Only because she never does anything advanced, unlike Twilight. Also, it's a lot harder to control yourself if you are a power house, much easier to control if there isn't much to control

Yeahh, that's gotta be complex Especially if you look at the number of objects she's lifting, taking into account the fact she's spinning all of them in a circlular motion around the room, all while singing a song and not even breaking a sweat? That can't be easy to control, considering how much magic she's using and the way she's using it.

It was stated in Boast Busters that all unicorns only know a small amount of magic relevant to their talents. As Twilight's talent is magic itself, that's why she can become so proficient at it. But Rarity or any other unicorn have limits set by what their cutie mark tells them.

I admit, the spells she casts aren't as complex as the ones Twilight casts, but I will say that she does do some pretty complex maneuvers with her magic and shouldn't be written off

They said songs aren't canon, so technically she wasn't lifting those in a circle, nor spinning them about.

And it would be the human equivalent of dancing around the room like a 1950s broadway show, and they have clubs of highschool kids that can do that. Compared to traveling through time, and changing base properties of animals, lifting a couch in a cartoon musical number seems fairly easy.

You can chalk that up to song-induced choreography though.

She's never shown to do anything like that when it actually was needed.

Actually, I've never heard people say that the songs weren't canon The burden of proof is on you there - I can't say I've ever heard anything like that before, although I'm not saying it isn't true. I'm just saying I've never heard that during my time here, so I'll just have to ask for proof before I can take that seriously

 

Furthermore, Trixie's magic is similar to Twilight's in the sense that magic is their special talents, although Trixie's is to a lesser extent because she's a magician while Twilight's pretty much exclusively magic. Trixie is still very powerful with her magic, in between Twilight and Rarity - which means, yes, she is more powerful than Rarity, but she's very strong by unicorn standards, so being bested by Trixie doesn't necessarily make Rarity weak compared to other unicorns, just weak against Trixie and others more powerful than her, which is pretty much the way it is almost all of the time when it comes to power - the more powerful one wins

Probably not, she has great magical control and accels at telekenis and has that gem finding spell. Rarity could learn other spells if she wanted to but in terms of sheer power if would take her years to catch up and that is assuming she would even be interested in that and that the gulf between their power isn't already too great for them to catch up.

 

Tell that to King Sombra.

Rarity isn't King Sombra though, King Sombra has proven that an ordinary unicorn can reach the level of power of an alicorn but I think much of the reason for his insane power is because he mastered high level dark magic.

That is because Rarity mostly only knows basic/mid level spells and maybe one or two advanced ones. Twilight studies and attempts stuff that is difficult even for high level unicorns to pull offf.

I'm arguing Rarity being more skilled is wrong, she's not. She's more sensible than Twilight, physically stronger, but in any realm of magic, can't hope to hold a candle

As long as she's a regular unicorn and Twilight is an alicorn, she really can't compare.  I have a feeling that Rarity does have a lot of power, she just uses it to benefit her business so it's not really shown how strong it is.

To be fair, unicorn/alicorn status has nothing to do with it. Cadence was an absolute weakling compared to Twilight Sparkle, just a unicorn, Shining Armor's shields are apparently stronger than Celestia or Luna's, and Twilight didn't note any power increases upon alicornhood

But he does have a point, Twilight was able to do the same thing your example of Rarity had her do, but upscaled by a thousand. She was able to keep a giant bear afloat, milk an entire barn of cows, empty a water tower, and feed the bear the tower of milk, all while keeping everything floating in the air. Takes a great deal of control to be able to multitask like that, and to do so gently enough that she did not wake a bear that was easily woken by snips and snails. Rarity does have a fair measure of magical control, but Twilight also demonstrated this ability, and to a far greater scale.

And, as I've said before, Twilight is more powerful than Rarity in terms of magical prowess. I don't know why you're trying to argue that against me because I agree with it The most I've said is that Rarity had an equal or more ability to control her magic earlier in the series, when Twilight's magic was still more powerful but she had trouble controlling it at times - now, Twilight has Rarity beat. I don't see why you keep trying to argue with me when there was really never an argument in the first place on that

I suppose you could argue about "potential" for power, but I do think Rarity could become more powerful than she is now, but Twilight has been studying since she was a foal so I don't see how Rarity could ever dream of being as good at magic as Twilight is. So frankly, no, I don't think Rarity could ever be as powerful as Twilight. Could she maybe learn some magic that Twilight hasn't really tried before? Sure, but I don't think she could match raw magic potential or the knowledge that Twilight has.

Which, is pretty much what I said in my original post -_- If Rarity trained hard, her control would be able to equal or possibly even surpass Twilight's, I believe, but she'd never match in terms of sheer power  I really don't see why people are so intent to argue that, considering A.) it's a possibility, not a fact and B.) I still think Twilight would be the more powerful one.

 

Now, if we were talking about the magic of fabulosity...
