Actually, I just googled it and it’s because Schultz had a friend named Charlie Brown growing up, he called him by his full name and everyone else started doing it. In fact, Schultz named a some of the characters after his friends and he always asked permission.

I’m actually not sure myself, but if I had to make a maybe Charles Schulz wanted the other characters to call him by his full name so that way the fans would call him by his full name to make sure they’re talking about him and not another fictional character named Charlie.
