Louise got up from the sofa and went to the kitchen to ask Rose. Soon, she returned with a sheet of notepaper which had neatly written directions on it.

 

"Rose wrote down how to get there for us," Louise said to Zen. "We could go now; it's not far, only a few blocks away."

When the both seperated and went into seperate rooms, Nico almost immediately when he saw the needle. But after a lot of reassurance and a speech about it making metas' potentials come out, he relented and let them jab the needle in.

 

Walking out of the room, he rubbed his arm up and down to try and relieve the pain. When Nico entered the waiting room, he saw a monkey swinging about on the lamp and chuckled to himself, knowing it to be Tora. Tora, I think it's time to come down." He said, waving his hand at the lamp not thinkong it to do much. To his surprise though, the lamp changed into a television for a brief moment before changing back into a lamp. "That'a different." Nico muttered, his limit only being the Cube in hs pocket.

The monkey screeched and hopped off the changing lamp and leapt onto the couch. Tora popped into a cat, then a sheep and finally a hawk. Only for a second did she turn back human "It doesn't hurt! The changing doesn't hurt!"

 

She stretched out on the floor and extended herself limb by limb; and her body warped into a tiger. She growled lowly and tasted the air with her tongue. Everything was so enhanced. She felt like a true animal.

Nico walked over to Tora and hesitantly latted her back. "Seriously? It doesn't hurt? That's fantastic!" Nico said happily and stopped patting her. He was glad that Tora didn't feel any pain when 'popped' into different animals. He was about to say something else when he held bis head in his hands due to a sudden headache. He heard tinny conversations throgh lhone in his mind but he made an effort to stop listening in because it just didn't feel right.

"Well then let's go. No point in sticking around here doing nothing." Zen said as he back-flipped off of the couch. It was time to sate his curiosity. He walked past the tv, to the door and opened it, holding it for Louise. "You coming? I may need you in case we have to fight off evil German doctors." He said with a grin.

@, "Defintely," Louise replied, smiling. She walked out the door, and glanced at the sheet of paper. Following the directions, she and Zen were soon outside the Institute. Not bothering about what they should do, Louise decided that they should just both walk in and find out inside.

Detru giggled proudly as she painted a red bullseye onto several trees. It had taken forever to find the paint, even longer to buy it(it was too cold in the shop), and just as long to paint some targets. Now, time for practice. Opening her mouth wide, Detru felt the familiar crackling as she built up the destructive energies in her gullet. Then she fired her spray. The glare of the beam and excess gas blinded her in the process, but she had heard that "leading a target" was possible. She smiled in relief as her beam punched a hole about a foot away from the bullseye. Much better than usual. Now, to repeat. This would be boring

Gale yawned as she woke up and the first thing she noticed was Shadow. "Oh, um. Hi. When did you get here?" She asked, one side of her mind hoping he had heard her, and the other not. The teen had so many hormones rushing through her body, and she didn't know what to do. "Funny thing is, I was just having a dream about you." Gale then gave a shy smile and blushed.

I smiled *Don't say it damnit man* "I like the nickname, its... Fitting," *Fuck!* I quickly changed to something less about me. "As for the rest, we can... give dating a shot."

 

*What the hell am I doing?* "So... how dose that sound?" I awkwardly said a blush poping up immediately *Am I a Dumbass? This could increase the risk to her and myself.* *she dose look cute with her smile and blush...* My blush just got hotter and my heart beat skyrocketed.

Gale gave a wide smile and nodded. "That would be nice. By the way, I'm glad you like the nickname." She said. Inside her mind, the teen was ecstatic. "So, are you busy today, or should we go somewhere tomorrow?" The teen would have time to find a job, but she wanted to spend time with her new boyfriend first.

"How about today? As they say, no time like the present." I chuckled at the bad joke although abit nervously. * Now where to? A fast food place would not cut it.* an idea popped in my head as I remembered a little diner not too far from here.

 

"I have an idea where we could go, how about a small diner I seen during the tour? Jerrey's Diner is what I believe it was called." I just hoped she'd like it, even if it was not fancy like other restaurants that we could goto. Hell I still wondered what about me caught her attention so quickly for her develop a crush on me, in less then three days, including time on the boat.

Tora turned back and placed her hands gently on the sides of his head "Are you alright Nico? Is it your ears?"

 

Rikku laid in her makeshift oasis. It had been so much easier to create with this new deug in her system, and the side effects kept her happy and mollified for the time being. The palm leaves shaded her face as she relaxed in the warmth. It was like a little piece of home.

As much as Victor tried to be a gentleman, he couldn't resist watching Rikku's swaying hips as she left. He usually didn't pay all that much attention to women, but he was practically drooling over her. Was it the drug already taking effect somehow? He tried to clear his head. He couldn't keep acting like a weirdo around her. Sighing, he left and wandered until he encountered a restaurant. Apparently he was their millionth customer and his meal was free. Sometimes his abilities were pretty awesome that way.

After being ushered in, they were taken to two separate doctors. During the physical, Louise's doctor looked at her in rather inappropriate ways a few times, but that stopped as soon as he saw her powers. Major turn-off. Finally, after the testing was done, he gave her the injection to enhance her abilities, explaining the side effects, which might include increased appetite, heightened emotional reactions, headaches, excessive energy, and restlessness. After that, she was free to go.

"No ... it's not my ears ... unless you too can hear conversations held over the phone." Nico said, wincing as her hands accidentally applied unwanted pressure to his head. He gently put his hands upon hers and took them off of his head. "It feels like ... eavesdropping even if it's on accident. There's this guy, I think his name is Tom, that's what the other guy said anyway, and he was talking about hos brother being bashed to the wall or something like that ... you got no pain from shifting? I got conversations from phones in my head. I'm basically ... tapping in without meaning to."

"No I don't think I hear the same way you do. My senses are heightened but I don't get interference like that" she held his hands while making sure he was okay. Her pupils were dilated as she watched him. He smelled good.

 

"Yeah, it doesn't hurt. How are you though?"

Victor eventually left the restaurant stuffed and thoroughly satisfied. Before he forgot, he dropped by a store and grabbed a bottle of some kind of fancy wine. He honestly didn't know anything about wine, so he just bought whatever looked nicest and hoped for the best. Little did he know, behind the store a fight was going on.

 

A few minutes later a large man cracks his knuckles and surveys the beaten bodies around him. He shakes his head and sighs, turning to a young woman next to him. "That's what- the third time this week? When will they learn to leave you alone?" The young woman merely shrugs, such incidents being commonplace for her by now.

"Really? Pity. Thought it wasn't only me." He looked up at Tora's face and saw that her pupils were dilated. "I'm fine. I'll learn to live with it. It doesn't appear to be going away any time soon." Nico said, not wishing to comment on the way her pupils appear more dilated than a regular human's.

"I suddenly got hungry..." Tora breathed while keeping her eyes locked on to him. Her senses were beginning to overload her.

 

Rikku finally left her foliage behind in a search for a shop and job. She paused only momentarily by an alley way, peering into it curiously, but she could see nothing.

"Hungry..?" Nico echoed and thought back to the speech the doctor gave him. He remembered that there could be side effects such as increased appetite and headaches. They should be minor but if there's any problems to go back and talk with them. "You shapeshift into animals ... you suddenly got hungry ... the injection brings out your meta side more ... oh no." Nico muttered fearfully, his own eyes dilating in fear as he pieced the puzzle together. He just hoped it wasn't what he thought it meant.

Tora leaned forward and before Nico could pull away, she licked his neck, tasting his skin. She never let go of his hands and just kept them tight in her grip. Her heart started beating and she tensed up.

 

"Help me, I don't want to eat anybody" she whispered into his ear, trembling with effort.

Nico stiffened when she leaned forward and licked his neck. This was just as he feared. "You don't want to..." Nico tried to think of a way to help her while she sized him up for her next meal. Anything she could turn into would most likely devour him so he had to think up of something quick. 'If ... maybe ...' Nico concentrated on the phone in his pocket as his hands appeared to be in a death-grip thanks to Tora. He put all his effort into it and as it was slipping out of the space, he changed it with his mind into a set of earplugs, when turned on, extremely loud screeching noises would come out of them. Thinking fast, he closed his eyes and inserted the plugs into her ears, hoping to incapacitate her for only a brief moment. "I'm sorry about this ..." He muttered and mentally flipped the switch to emit screeching noises into Tora's ears.

"Uh doc, I don't really know what's going on but I just wanted to know what you guys did here. I don't need a checkup." Zen said as the doctor was ushering him into a room. In truth, he hated hospitals and anything remotely related to them, especially needles though he hadn't seen one yet. Even so, he unconsciously hardened his own skin by brining his atoms closer together, also increasing his mass, which was simply his reaction to intimidating situations. "I think I should just go." He said as he opened the door to the room.

Gale smiled slightly and nodded. "Sure. Just because a restaurant isn't fancy doesn't mean it isn't good." She said, as she straightened a loose strand of hair that had fallen over her shoulder. The teen then noticed that it was a good way into the afternoon. "It's still pretty early. I thought I saw a movie playing in a nearby theatre, so do you want to get an early dinner and a show?"

@@Alex Kennedy, @,  Louise was skeptical about the doctor at first, especially since he was looking at her in a way that she found creepy. "I wouldn't, if I were you," Louise said in a casual way, at the same time as extending bones to come out of the tips of her fingers, then playing with the square finger bones. She found that the doctor seemed disgusted at her power, and backed off considerably. Mission accomplished. Louise was happy about the news that her powers would be increased; this could certainly come in handy. She itched to get a chance to try them out.

The doctor shook his head. "I can't exactly stop you, but it's your loss if you leave now. We can open so many doors for people like you. And also, I'd watch yourself if you do decide to leave. Not all of my associates are entirely willing to let a fascinating patient like yourself go, and the Institute's resources are vast. Just a friendly warning."

After the injection was delivered, the doctor led her back out into the lobby, honestly rather eager to be rid of her.
