they were well-known for. Some of the Guards took the order in stride, simply speaking as normal ponies. Others, though, were unused to it and were clearly awkward. This greeter was not one such pony.

"In any case, go on ahead. Unlike last year, the Gala isn't really in the ballroom anymore. It's spread throughout the palace grounds as well as a number of gardens and rooms. Don't worry about going somewhere you aren't allowed to; there's barriers in place to stop that. Have a nice night, Mr. Thorn."

The other Guards levitated their polearms away, allowing the pony passage deeper into the Castle. In clear site stood Princess Celestia, though several Guards flanked her.

"Mind your manners." The greeter added, as in afterthought.

  5. @Loud Opinion First, don't worry about tagging me. I receive a notification each time someone replies to this topic. Though, I will tag you in direct replies.

Onto your concern, the ride to the Castle was not very long. Each character arrived separately to the city as Alex came from Ponyville, Thorn from his home, Winter Bolt from Manehattan, and Copper from his travels. As such, they only had around five minutes to speak as the carriage-pullers had to move fast to go between the train station, city gates, and the palace gates.

Also, take into account that all four have never met each other, although some may have seen another (such as Copper, a traveler, having possibly seen Alex in Ponyville). Conversation would have been light, and, truthfully, nothing more than pleasantries.

  6. This is the RP thread for Renewal of an Age. New players must go [here], post a character, and wait to be accepted or denied before posting here.

    Begin

The Gala was in full swing. Carriages trundled down the street by the dozen, quickly emptying themselves of passengers before leaving just as quick as the arrived. Ponies, Diamond Dogs, Griffons, Minotaur, Deer, and even a young Dragon or two could be seen spread throughout the palace. Garden parties were lively - food provided, of course. Countless rooms inside Canterlot Castle had been cleared and redecorated to host the largest incarnation of the largest party ever.

No longer was it a networking event for nobles and the influential. Now, it was a true representation of Equestria's unity. All classes and all species were welcome; if you could find your way there, and there was room inside, you were welcome. Naturally, many were waiting outside the gates for entrance. Others, those with invitations, were free to proceed inside. Guards, of course, patrolled the halls, fields, and gardens to prevent troublemakers; more than a few were kicked out for disturbing the peace.

In front of the palace gates, Princess Celestia stood, happily greeting every newcomer who cared to attend. After all, this was the only chance some ponies had to see their ruler.

Yet another carriage opened up, depositing its passengers of three ponies and a Diamond Dog in front of the palace gates. None spared them a glance; no longer were Diamond Dogs an unwelcome sight, not with the new treaties between the Gemmed Plateaus and Equestria.

This group was special, though, and the Guards new it. They were some of the few who had received invitations to the Gala and were allowed to enter without any waiting. Each was special in their own right and invited to this party via a personal invitation from the Princesses of Equestria.

Alex Van Gamer, a Diamond Dog from the Roving Packs. Unlike her brethren, she did not enjoy stealing nor slavery; instead, she sought to better herself.

Blue Thorn, an Equestrian Earth Pony, an example of Equestrian desire to find peaceful solutions to all problems.

Winter Bolt, a Pegasus Manehattanite, showing the cheerful nature of Equestria's citizens.

Finally, Strong Copper, a Canterlot native, representing the willingness of a pony to defend others.

All four were chosen to help represent Equestria to the other nations present, though none knew of it.

The four Guards present at the gates nodded to the small group, allowing them entrance. Several feet inside the walls, Princess Celestia stood, speaking to several farmers from Appleloosa. The carriage behind the small party slowly rolled away, returning to the city gates to provide passage to yet another group of party-goers. One of the Guards spoke. "Welcome to the Grand Galloping Gala. May I see your tickets, if you have them, as well as know your names?"

  8. This is the Out-Of-Character thread for Renewal of an AgeHere, things will be discussed, plans made, and ideas formed. Expect this topic to be expanded as more information becomes available and the roleplay progressions. This roleplay is structured between a Tabletop RP and an Advanced RP, though it leans toward the latter. As such, it will be found in the Advanced Roleplay section, although a link is provided.

New Members: Potential new players must submit the characters they will play as in this thread, after having read this to get an understanding of this adventure as well as how it will be structured.

Time Period: This story is set within an almost entirely AU timeline. As such, many of the events happening in the series will not happen here. As for the current time period, this is set after the events of the Changeling Invasion; disregard the events of all episodes past that.

Information: Sometimes, information the characters do not know will be said inside messages. This is for players to keep in mind, though their actions can not be built around this knowledge.

Important: Wording is everything in this adventure. The way you word your message will decide whether the plans fails horribly or succeeds perfectly. Think before you post!

    Current Players:

Alex Van Gamer- Alex Van Gamer

    Loud Opinion- Blue Thorn

    Jedishy- Winter Bolt

    Strong Copper- Strong Copper

    woodchunks66- Survivor Hoof

  9. @Strong Copper Quite fortunately, you aren't too late. You'll also likely be the remaining player; I'd prefer four and no more.

First, I must say I like your character. His nature as a monster hunter as well as a researcher may come in quite useful on this journey. He's already used to travelling, making this no different than what he is used to, though it may be for a different reason. His generous nature at taking no more than what others are able to afford will also endear him to many communities on the adventure.

As with the other characters, Strong Copper will have been invited into the Grand Galloping Gala due to his well-known nature; word does get around quite easily.

It seems time has come for the roleplay to begin. The OOC thread is found here:

    @Alex Van Gamer

As stated to Alex Van Gamer, I'd like to start the RP at the Grand Galloping Gala. In this story, the GGG is rather different. Rather than a networking party for the rich and the influential, it would instead be a party for all the citizens of Equestria. Everyday ponies and other species would be invited, slowly dissolving the barriers between Commoner, Nobility, and Royalty.

As for the RP itself, I intend to wait a day or three before beginning the RP. While I have no problems with three players, I'd much prefer four. I will post another comment tagging each of you and containing a link when the RP officially begins. Is there any problems with this plan? I am well aware that some times are simply not good times for people.

  11. @Jedishy Well, I like both characters. Winter Bolt would be able to keep the spirits of the group up while also providing a bit of comedy. He would also be able to help the progression of the group. The downside is that his overactive nature in winter may cause problems for the group.

On the other hand, Puzzle would be useful as well. He would provide an effective ability to solve situations as they arise. His natural curiosity could make him good at discovering things or figuring out solutions from minimal information. His downside is that he is very young, merely 15 years old.

As it is, the choice remains entirely up to you. Both characters are easily acceptable.

  12. @Loud Opinion First, I love the way you introduced all three characters.

On to the matter at hand, I think Blue Thorn would be best suited for Renewal of an Age. His ability to bring ponies and other species together will be invaluable for this adventure. Not only that, but his desire to be apart of something bigger is very open-ended and can be harnessed rather effectively in this story. He seems no stranger to hardship, of which there may be plenty in this adventures, and would be able to easily handle some of the situations needed, unlike, say, a noble.

  13. @Alex Van Gamer I'm checked over your OC's profile and I must say, I love the concept of her. It's interesting and fresh. I also like the fact that your name and avatar are her.

I don't see any problems with her history, nor with the personality listed, even the removed bit. She seems like a character that would be fun to interact with, while also having realistic flaws.

As the updated topic says, the role-play will begin at the Grand Galloping Gala. How would you feel about Alex having been invited to better relations between ponies and Diamond Dogs, as well as to prove that not all Diamond Dogs are greedy?

  14. Welcome to Renewal of an Age, an Equestrian, non-canon RP focused around bringing balance to the wonderful land of Equis.

Now, before we get down to character introductions, and eventually the RP itself, I want to lay down a few details, and yes, rules.

First off is about characters, including what I do, and don't, want from my RP'ers.

Expect me to be the DM, which, in this case, is more of Directional Manager rather than Dungeon Master. I won't be a single player, but rather every NPC encountered.

Players should be 'average' Equis species. Ergo, Griffons (or Gryphons), Unicorns, Pegasi, Minotaurs, Deer, etc. No Alicorns, Tartarian prisoners, or god-like beings. There will be plenty of those already.

I will only have 3-5 players at a time. No less than three, no more than five. I also expect you to roleplay as the character you submit. If a fun-loving, partying character is submitted and a quiet, shy pony is played, expect to be spoken to and possibly removed.

Do NOT control another player's character. If your decision requires you making another user's character to do something as well, plan it out. Do not simply say:

I dodge backward as Player #2 blocks the swipe with her sword. Then, we both leap forward.

Now, moving on to role-play mechanics, there will be list of things to expect and remember.

1.) This will be done in a way vaguely similar to D&D. Emphasis on vaguely. Nothing along the lines of this:

Player #1: I dash forward, using 10ft of movement, to strike for 14 slashing damage.

But along the lines of this:

Player #1: I dash forward and swipe at the Manticore's chest with my sword.

2.) On the topic of being D&D-Inspired, there will be times in which you want to persuade, or intimidate, or steal, or something else. For anything requiring speech, it will work based on actual wording or phrasing. Let's say you want to persuade someone to give you something for free. This will not work:

Player #1: Come on, man, give me it. I won't spread the word about free stuff.

    This may:

Player #2: Look, if you give my friend this, I'll spread the word about how this shop has a great supply and the owner is a kind stallion.

3.) There will be two types of Combat messages: Open-Ended and Closed-Ended.

Open-Ended is along the lines of this:

DM: The Manticore staggers back in pain before roaring. It swings it's paws at Player #1.

Player #1 now has the chance to say this: I dodge under it's swipes before delivering a swift kick to its knee.

    Closed-Ended is this:

DM: The Manticore staggers back in pain before roaring. It swings it's claws at Player #1, striking him across the chest.

Player #1 has been injured with no way around it. Suffice to say, wording will be incredibly important so be sure to read messages closely.

4.) This RP will be a mix of action, adventure, and slice of life. It is also entirely open-world. Players could decided to go straight for the main goal, fall in love, flee the land to another country, or even join the evil and destroy the world. It is up to you what happens here. I just make the basic plot.

I would like character submissions to be as detailed as possible; name, history, relatives, personality, abilities, and a whole host of anything you might think to add.

Finally, when the RP begins, it will be done so as the players arrive at the Grand Galloping Gala.

Now, expect this post to be updated frequently as I add more information as well as expand on what is already here.

    Lore

Long ago, in a time forgotten by mortal and alicorn minds alike, several beings walked across the skin of Equis. These beings were as powerful as they were alien, none of them born upon the land they roamed. Each had been brought to Equis by another, given new bodies and new names with which they fulfilled their tasks.

Gaea, Lady of Life, tasked with ensuring all life on the planet had a place. She brought balance between the myriad of species that called Equis home.

Thanatos, Lord of Death, tasked with ensuring the world always had a place for new life. He ferried souls to the realm they needed to go to, whether good or evil.

Tartarus, Lord of the Pit, tasked with punishing all true evil that ever came across his path. He ensured no being stepped out of their bounds.

Hades, Lord of the Underworld, tasked with providing an afterlife to those who did not warrant Tartarus. He, too, punished the wicked, as well as rewarded the good.

Hemera, Lady of the Day, tasked with bringing light to the world so they may see and grow. She guided mortals throughout their lives and gave them the time they needed to grow.

Nyx, Lady of the Night, tasked with bringing coolness and peace to the world. She gave mortals time to rest and prepare for the day ahead.

Aether, Lord of Light, tasked with spreading the good of souls across the world. He spread generosity and love to those who would listen.

Erebus, Lord of Darkness, tasked with spreading the evil of souls across the world. He spread hatred and greed to those who would listen.

Perses, Lord of Destruction, tasked with bringing an inevitable end to all things. He brought ruin across the world as was needed.

Finally, Chaos, Master of Creation, tasked with rebuilding the world from any damage. Their power was great and all encompassing.

One day, Erebus discovered a way to corrupt his fellow Masters. One by one, each fell under his fiendish control until all the world was corrupt. Mother, the being who brought all the Masters together, sought to fix this mistake.

Each Master was taken and locked away, sealed in an eternal slumber. Mother reached out across her world and created the Spirits. Each Spirit represented a Master, taking their place until the time came for them to be awoken and purified.

Of all the Spirits, only two were documented; Spirit Celestia and Spirit Luna, blessed of Hemera and Nyx. Eight others were unaccounted for.

The time has come for the Masters to awaken.
