How can we tell if people are being rude on skype?

I have my old so called friends that I still associate with. Many of them have legitimate issues and I see them when they're free. But then I have friends that say they're doing college work all day long, when I know it's easy work and doesn't take a full day. Or they're just playing Dark Souls or Battlefield 4 all day long and they leave these replies on skype.

"ah"

"cool"

just quick replies after 5 minutes of being idle in the conversation. I can't stand rudeness. If they don't want to talk, please just be on DND or tell me to stop texting you. Has anyone else ever had some awkward or just bad text conversations?

I know the feeling. I hate it when that happens, and I've even said "If you don't want to talk, just say 'I don't want to talk today'." -_-

I actually know them IRL and I am tired of them just allowing me to start conversations. If I am the one who only starts the conversations, then something isn't right.

I don't mind if I start the conversations, but if I have to do it every time, I get kinda annoyed.

Do they seriously think we're gonna be offended if they say "Sorry, I can't talk today." I'd be fine, because I'd understand. :/

I would be way more upset if someone told me to stop texting them than if they just stopped replying  :(

College work that is easy for you could be hard for them.

And it's not very polite to demand they stop doing what they're doing just to skype.

Well, it does happen on the forums (not MLP forums). (not on Skype, though).

Some people I know PM me just because they want to chat, even though I'd prefer if they just left me alone.

In those situations, I feel I would offend them if I told them they were bothering me. In that case, I usually just reply with "ah", "cool", "ok" plus the usual smileys.

They usually stop talking after a while.

I still feel bad though, but I don't really know how to react in those situations.

Sounds like there either shit friends or they just lack social skills.

Either way you should ignore them and get better friends.

I think it's weird where people who you haven't even spoken to on forums just decide to PM you as if they know you.

It's like being sent an email from an address you don't recognise just saying

'What's up bro?'

I'm like wtf who are you?

I did say "some people I know" :)

Those are the people I talk to on a regular basis on the forums and they want to "extend" the conversation via PM.

Just showing another side of the coin my friend. A side I see sometimes.

Story of my life!!! I seriously prefer to be told: 'I hate the hell out of you and I don't want to talk to you' than being told things like 'cool, awesome, nice, ah, eh, ih, oh, uh, etc'. Because the second one feels like they're ignoring me, and, in fact, they most likely are!

But I guess everyone is different. Reading some of the replies, I see some people prefer one way, some prefer the other. What I do is telling him/her/them in a proper way how I feel and I estate that I want that person to tell me the truth. If he/she is busy then he/she could tell me and we could stop talking for a while; if don't want to talk, then he/she should just say it! May be I'll feel ofended, may be I won't, but I prefer to be told the truth. At least I feel that way. :)

You do realize I was a second away from sending you a PM you with a 'What's up bro?' subject line. :P

Stalled conversations occur naturally at times. Plus you never know what is happening on the other end and the person could just not want to be rude.

i think this works like never think they are being mean whey then could just be being lazy or busy or just not good at typing

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Marvelous, simply... marvelous! I will try this one for a time and I'll see how it goes for me :D Thank you for sharing!
