I just realized something... In "Sonic rainboom" before Twilight preforms the spell to give Rarity wings she says the spell will allow "Earth Ponies" to fly for 3 days. That could kinda be considered an error in a way . Not sure how it'd be explained otherwise though.
Maybe she means ponies that could only stay on earth? If you think about it, Unicorns are kinda earth ponies. They don't fly, so they have to stay on earth.
