Something to do with a couple of God lovers only being able to meet once a year.

It's a festival originating from China. It's known as the Star Festival that is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th month.

The (quick) story is about Orihime and Hikoboshi, who are astrological deities who are seperated by the Milky Way. They can only meet on this together on this day.

A popular custom of this festival is to write a wish on paper and put it on bamboo trees in hopes it will come true. I think some areas of Japan celebrate it a month later, because there are different lunar calendars.
