It's a funny thing, though. I would think that on a wired gigabit connection, I would be getting the same 30MB/s transfer rate that I get over USB 2.0. I mean, I do have a gigabit router, a CAT6 cable, and a gigabit ethernet port on my mobo. I'm still looking into it, but I'm still a little confused to say the least.

 I don't know, haven't tried any yet.

My router does a million things and all I want it to do is route and be wireless.

I don't really ask for much, I guess.

Found this where someone asked the same question.

Also, I'm looking for a mouse to replace my old G9x and came across this. Thought I'd post it in case anyone else was interested.

Best Buy (hopefully online) will have a Logitech G502 for $79.99 with a $50 Steam gift card. Just in time for holiday sales :squee:

I just have this thing because I couldn't find any wireless gaming mice in my budget:

Why a wireless mouse, Shinobi?

Because I've been using one for years and gotten hooked on having that one less wire to deal with and the more free range of movement not having it tethered to a wire allows.

That's the one I have at work. It's really comfy to use and hasn't skipped a beat. Lasts forever on a single AA to boot.

Mine only complaint is that it sometimes feels a little slow in certain games and doesn't feel as smooth as some I've used. Those two side buttons are good for gaming though(such as mapping them to grenade and knife in COD).

Other than that it's pretty nice.

Alright, that actually makes sense. I may consider getting a wireless headset myself someday considering how worn my fatality headset's wire is.

Hah... the extent of my experience with that mouse is intense sessions of Office, so I can't comment too much on its gaming ability. Still, not too bad for a $30 wireless mouse.

Did I mention it was super comfy? Ambidextrous mice. Love 'em.

After a while of looking for my next PC build, I think I have built the ultimate build. But I need some perspective on it.
It's a very small, yet very powerful build. More or less the best you can get with just one GPU.

My plan is to not overclock the CPU so it's life will be extended. Then down the line, when the Playstation 5 comes out, I'll buy a new graphics card, and overclock my CPU to match.
The PC should rise from the ashes and beat yet another generation of the consoles, efficiently making it a long-term budget build

CPU: i5-4690k

GPU: MSI gtx 970
MoBo: MSI z97I
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LP 2x4 1600 cl9

Case: Corsair Obsidian 250D
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
PSU: Cooler Master V550S gold+
CD-rom: don't know if I'm even going to bother

Extra: Corsair Hydro H100i

It's what Luna would use

I bought a wireless headset a few years ago, because I was tired of the wires breaking.

Guess what? This time around, the connector piece to the earmuff broke instead.

Are you sure that power supply is sufficient?

The 4690K runs cool even when overclocked, a decent air cooler should be more than sufficient. I'd go with that and take some of the savings to put towards an SSD. Or whatever else you might want to buy.

A quality 500W is enough for a 970 and that setup, that V550S looks pretty new, but the one review I found seems to rate it highly. You can't go wrong with a quality unit from SeaSonic, XFX, or Corsair.

Yeah, but 50 watts isn't much headroom. What really matters isn't the wattage, but the amount of volts that the PSU can spit out on each rail. I can't find the requirements for the 970, so I can't say for sure.

It's something to consider, at least.

I have read articles and watched videos about what power supply is actually needed for builds, it turns out most systems with one GPU rarely exceeds 300. Unless it's a very power hungry card. Adding inn a overclock it still shouldn't hit much over 400. Which I will say is well withing reason. This build is too small for a second card, and that would be the only way to break the 550W limit as far as my understanding goes

Yeah I know it is a great chip, so I could wait with buying a cooler until I actually am going to do the overclock. However, I don't think I could fit a very big air cooler in the case. I could take a search around if anyone could get a 212 in there or something similar.

I did consider getting an SSD as I would love the extra snappiness of my system.

The reason I'm a little put of by it, is because a 512 GB is very expensive, and getting 128 SSD + 1 TB HDD would mean I have to micromanage my most played games back and forth.

NVIDIA specs a minimum total system power requirement of 500W for the 970, but they'll spec that conservatively based on the fact that most people are probably going to be using less than great PSUs (OEM systems, etc), so a good 500W unit will be plenty. I used my 670 with a good Antec 500 unit for a while.

Granted, a 600-700Wish unit might be worth your dollars if you plan on going SLI at some point. :)

A 256 GB could probably be had for less than $100 come BF, and as far as micromanagement goes, it's not so bad. I usually play a few games at once and 256 is more than enough even for those ridiculous 50 gig titles. For some reason TF2 doesn't load much faster off an SSD in my experience so I just keep those on the hard drive.

Yeah it's those damn 50GB games which eats up my storage

I guess it's for the greater good of graphics though, so can't complain too much.

The 256 aren't that expensive indeed, but will they keep sinking in price, or are they stabilizing at the current prices?

Could maybe be included in future upgrades ;)

I've seen a few models dip as low as $70 for a 240 GB if you don't care about brand or controller, but the best deal going right now is probably the MX100 at around $100. Can't say if they'll dip much lower but BF/CM is just around the corner so who knows...

Hope they don't start climbing like with RAM pricing. :eww:

I know someone that has a OC'd i7 and higher-end GPU with a freakin' 1GHz OC on it on a 500W(the same PSU I have, in fact)

Are you talking about Kingpin, by any chance?

No, it's someone from the Brony group I frequent on Facebook. It's a middle-eastern dude from Scottland. Nice guy.

Oh, I see. The GTX 970 and 980 honestly seem like pretty great overclockers.

His is a Raedon card, I don't remember which(I think it's one of the upper-end HD series cards)

I'm afraid to push my 750ti because I can find no data on what's "stable" on it.
