"Big gang war what the government likes to hide they don't have full control of this place, can't blame them hard to control those with powers like us unlike other civilians, imagine not having any powers, then having to face a criminal meta with unknown abilities that would be fucking scary, this place has relative peace by a thread from what I heard and this is not that moment."

I said this normally not bothering to sound worried.

@@RunsWithSquirlz,

Victor shrugged. "It's pretty hard for me to get seriously injured even in a place like this. Especially with my powers being enhanced. Not that I don't appreciate your concern. Perhaps we should back off a little further? Even if I don't get hit, you still could, and I'd never forgive myself if you got hurt here."

@@Pripyat Pony,@,

The man shook his head. It was things like this that might him hate having to talk to people. But it wasn't really his fault if they refused to leave. "Wait then. I'm not the one to tell you. You live, you get your answers. Otherwise, I warned you."

@@Dji,@@Shadow Dancer, @,

Koenig shook his head and corrected Gale. "Not everyone for themself. Not exactly. You see, we're not alone. If criminals are going to get organized and work together, then so are we. Now watch, and wait."

In a flash of a familiar strawberry-blonde color, something new leapt into the fray. Whether man or beast, it was hard to tell in the dark, and amid the chaos of the fighting. But suddenly it seemed the good guys- if indeed that's what they were- had decided to spring into action. joining the new challenger in the middle of the fight, they seemed to kick into high gear, and before anyone could tell what was going on, the fight was over. Those who hadn't been knocked unconscious were running for their lives. And now, his work done, the man from the crater turned his gaze onto the rooftop where quite a few onlookers seemed to have gathered. He gestured to the fireball man, who ignited once again and shot off into the air, landing on the rooftop. When the fires disappeared, a familiar face was looking back at them. Nicholas Jackson, the tour guide from the day before. "I guess you're waiting for an explanation?" He said it's alright, Koenig."

The larger man nodded and began to explain, while on the ground the rest of their group was giving a similar explanation to the onlookers there. "This city is up for grabs right now. It has been pretty much since it was founded. And through all the power struggles, a handful of us try to keep the peace and minimize the damage to the rest of the city. We work together to help people how we can. I never approved of the name, but somewhere along the line we ended up being called the Heroes' Union. It's a damn foolish thing to go calling ourselves if you ask me, but I didn't have much say in it. It was up to our leader. That man down there, the one who simply refuses to die even when the earth explodes around him? His name is Allen Park, and he's the greatest hero the city has ever had, even if they don't realize it. To folks outside our little circle of do-gooders, he's known as Highlander, because of some stupid movie or something. He's a bit crazy with how far he takes this whole thing, if you ask me, but he's a hero nonetheless, so we follow him. The fight you saw today was fairly standard stuff for our fair city, unfortunately. A group called Fiercemind tried to steal a certain formula being delivered to the institute, and another group controlled by Mark Payne felt the need to punish them for rocking the boat. Not that it matters. Another one of us made sure that the formula arrived safe and sound. And actually, there is one other thing.."

Down below, Allen Park was just finishing his own explanation. "...If you think you're up to it, we're always recruiting."

I@@Alex Kennedy, I thought about it for a moment but decided it was a poor choice for one like me, i would be watched to heavily, of that I was sure. Better to be the anonymous blood guy then the famous hero, in my case anyway. "If you were going to ask if I was willing to go through your requirement I will kindly decline. I already have a job."

*Fuck, if these assholes exist I need to be even more careful with my kills, the night won't be as private as I once thought.* I thought angered at this little bump that could become a pain, what happened to the simplicity of killing in a place where not everyone had powers?

Nico ignored the recruitment question for now and focused on something that confused him. "So this Fiercemind group is trying to steal a formula, but you got it there safely. I'm just confused if there were two group fighting or three because to me, it sounds like your Heroes Union group don't work with either Max Payne's group or Fiercemind."

Gale nodded slightly thought for a few moments. "For now, I think I'll just fly solo. I'll see where the wind takes me, though." She said, not wanting to commit herself to a group to quickly. As far as she knew, they could just be another gang eating to gain the public's acceptance. The teen then hovered slightly into the air and flew into the clouds, gathering electricity from within the clouds.

@@Dji,

"Mark Payne represents the established order of the city, and not exactly in a good way. He wants to maintain balance because it currently has him on top. Fiercemind has their own goals that we don't quite understand. They're just the two biggest groups fighting for control. There are countless others as well. And we're somewhere in the middle, trying to hold off all of them."

@@Shadow Dancer,@,

He shrugged. "Fair enough. The recruitment thing hardly ever works, honestly. But if you change your mind, know that we can give you training and control over your powers that you'll never be able to gain on your own. And also... this city is a bad place to be alone. We can't always protect everybody, so if you're not with us, be careful."

I smile, "I'll keep that in mind, and one last thing, I'm aware of the dangers present my work as a blood analyst, is not the safest line of work per-say, have a good day you two" With that I left for the apartment, figuring Gale could catch up, I really did not like how he spoke the last part sounded vaguely like a threat. I just filed that away and noticed I was at the door. I took my key out unlocked the door and entered heading strait to my bed the events of tonight I just needed to sleep on.

Gake rolled her eyes as she flew. She could handle herself in a fight and decided to spend a bit more time flying, "what did he mean by that?" She thought to herself. Something about that group didn't seem right. Still, they had promised the opportunity to better improve her powers. She sighed, trying to decide. "I'll get the injection in a few hours, and simply see what I can do around the island." The teen eventually arrived at her hotel room and joined Shados within the bed.

Detru walked out the fray, bruised and bleeding, but satisfied...except for the spines stuck in her behind from a spoke throwing meta. Pain in her ass indeed. She let out a yawn, stumbling towards her apartment. A blast of white mist and she reenergized herself, giving herself enough energy to swing past the fire escape and into the bed with a crash

That has gotta be tough." Nico murmured, shrugging. "Max Payne is sort of like the president or something of New Haven, right? How did he actually get to be on top? You probably won't be able to answer this but it's good to know." Nico asked. He took out his phone and flipped through his internet pages. He landed on Google and made a duplicate of it. In the first one, he typed in 'Koenig', wondering if there was any information on them and in the second, he typed 'Allen Park'. For good measure, he made a third Google page and typed in 'Max Payne' just for the hell of it. "What kind of jobs are there if we actually choose to be recruited?" Nico asked, looking from his phone.

Rikku glared at Victor angrily before complying with his idea.

Tora watched and listened as the events folded in front of her. She watched Shadow most of the time; he had a stink about him that she didn't like. Everything about him screamed 'bad guy' and it was only confirmed by his quick dismissal of the good guys. She kept a red flag in her mind about it.

Tora strode over and stood next to Nico, crossing her arms "Now this formula thing. Is that what we got injected with?"

Koenig shrugged. "I don't know if jobs is really the right word. If you want to join us, you'll have to swear to use your powers to help the people of this city. If you do, we'll give you access to training and what little we have in the ways of equipment. We have contacts all over the city, and if something happens and we think you're the man for the job, you'll be notified. What we need you to do could be any number of things, depending on your abilities. Our operations range from combat to computer hacking, and any number of other things as the city needs. Of course, you're free to patrol the city on your own. In return, you'll have access to our base of operations in Ransen Apartments, and  the Union will do what it can to help you with whatever else you need. There aren't many of us, but we're a skilled group. And... well, you'll get to see the rest of the benefits if and when you join." He looked over at the girl asking about the formula. "I wasn't there, so I guess I can't say for sure, but I would assume so. Some kind of chemical to increase the effects of the mutant DNA present in metahumans and thereby increase their powers. No surprise Fiercemind would want that stuff."

On the ground, Victor wasn't sure what to make of the offer this Highlander guy had just made him. A hero? That wasn't exactly his thing. But then, why not? Was there any more noble cause? It certainly beat sitting in a lab all day. He turned to Rikku. "What do you think about all this?"

"That sounds like a good offer. What do you think, Tora?" Nico asked, looking at Tora as he did. If she wanted to, then he'd be up for it. "In return for patrolling and basically saving innocents, we'd get a place in Ransen Apartments and other stuff?" Nico wanted to clarify what Koenig said. He quickly puled out his phone again to check on the pages and frowned when he saw that nothing came up on Max Payne. 'Who are you Payne?' Nico thought curiously.

Nico hesitated, unsure if he should tell Koenig or not. Deciding that it was probably worth the risk, he decided to tell Koenig. "I was just looking up some stuff and when you mentioned Max Payne, I got curious and tried to find some extra information on him. This came up." Nico said, deftly closing off all the open pages on his internet browser except for Max Payne's page. or extra security, he deleted his history as well. "Here." Nico held out his phone for Koenig to see. He looked at Tora and wondered why she was so quiet. It wasn't like her.

Koenig actually chuckled a little. "Oh. I guess it would be. Although it's not like you have to look very far to get information about Mark Payne. He's the cities most influential businessman- and also it's most powerful crimelord. He doesn't like people digging in his affairs, for obvious reasons. Nobody seems to know if he's a meta, or what abilities he might have, but we do know that he's a genius, and he's just as skilled at personal combat as he is at ordering others to do his dirty work. You've probably heard of Payne Enterprises, at least in passing. That's his organization. He's been here since founding, and before that... nobody knows. But it's safe to say he's very dangerous. If you join up with us, you'll be opposing him often, and he doesn't take kindly to that."

@, @@Alex Kennedy, Louise shrugged, turning back to face Zen. "You're probably right," she said in reply. "Since this closemouth hasn't the common sense to realise that telling us what's going on would prevent us going to see, guess we're gonna have to find out, ourselves."

Louise wasn't worried about getting hurt; she had long found out from exercising her power that her control over her skeleton came with a super healing factor. Well, it made sense, really; otherwise, what would be the point of being able to manipulate her bones if she wasn't healing as she did so?
