Stellar Hunt 51 June 2, 2014 Share June 2, 2014 I tried to see if this topic is a duplicate because I am new to this forum still even though I joined a month ago, so I apologize if it is a duplicate. Anyway, I wanted to ask this because I personally liked Discord better as a villain. I think his character and personality is more geared towards being a master of chaos and disharmony. My friend who I got into MLP (by miracle I must add) thinks Discord is better reformed. And we argue (not literally) to this day about it. I personally think he just shifted from chaotically evil to neutral. Although, it's is a little annoying that he seems to only come around now as a plot advancement tool now. Even when he was allowed to spread chaos when helping Tyreck he didn't really do anything. Though I liked Discord at first when he was a villain, honestly I kind of like the reformed Discord a bit more! just because he's reformed doesn't mean he won't stop causing chaos! It's in his nature after all! I'm actually looking forward to seeing what role he will play on season 5! 4 Now with more added tea leaves! Villains have been known to have multiple episodes in other series. I doubt they would take out a fan favorite villain that quickly. I see where you are coming from. Kay Dreamer 884 June 2, 2014 Share June 2, 2014 (edited) Discord is an enormous homage to Star Trek's Q. In almost every conceivable way. Both omnipotent beings of chaos? Check. Both torment the main cast for their own amusement? Check. Both think (or thought) themselves superior to mortalkind? Check. Both create chaos by clicking their fingers...? Check. (Oh yeah, and they're both John de Lancie.) Q wound up softening over the course of his appearances in Star Trek. He was always a mischief maker, but his mischief became much more benign. He was even helpful now and then. Discord is following the same path. (Though this being a children's show, I imagine the reformation will be a little more complete.) I like where his character is going. I don't think he'll ever totally lose the 'mischief and chaos' aspect of his personality, but you don't have to be villainous to be mischievous. Being a Star Trek fan I must admit; I saw this coming from a mile off anyway. I was quite pleased when my suspicions turned out to be correct. He was a great and entertaining villain whose main flaw was his overconfidence which essentially painted a big target on him. Saying that, he was also great fun during his reformation process. I mean, recall the episode "Three's a Crowd." He wasn't entirely evil; he was just having fun at others expense. Not a good thing mind you, but not world-conquering either. I am really interested in seeing what the writers have in store for Discord. The only difference now is sometimes, it's chaos for a helpful cause applied in the most tormenting, roundabout and annoying way possible. Oh I don't expect him to stop being mischievous, but I expect his interactions between everyone other than Fluttershy, to be more friendly and for the others to atleast show some sign that they don't mind him being there. SomariFeyWright 776 June 3, 2014 Share June 3, 2014 I know people seem to be rather iffy on the idea of Discord being a full-on good guy, but personally, I love it. I really didn't like having Discord around as an "anti-hero" throughout Season 4. He presented a mean-spirited touch to the show that just felt really out of place in such a light-hearted and kid-friendly show like this one. He made it feel like... like one of those Disney live-action sitcoms. And we all know how good those are. It worked when he was a villain, because... well, he was the bad guy, destined to be thwarted and punished. To be treated as a good guy, while still being an asshole... it just didn't sit right, because it was like... like another Diamond Tiara. AND WE ALL KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE HER But... now that he's been fully reformed, he has his own lessons on Friendship to learn, his own room to grow... he feels like an accepted and welcome character in the show, and I welcome the change with open hooves.
