(forgive the multitopics. I'm on a theory high right now) *u*

Rewatching "The best Night Ever", I realize that I either missed or completely forgot a bit of Spike's dialogue that mentions him taking his friends on a tour of Canterlot, and showing them Celestia's golden apple tree. What? WHAT?! D: I've been content with going off Faust's claim that Celestia and Luna weren't meant to be goddesses, or immortal, but when a show that's heavy on the greek Mythos goes and mentions a golden apple tree, I can't help but think of a certain tree in the Greek Goddess' here'a orchard that granted immortality and was guarded by a hundred-headed Dragon. (and Spike.....well.....IS a dragon, and he knows about this golden apple tree that- I'd assume- Celestia has only revealed to a few ponies, and himself, if the tree does, in fact, contain such qualities)

Has anybrony else noticed this?! What does this meeeeeaaaan?!

I just assumed it was either an ornamental apple tree made literally of gold, used as the most extravagant lawn decoration ever, or perhaps an unusually proportioned and impressive golden delicious apple tree.

There were many golden apples in mythology. There was one that was just pretty enough to distract you

Alternatively, Celestia has a Golden Delicous Tree

i know that much....

But as far as I've seen, MLP is heavily influenced with Greek myth. Haven't seen any thors mixed in, so why would this golden apple tree be one from anything other than Greek mythos?

On a serious note,it means nothing... Like nada... Well atleast atm. Even if the this golden tree bears fruit that gives immortality or whatever, until the show, plot, and writers explore said tree,we will never know what its true purpose is and i wouldn't be surprised if the comment spike made was just made for said moment hyperbole  :(

Maybe during season 44,when they have ran out of show ideas and Twilight has 4 sets of wings then we may hear of this golden apple tree once more. Or perhaps sooner ,who knows  :P

Ummm, the golden apple that was pretty was from Greek mythology. And Tirek's design is heavily based on Hathor

I can't possibly imagine why it'd just be an unusually large Golden Delicious tree or a simple lawn ornament, since all in the same breath, Spike went on about showing his friend's the royal crown jewels, and the golden apple tree, which must mean that- along with the crown jewels, it'd have to be something special.

I'd think a tree made of solid gold in a garden somewhere to be pretty special, and probably way up there in value like the royal jewels, although probably not quite that high.

Interesting. I did notice the mention of the tree, but I hadn't connected it to the apples of immortality. I was thinking more along the lines of the pretty gold apples also in Greek Myth. They were solid gold, so pretty difficult to eat.

Though that would also line up mythologically, because there were many beliefs that if you actually ate metallic gold it would prolong your life.

I remain skeptical for various reasons. First- the main currency in Equestria (even in a backwater town like Ponyville) are bits, which appear to be made of solid gold. One of the other currencies- as seen in "Rarity Takes manehattan" are solid gem stones. Which also seem fairly easy to acquire in that country. So even if the gang from ponyville were in Canterlot at the time, wouldn't it stand to reason that they wouldn't at all be impressed by a simple tree made of gold, if they throw around gold bits and gemstone currency- as well as use them for fashion accessories, on a daily basis?

Well you see, sillybuns....

You have a sound argument. However, if you take into account that it's possibly an art piece of some kind, i think it could still be a tree made of gold. Iv'e seen some spectacular pieces made of much, much cheaper materials and the value attributed to such pieces was beyond measure.

i suppose it could be, since I suppose some pieces could be as rare and valuable as a country's crown jewels. But has Spike ever shown interest in fine art, before (especially taking into account that he's still a child). I can't recall a time when he's also ever fawned over gold. (If this tree was, in fact, solid gold) And Celestia's never been shown to keep or display artifacts that didn't have a purpose- the elements of harmony, Discord's statue, her and Lunas journal...
