Pegasi bench 1000 pounds* with their wings...?

Wow, if i was a pony I'd avoid wing slaps at all costs. Even if i was a durable, squeezable, malleable cartoon thing.

It is a cartoon; but these are some fun things to ponder.

Id be more worried if the pony wing slapped a human. Im pretty sure the human would not come out unscathed.

Considering how a Mute Swan's wing can break human bone, I'm betting what a pegasus pony would consider a slap would probably snap the human's bone wherever it hits.

Random guy: Hey fluttershy! High five!

Flutters: *hits hand with wing*

*CRACKLE!!!*

Random guy: *squeals in pain at shattered arm and passes out*

Flutters: Oh... my

Yeah it kind scary how strong they are.

3. I'm not saying she super charged the rock, I'm saying she's strong enough to cause a large explosion through pure strength alone.

5. She can cause a nuclear explosion from pure strength, not using fusion energy of some sort.

That's not how it works. Even if Superman punched something, he wouldn't make a nuclear explosion. All Maud did was toss the rock and when it fell, it made a big boom. There's literally no way to justify that unless you are going to tell me that the rock was magical and makes explosions when it falls. Because by that time, it was just gravity pulling it down

Why not simply accept it as a showcase of her projecting so much strength into the throw that's causing the nuclear explosion from the moment the rock impacts. I'm not saying she gives nuclear energy to the rock, but I'm saying that the show is showing that she threw the rock so hard with such ferocious strength that she caused a nuclear explosion sized explosion the moment it the ground. The explosion itself is not nuclear, but it's more like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father_of_All_Bombs

It's not nuclear but it's able to generate a large enough explosion to be mistaken as a nuclear explosion because o f the amount of force it generated. That's pretty much what I'm saying about Maud's strength in this case.

@@Nuke87654,

The problem is that the rock was already falling due to gravity, it was no longer her strength applying to the rock. It's just a gag, like Pinkie Pie being able to randomly stop herself from falling

No because Rainbow Dash did something similar but didn't generate a similar result. The animators intention was clear, they wanted to showcase of how much stronger Maud Pie is over Rainbow Dash in a rock throwing contest regardless of what science says.

@@Nuke87654,

It was a joke, there's nothing else to say. It's like Hercule dodging Boo's punches or Spider-Man being hurt by a punch from Mary Jane

It's also a feat showing off Maud Pie's strength as the writers and animators clearly wanted to indicate how much stronger she is and thus can be used as a valid feat. That's what having higher feats showing how bs those scenes were are for, but considering how Rainbow Dash caused a nuclear explosion through pure speed and Twilight trading nuke beams with Tirek, it's not far fetched for Maud Pie to do it as they have used it before to indicate of just how powerful it was.

While us fans love to overanalyze and try to pin down the exact strength and lifting abilities of ponies, I suspect there is no specific guideline the writers follow in MLP the way they do for, say, DC and Marvel comic characters.  But watching just a few episodes of MLP quickly establishes that the average pony can lift several times his or her own bodyweight with ease.  Then like anything else some ponies are stronger than others.  Do we ever see Snowflake actually USE his muscles for anything??

Oh, Maud Pie is stronger than she looks, but that doesn't mean that she can make a rock explode. If she could, then there'd be no point in Twilight fighting Tirek, Maud is just as powerful.

Oh, and as for RD's "nuke", she had to severely weaken the structure of the barn first and even then, the aoe was pitiful.

As usual, discrepancies occur because the writers simply do not know how to work with what they're using. You don't tend to keep track of character depth in DBZ, and you don't tend to keep track of power levels in MLP. More work for me.
The first thing to decide is what we're looking at; lifting strength is usually not equal to striking strength in fiction. Since we're talking about the former, i's best to just measure by what they've done. Most ponies do seem to be just shy of 1,000 pounds, going by the the pegasus who bench lifted that weight, and the fact that Rainbow Dash was unable to lift that rock off of her wings in May the Best Pet Win means it can't be much higher. That's for an athletic pony, mind you; normal ponies would be a bit weaker.

@,

I can live with that, more so if they're the size of actual horses, then it makes sense

I don't normally overthink things like this, so I'll just go with the two main trump cards of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic:

Cartoon logic and Equestrian magic

As usual, discrepancies occur because the writers simply do not know how to work with what they're using. You don't tend to keep track of character depth in DBZ, and you don't tend to keep track of power levels in MLP. More work for me.

That's true. If you compared ponies with almost any other sci-fi/fantasy/anime character, the pony will almost always come off as ridiculously powerful for those reasons.

Magic, they don't need to go in a strength contest to beat her, and Tirek is plenty strong, perhaps even stronger considering he busted through a mountain and uplifted the earth underneath him through pure physical strength.

She still had AJ and Twilight ducking for cover to avoid the debris despite being some distance away and she still caused a large explosion from it.

Via your logic, Tirek should have been making mountains explode when he rammed into them, if Maud can do it, so can he

She still had AJ and Twilight ducking for cover to avoid the debris despite being some distance away and she still caused a large explosion from it.

That was because of the fact that rubble was falling and as we saw, gave Twilight a knock on the head. Gas explosions are big too, but they are weak

The issue here is that it says 1000. A thousand what. That can be anything. It can be a thousand nanograms (.000 000 001 kilograms) to 1000 teragrams (1 000 000 000 000 kilograms). Because wings are delicate in structure I would safely assume 1000 dekagrams (10 kilograms). That or its just cartoon logic. :P

(The actually answer is she lifted a 1000 units)

Considering he has Discord's powers and all the ponies powers and how the top tiers in MLP verse work, it's not beyond his capabilities, heck he's trading nuke beams with Twilight so he's certainly capable of unleashing those kinds of explosions.

I said they were avoiding debris. Since when is explosions capable of obliterating buildings, heavily damaging them, and easily killing humans are considered weak?

But if he's stronger than Maud, then his ram into the mountain should have made an explosion. Sorry, but you can't just say

"Oh, Maud can make explosions because she's strong"

Gas explosions are pretty weak as far as explosions go. They're very firey and look good, but the concussive force is minimal compared to say, a missile
