"Let all who love us follow."

                                     -Princess Luna

„I’m not cut out for this“ Silverwisp complained as they picked their way through the bushes.

Ylva grunted, utterly unsympathetic.

“You wanted to come along, Warlock. I could have checked it myself.”

“And let the poor folk come face to face with you? They might think the Griffons are invading us.”

“There probably isn’t anyone there anyway; it looked pretty run down from above. Anyone in there would have to be deaf not to notice this ruckus.”

In that at least Silverwisp had to agree; even fifty yards of the road, the noise of the passing crusader host was still distinct: the rumble of thousands of hooves on the ancient flagstones, the clang of metal on metal and here and voices raised in song.  This last detail seemed strangely significant to him; It was good that ponies were singing again.

Ylva sniffed when he shared his observation.

“I wouldn’t call that singing.”

“As opposed to what, Pup? A singer prattling about cutting off heads for two hundred verses?”

“You wouldn’t know a saga if it came up to you and bit you in the-“

“Stop!”

They did just that. Without them having noticed, they had come upon the cottage Ylva had spotted. It was a sorry little thing , little more than four crooked walls, a molding fetch roof and a chimney that looked like it was ready to topple over any moment.

In front of it stood a young pegasus colt holding what appeared to be a fire poker in one foreleg, the tip trembling a few inches from Silverwisp’s face.

“Easy, son.”

“I’m not your son!”, the colt snapped. “Go away!”

“Oh, for crying out loud.” Ylva reached out and wrenched the poker out of the boy’s grip. “This thing is blunt as a spoon. What were you going to do, give him bruises with it?

The colt backed away,  his brave façade crumbling.

“Please, just go away. It’s just me and my mom here, we have anything to steal:”

“I think we’ve got off the wrong hoof.”, Silverwisp said, lighting up his horn and giving a flourish with his hat. “My name is Silverwisp and this is Ylva. And were not bandits, quite the opposite actually. We’re with the Crusader Host.”

Hurricane had been observing the entire situation from a nearby tree. She had concealed herself quite well and had been listening intently to Silverwisp and Ylva's conversation and almost leapt out of her tree to save the young colt, but quickly caught herself. Her attention was quickly grabbed by the words "crusader host". She swooped down to the ponies. "So I hear your the crusader hosts." she said with a slight smirk on her face giving her somewhat of a sassy expression.

@@Silverwisp the Bard, @, @,

As the Crusader Host marched on, Starforged Steel was among them, singing with the rest of the troops. Some thought that soldiers sang to alleviate their fears or to remind them of what and who they were fighting for. They were wrong- or, at least in most cases. Troops sang because- unlike what poets and bards thought- if you could get a good song started up by early afternoon to carry you all the way through the rest of the day until it was time to set up camp- and even a bit then- they could not only keep up morale on long marches, but keep the weariness away with energy. The bard that had been assigned to them- a ragged young fellow named Silverwisp- had done his part in assuring morale was up, but it was easy now. They had only been in one skirmish, only had a handful of ponies wounded. There haven't been any casualties, nor had they been trekking for a long while. It would happen eventually. Then this bard would be put to the test. But, until then, he proved to be a pretty reasonable, if naive, fellow. The bard had a pair of birds which, after ensuring that they wouldn't be stealing any of his precious starmetal, he became fond of quite quickly. The somewhat obnoxious griffon that served as the bard's bodyguard, however, he found that he would need more time to get used to.

Assigned as the Company Blacksmith and given to the command of Captain Eclipse, he war a simple, silvery blue suit of chainmail that he made for himself for his own private protection. He wasn't about to go walking about in just his skin and expect to survive, especially an ambush. He pulled a cart filled with his equipment and tools, and a separate soldier pulled another cart with the anvil and bellows. The pony pulling the cart changed every so often, so it didn't take a genius to realize that it was a punishment. Starforged would have short conversations with the other pony, learning bit by bit what the lives of other ponies under Discord's rule had been. These conversations would accumulate over the next few days until they reached to point where they laughed about what the pony had done to pull the cart for the past few days. Get too tipsy, eat a bit too much food. Get into an argument. It was often just barely over the line, but it was wise. Light punishments for light things, earlier on. It certainly seemed to be working so far.

Noticing the bard and his 'bodyguard' confront a small colt roughly fifty yards away, obscured by the bushes, with a different mare nearby, attempting to initiate a conversation of sorts, he sighed and shook his head before raising his voice to continue his song. He would not have to worry about what that bard was up to. Starforged's job was to maintain all the metal in the company- both from the sky and the ground- and a small colt boy certainly wasn't any of his business.

Ylva spun around to face the newcomer, wings unfurling, one talon raised and ready to strike.  Silverwisp hurriedly put a hoof on her shoulder

"Now, now, I'm sure we're all friends here."

He looked the mare up and down. She was young, with the physique of a flyer. She also wore a dagger sheathed on a belt around her neck. He was suddenly very relieved that he had convinced Ylva to leave her axe with the wagons.

"Miss, it is very bad form to to sneak up on somepony like that, not to mention potentially dangerous. May I have your name?"

To her credit, the mare had not flinched in the face of a griffon nearly twice her size bearing down on her.

"Hurricane."

"Miss Hurricane, as you have so cunningly devised, we are indeed part of the Host."  He gestured to the Sun and Moon badge sewn on his scarf and the identical device on Ylva's cloak.

"The majority of which is currently marching down the nearby road. If you wish to join the cause, you'd probably have to talk with somepony there"

Hurricane thought a moment. "I've never really been a fan of joining things. I'm kinda independent like that. Besides, that singing could shatter glass and I don't mean in a good way. I do appreciate the crusade though. Maybe I could help you guys out. I do have some pretty amazing skill that could come in handy. You guys probably need it." She looked at the crusaders marching on and cringed at their singing.

Not a fan of joining things, eh? The stubbornness of youth.

Though he could hardly blame her. She was too young to know anything but the reign of the Chaosbringer. A hard age, that had bred a hard generation of young ponies.

"Well, I'm sure a mare of your talents will be able to make some valuable contributions to the cause. You should probably ask somepony in the Guard-"

He stopped as he felt something tugging his tail.

The colt had walked up to him.

"Please mister, if you're really not bandits. My mom... she's very sick. Do you have any medicine?"

He turned to Ylva.

"Pup, get one of the healers."

She nodded, shot one last suspicious glance at Hurricane and took off.

The colt looked after her , mouth hanging open. Silverwisp doubted he had ever sen a griffon fly.

"Are the princesses really going send someone to help mom?"

Silverwisp felt a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"What's you name?"

"Gale."

"A good name. Now, Gale, when the Crusade came to White Tail Village, Princess Celestia met with the village council to discuss whether or not they' would like to be part of her and her sister's kingdom. The council asked her for one hour time to discuss. She agreed. And when the hour was up and the counselors stepped outside, they saw that the princess had taken of her crown and collar and her golden shoes and was helping the villagers plow the fields."

Gale's eyes had gone wide.

"Really?"

Silverwisp nodded solemnly .

"Really. This crusade is not about conquering, you see. It is about bringing back peace and happiness to Equestria."

Hurricane giggled but Gale managed a brave smile.

"So my mom will be alright?"

"I promise."

Somewhere behind them he could hear the sound of rustling leaves heralded Ylva's return.

@,

Trench Club was wondering in a random direction, like he usually did, when he heard the sound of singing. It was a little off key but with the collection of many voices made it sound rather powerful and inspiring. With his interest peaked he started to follow the singing. He climbed on top of a hill to see where it was coming from. When he got to the top he could see a large bunch of troops marching. He then made his way down the other side of the heel and head towards the troops. As he got closer he saw a stallion wearing some well made blue chainmail.  He made his way over to the stallion because we seemed to stand out more. When he got over to him he cleared his throat, not to get is attention but to get his voices wormed up cause it has been a while since hes spoken. "Excuse me, why are you all singing?"

"This is taking longer than I expected." Said the captain simply - flashing an unpleasant look towards the advisor beside him. The effect of the glare was lost however, on the stallion in question - who merely shook his head slowly.

"This isn't a force like you have commanded before. Larger numbers of ponies move more slowly, no matter how well trained. It is basic logistics."

The advisor raised a brow.

"I would have thought their noise would have been your first complaint?"

Eclipse sneered sarcastically and he stepped onward.

"Let them bring down the sky if they want... I'm just relieved that they actually have something to sing about for once... by Luna's grace, it's been too long."

...

Shooing his good friend and confidant away, Eclipse increased his pace. It was good for moral, to walk among the others and sold any issues that they might have. Of course, this force wasn't the same as the small ones he had led prior to Discords fall, but he suspected that it would likely function in similar ways at least.

@,

The soldiers seemed fine - but that was when small things got overlooked. Eclipse was not about to let that happen.

"You there, smith! What was it... Steel?" He addressed the blacksmith: an unusual addition to his way of thinking - the Night guard tended to not like taking more time on a mission that was necessary. "How are our supplies? Are we lacking anything urgent?"

When Hurricane heard the leaves rustle, she whipped around to face them with her dagger, ready to strike in a battle stance. She was always on high alert. She had to be. Hurricane had pretty much always been alone. She was the only one she had to protect herself.

When she realized it was only Ylva, she lowered her weapon, but still held it firm in her mouth. "Well I hope you brought help," she said with a straight face, "because we just promised the kid that you would."

@@@Gloomfury,

Starforged was rather surprised to see the Captain approach him and, with a glance behind him, did some research on what he was carrying. "Hmm. Well, I've got enough scrap to repair everything about twice over, as well as enough carried by my friend over here to forge several suits of armor or even more weapons. Plenty of tools, plenty of molds- both standard weapons and blank ones for nonstandard weapons.. The only thing I think I lack, sir, are the straight staves required to mount the blades on polearms, spears, and javelins. Other than that, I have almost everything I need."

While he was occupied by the Captain, a second pony came up from behind him and inquired something about singing. He was on the verge of answering most venomously, especially considering who he was talking to, when he noticed that it wasn't a soldier. Changing tack, he said to him, turning around ever so slightly that he could see his face without turning his back towards the commander, "We sing because we have nothing better to do while walking. That, and it helps to keep morale up and a whole bunch of other things. A better person to ask would be our bard or our Captain- who is conveniently standing right here. By the way," he started, turning towards the captain, "Do you know what that crazy bard and his griffon counterpart are doing, sir?"

"No doubt drawing attention to us far less than this noise... so long as they don't become a problem I have no quarrel with them." Eclipse closed his eyes and took a few calming breaths. All of this noise, the audacity... anyone would think Equestria was secure already. It was one thing to celebrate, but he knew that the festivities would have to end if they hoped to actually achieve anything of significance.

"I have a deep respect for the way of the Bard. Words can do as much good as a weapon, and with far less bloodshed. No doubt they will prove to be an asset..." He stated clearly, before dropping his voice. "... somehow..."

With a slight start, the captain returned to his usual, commanding volume.

"I'll see if we can find something adequate as soon as possible - much as I would like to avoid conflict, I won't let my soldiers fight under equipped should the need arise. Don't hesitate to find me if anything is required."

@@Silverwisp the Bard, @, @@Gloomfury,

The Crusader Host was split in two groups, Golden Dawn bring in the second a bit behind the first. As such it did not take long for the rest of the army to rejoin the first.

The yellow pegasus was a more intimidating sort, his eyes a darker shade then his coat and with a golden shine that seem to pierce like daggers. He moved his dark brown from in front of his eyes, as though most of it was tied to hang down the back of his neck some of it still came lose. He was wearing the golden yellow armour of the Solar Guard, yet it design set him apart to his station as captain and shone because of its daily cleaning.

The Captain of the Solar Guard, wonder what they had found so he stepped forward slowly before calling to his fellow captain in a voice loud enough to be heard b all nearby, "Eclipse, what is going on here, did we find something?"

The stallion took in his surroundings, seeing the Cottage nearby, the mare he did not recognize, are a young colt near the Cottage, and one speaking to soldiers. A slight frown was on his face, wondering who they were.

"I see." Was all Trench said when the pony in chainmail turned to his captain and got back to talking to him. Trench didn't wont to rude so he didn't say anything else while they talked. When he addressed a pony pulling a wagon with blacksmithing equipment. Then he heard another ponies voice call. He turned around and looked at a stallion who was bright as the sun. It hurt to look at him so he turns back to the stallion in chainmail. "Pardon me, sorry to bother you again. But did you make the chainmail you are wearing? It is very well made if you don't mind me saying."

Deep within the Everfree Forest, the sound of metal hitting a tree could be heard. A young stallion, no older than twenty, could be seen dressed in heavy armor that shined like the sun. Under the set his coat was as gold as a coin and his mane as white as snow. After hitting the tree again, he took a jump back, ready to strike again. He charged forward, his great sword dragging against the ground. When he was within striking range, he hefted his massive sword and swung with all his strength. The large weapon cleaved through the tree as if it was nothing. The tree began to topple over as the stallion strapped his weapon onto his back. The tree was falling in the direction the stallion stood, but he did not move, only smirked. As the tree was almost on top of him, he braced himself for the heavy change in weight and caught it. He let it gently slide off to his side with a soft thud. The golden stallion wiped sweat from his brow and sat on his haunches. "Phew, I think that's enough training for today." he said, his voice deep and strong, with a hint of smooth velvet that can calm a dragon.

As he began to get up, off in the distance he heard a faint noise. It sounded distorted from this far into the forest. Deciding to see what it is, he followed the noise.

Starforged smiled ever so slightly as he saluted. "Yes, sir." Turning his attention back to pulling the wagon for a bit, he stared down at his hooves, watching the road beneath him for a bit. When he looked up again, he saw a pony in a dazzling suit of armor standing near Captain Eclipse. A Solar Guard Captain. He had always liked the times when he was assigned to a Solar Guard Company, as it allowed him to examine the arms and armor of a hero- their style, their vanity (or lack thereof) and their preference of equipment. It also allowed him to view the handiwork of the master smiths that must have made his armor. Their rushed work was several times finer than his when he spent several days in his little forge, but they had not only more experience, but more money- which meant better equipment and better arms. It was Starforged's dream to arm and armor a hero with equipment of his own making- even if he was utterly ignored by history. His glory would be in the suit of armor and arms. Of course, the day when the previously stated anonymous hero would come to his forge to request a piece of such finery has yet to happen, and it was a good thing, too- he had not enough of the precious starmetal to forge it. Oh, in his many years, he had managed to find enough for a few weapons- or maybe the greaves and breastplate of a suit of armor- but he had not nearly enough for a full suit. Yet, progress is progress. He would slowly get enough to construct what he needed. But until then...

He was jolted back into reality by a question from the mysterious pony that was nearby. "Oh. Yes, I did make this myself. I personally like more protection when I am out by myself in the evenings and nights, in case I am attacked by bandits or monsters." After pausing for a moment, he asked the young stallion, "Are you from around here?"

As he asked, his gaze was drawn once more into the forest, where a large, bulky shadow in the trees nearby seemed to be approaching. Feeling something quite wrong about this for some reason or another, he turned his head towards the pair of Captains, pointing with his other hoof carefully and subtly. "Captain? There's someone else there, and I don't recognize who it is."

@@EquestrianScholar,Discord's rule was finally over... finally they could do something more than fight the senseless chaos the draconequius had caused. It was obnoxious to just try, and try, and try to discern truth from reality sometimes and Terra was finally able to see the next day after years of fighting. He had been born in the war and it was certainly interesting to grow upon such an environment. On their travels he had found a phoenix hatchling which he was doing his best to raise now Fenix was a young adult but he still had that little spot on his armor where Fenix could rest everytime he wanted. It was a nice life and he was happy to enlist to the Solar guard to help pave for the future. He wanted to be remembered and in his conscience this was the best way. As the group went forward he proceeded to report to his captain full in armor and saluting him as he arrived on the spot.

"Reporting for duty Sir Golden Dawn! What are your orders?" he said in an official manner. In any case he wasn't going to get non-formal if Golden Dawn didn't say so... at least it was a precaution in case Dawn was moody for any matter.

@, @,
Golden would look over to where the blacksmith-in-training Starforged pointed, making notice to where somepony or someone seemed to be coming out from the forest and into the clearing. This would bring the pegasus onto alert, preparing for possible trouble but not showing any alarm or worry. There was possiblity of trouble but the stallion doubted it, still be was prepared just in case and he would wait and see who it was. Turning his attention to the one who had brought this to the captains' attention Golden would say with a nod, "Thank you Starforged, I will suggest we wait before taking action towards who ever they are."

@,
Golden would look over the dark blue earth pony with a mane and tail interestingly like flame. He would look into Terra's deep red eyes with his own more serious golden yellow eyes. Of note he seem to have with him a phoenix on his shoulder. He did not at first say anything but after a moment he gives a smile and says, "It is good to see more ponies joining the cause. I hope your prepared for long marches, tiring training, and surviving outside. What is your name soldier?"

Ylva glowered down on Hurricane.

This time she had brought her axe. The weapon's edge was so encrusted with sap and leaves covered her cloak and feathers.

"Put away that toothpick, before I shove it up your-"

Though they were deprived of finding out what Ylva had in mind. A mare in the white robe of a healer shouldered past her and Hurricane and drew herself up before Silverwisp.

"Would you care to explain, why this ruffian insisted on dragging me away from my patients? You know, it is difficult enough to "

Silverwisp almost found himself saluting.

"This colt's mother is not well. He pointed over his shoulder to the cottage. We thought it might be better to let a professional take a look." "Ma'am.", he added as an afterthought.

Her expression softened a bit when she noticed Gale.

"Of course. Come on, boy, let's see to your mother."

A moment later the two had vanished into the cottage, leaving Silverwisp alone with Hurrican and Ylva.

The latter had thankfully put down her axe and was busying herself with picking leaves and twigs out of the fur collar of her coat.

"Ran into a Timberwolf on the way, did you?"

"Bite me, warlock."

That line of conversation exhausted, he turned to Hurricane.

"Now that we have time to talk and no one is pointing weapons at anyone, would you like to tell us your story, Miss Hurricane?"

Hurricane had a small  fire ignite in herself at Ylva's remark. she fought to ignore and extinguish it. She simply just gave Ylva a hateful glare. She then turned her attention back to Silverwisp and put her dagger back in her sheath. "My story?" she asked. "It's not a happy one filled with sunshine and rainbows I can tell you that. I was born toward the end of the reign of choas, but I was so young, I can't quite remember everything. My parents did well at shielding me from the bad stuff. We constantly lived in hiding whether it was in the clouds or in a cave. We did what we could to survive. However, my parents were evntually both killed. I don't know how. One day when I was around seven or so, they left me in a hidden cave we had been hiding in for a while and they and went out to find some food, but they never came back. I then got very worried and after a day or two, I decided to check out what was going on. Eventually, after searching and yelling out their names, I found them lying on the hard ground with blood coming their mouth's and noses. I tried to get them up, but then gave up and layed with their cold bodies and sobbed for what seemed like an eternity. Then, after an entire night or crying, I decided that crying wouldn't solve anything. I realized that I had to take care of myself from that point on. So I took my father's dagger and told my parents I loved them and headed off on my own and I have been on my own ever since. I could hide pretty well from enemies and was rather sneaky. I stole most of my food and attacked when necessary. Then, when I was looking for some food a few moments ago, your conversation grabbed my attention, now I'm here and I'm living happily ever after" she ended with a sarcastic tone.

The young stallion plated in his armor finally found his way to the source of the noise. No sooner does he get out of the forest and into a clearing does he see that there are ponies in armor apprehensive to his departure out of the forest. His ocean blue eyes wandered from pony to pony, all seem to watch his closely. He slowly hefts the large sword off his back and sets it down in front of him, "I mean you no harm. I got lost in the woods a little while ago and was looking for a way out. To show that I am trustworthy, I shall lay down my arms and step away."

He said with pride. "My father was one of the guard that went to my homeland to give aid. There where only few of them but they helped greatly." Silverwisp listened to the Hurricane, absently strumming his lyre.

He had heard the story before. This drama had played out in a myriad variations all over Equestria for the last twenty years. One day he would make a song of it, a requiem for the lost and those whose lives had been robbed of joy.

Not yet though, not with the pain still so fresh.

"Well, Miss Hurricane, I'm afraid all I can offer you are my condolences. But if you wish to help save others from suffering the same fate, we can always use an extra pair of wings and able eyes.Though I must point out you that stealing from the kitchens is frowned upon."

Before she could answer,  the healer reappeared.

"Pneumonia. She'll be fine with some proper care, but she can't stay in that moldy hole. We're taking her and the boy with us."

"You , she pointed at Ylva and Hurricane. "Take a blanket fly her over to the wagons. And you, bard, put that damn thing away and help Gale gather up the things he wants to take with him."

The she trotted of without sparing any of them another glance.

Silverwisp sighed and put the lyre back into his saddlebag, before treating Hurricane to a rye smile.

"Looks like you've just been drafted, for today at least. Welcome to the cause."

Hurricane made a subtle smile in a way of saying thank you, but not trying to make it too obvious. She doesn't want other ponies to think she has too much of a soft side.  She started to walk toward the house to help out the ill mare. Just when she started to walk through the door, she looked back at Ylva. "Are you coming? This blanket isn't fly itself to the wagon." she said. "Unless you wanna stay here and sharpen that oversized axe." she added under her breath.

The smith looked over the newcomer, then huffed a bit and turned away, leaving the Captains to deal with it. Starforged looked carefully at Trench Club. He was rather surprised and suddenly quite intrigued by this pony. He said warily, "Alright, then. I've always been a bit... wary of the overseas ponies. But I'll see how you are working. Did you come here to join the cause? Or are you looking for a job under the Captain?"

He looked at the overenthusiastic new recruit that had reported to the Solar Captain carefully and quietly as he waited for a response. Just like all of them, he thought. And then they get into a battle. And then they survive a war... and suddenly, the enthusiasm disappears...
