Bigger and better than the Sonic fanbase?

games, perhaps.  The older Genesis games were pretty good (and way better then the newer ones, in my opinion.)  But the original Sonic cartoon show was excellent.  Had a good backstory, great characters, and good writing.  Only reason it didn't last was it was put against the original power rangers in ratings, and NOTHING was going to beat that show back then!

are you sure? im pretty sure Dragonball whooped every other cartoon at that time.

I don't remember the sonic cartoon even getting much appreciation at the time...If I remember correctly, Sonic wasn't on Fox or Cartoon Network, the two big things at that time.

"Sonic the Hedgehog" was broadcast on ABC, hence lower viewship then if it was on Fox Kids (which ran Power Rangers against it, hence even LOWER viewers!).  While some of the later episodes started to slip in quality, the first season was better.  While not the BEST show at the time (far from it), it was much more then the videogame's simple story.  In this version, Robotnik had already taken over, and Sonic was part of a group of Freedom Fighters, making for a much darker storyline then most kids cartoons.  Too bad the series ended on a cliffhanger....

But I'm steered us off topic.  This was about the fanbases, not the shows.  Forgive me, just sitting here remembering the good 'ol days of cartoons....

As i've said before:  the MLP fanbase is way more involved then the sonic one is/was.  I would rank Bronies right next to Trekkies in the love of their show (and in their obsession, lol).  and I can say that, as a card-caring Trekkie myself!

We also have quite a bit of similarities to them, including our intense love of worldbuilding, and the "anything's possible" nature of the show. People also view us much the same way as Trekkies, at least originally; something that they weren't okay with because it broke the status quo.

As far as I'm concerned, breaking the status quo is the best part of being a fan!  It's what make us unique from everyone else.  Trekkies, Bronies, or anyone other similar (crazy, lol) fan bases.

One thing I could never take seriously was the fact that Knuckles and the Hedgehogs have one big eye with two pupils. Kinda freaky if you ask me.

Yo! I'm Shenron00, but you can call me “Shen” if you want!

Thanks to WheatleyCore for the sig! BTW, yes, I do realize that's Carnage and not Shenron.

Don't forget about how unpleasable the Sonic fandom is. "Oh, Sonic has green eyes! Oh, Sonic 06 is terrible! Oh, Sonic Colors is shit! The series isn't the same anymore! Seriously, all they do is complain about the next game.

Heck, we're bigger and better than most fandoms.

One day,

I'll hope that this fandom will overpower the Disney fandom.

Shh! They're always listening... At the best, we can hope Disney doesn't try a hostile takeover...

And what might be the chances of that happening?

I wanna see mlp everywhere, to show up Disney fans who are anti bronies.

(Hypocriticall if you ask me),

That from what they say, "a low budget show for little girls" showing up against multi-million dollar budget Disney clasics.

"This day aria" and "you'll play your part" are strong contenders to the Disney standard

Who knows the amazing quality the animators and Ingram will put on the table for season five.

Now that they have experience and have improved.

I don't know much about the subject, but I can say that the horrible recolors they make in MS Paint and then upload to Deviantart are seriously unoriginal and annoying.

You just answered your own question. Not much really needs to be added.

The sheer level of talent, creativity, and diversity you get here, I believe, is hard to find in ANY fanbase, let alone Sonic. It really should be the envy of the entire industry. Whereas the best of the MLP fanworks are what MLP fans see first, it's much easier to spot the worst of the Sonic fans and fanart first. Sonic has little to no equivalent to "My Little Dashie", the .MOV series, or pretty much any other fanwork you can name past the recolor OCs and shipping fanfiction.

Additionally, you don't see an entire circuit of conventions dedicated to Sonic like there is for MLP, and you most definitely do not see the support and charitable work done by this fandom in theirs. Sonic never really made anyone a better person the same way MLP has to some people.

Actually there is two Sonic conventions I know about, and one of them I go to and it's actually quite good, I've met lots of other Sonic fans who seem pretty cool.

Why are we doing a measuring contest with Sonics fanbase? Ours is new and has the internet to connect people while sonic has been around for decades and started in an entirely different medium.

It has the staying power and backing behind it and it has some pretty nifty fan works. Its like a new athlete with a lot of potential trying to say he is better than the guy who has been putting in the years of work and achievements before the kid was even in daipers.

I'm a brony AND a Sonic fan. I started out as a Sonic fan first (born in 1984, was a kid when the very first Sonic game came out), but I don't go around judging. I actually try to learn from other fans so that I can be a better person. I know there are other bronies and pegasisters here who also like Sonic, and I hope that together we can be the shining examples of these fandoms rather than the darker examples. :)

See, here's the thing...

No fandom is perfect.

  • EVERY fandom has their dark side, and every fandom has their bright side.
  • Both of these two fandoms in question have tons of fans behind them.
  • Both have come together to make great pieces of fan content that honor the franchise, both have fans who are so rude/twisted/etc that they ruin it for new fans.
  • Both of these fandoms have conventions and mediums that the fans use to get connected, both have many unsung fans we'll never know about.
  • Judging which one has the brighter highs and the darker lowers really is subjective.

So, sorry to say, but I'm not going to get into a judging contest of which fandom is better. I don't think doing so makes us better fans in any way. In the name of love and tolerance, I think it's best to just let other fandoms be. If we can learn to get along and respect each other and give each other personal space, that'd be great. If the things we love can cross over from time to time without hurting or insulting the other franchise or fanbase, that'd be even better! But if none of that interests you, if you ever feel like you can't be respectful or tolerant of the other, then just walk away. We don't become better people by holding grudges. :)
